Aston Villa played their second pre-season friendly in their German tour. Yesterday they played against Paderborn, with Aston Villa only managing another 1-1 draw. Rick ten Voorde scored for the hosts and it was Weimann who managed to level off for Aston Villa. The stand out player of the game was undoubtably Weimann who was Villa’s greatest threat. Weimann was very quick and had a few chances to score goals. Carruthers provided the assist and he also didn’t play too badly, Luna impressed yet again as left-back. Webb played for the injured Okore.
First Half: Steer, Vlaar, Clark, Bacuna, Helenius, Westwood, Delph, Webb, Bowery, Bennett, Carruthers.
Second Half: Guzan, Lowton, Baker, El Ahmadi, Luna, Sylla, Bowery [Burke], Weimann, Herd, Gardner, Carruthers.
Aston Villa do have a few injuries in Germany, Okore is out with a thigh injury. Albrighton, Tonev and Agbonlahor have also suffered knocks and weren’t risked for the friendly. Aston Villa still have one more game to play in Germany, this will be played on Sunday.
It is clear from the 3 games we have played and the disaster that was the last 30 games of last season, our defence is not good enough. We are still spineless! We need Cheikhou Kouyaté! I can accept the loss of Benteke but will not tolerate the powder puff, softer than jelly, too easy to brush aside with no man marking strategy that is our defence
Well said the scout. I know these games are meaningless but yet again we concedes last min goal. Translate that to what happened last season whence conceded loads of. Goals in the last ten mins. This year we won’t have bentekes goals to bail us out and defence is not good enough to keep regular or any clean sheets. I’m seriously worried
I’m inclined to agree with you but I’d like to see how the preferred 11 work together, hopefully with a couple of new players starting in defence. Window not yet shut so we’ll see if anyone else comes in.
