Player updates

We have some decent news to talk about, at last.

First is a story by the Daily Mail, that suggests Remi Garde has totally had it with Charles N’Zogbia and the player might be on his way to AEK Athens if he has the good grace to accept a pay-off to leave.

The figures involving the player (if true and I suspect they’re not far off) are just shocking. Here’s what the article says;

“He has come to symbolise the huge waste at Villa, with his cost to the club in wages and transfer fee since 2011 currently standing at £24.7million. That equates to £265,591 per each of his 93 appearances in all competitions, or £4.94million per each of his five goals.”

It’s not the goal tally I have a problem with, although I always expected him to chip in with a few (but which Villa midfielder has done that in the last few years?).
It’s the cost per game that sticks in the craw and for a club at our level, it’s just eye-wateringly expensive, isn’t it?
What a shame, as I really thought he’d be a great signing for us when we got him.
The article goes on to mention that Garde is the third manager to not like his relaxed attitude to the game.
Reading between the lines, it seems the opinion is that the man is a total stroker, full stop.
Good riddance if he leaves, unfortunately.

Then there’s news that might please many of you, in that Joleon Lescott might be off to the retirement home that is LA Galaxy;

http://www.lagconfidential.com/2016/1/7/10734546/la-galaxy-interested-in-de-jong-close-to-signing-lescott

That doesn’t quite make sense to me, seeing as he’s only just arrived at the Villa, but I suppose it’s all about the money and let’s face it, the Californian climate or a British winter?
That’s a no-brainer and I could possibly see it happening, especially if you do the MLS vs Championship debate.
No major loss, in my opinion, although it’s always nice to have a Villa supporter playing for the club (as long as he’s performing).

Next, there’s Traore.
It’s been confirmed he’s broken a toe and will be out for around ten weeks.
Another shame, just like Amavi and indicative of a team that’s having no luck whatsoever.
Why some are calling him “another crock” is beyond me.
A broken toe is not a common occurrence and is one that’s more likely to be found in a really pacy player, due to the heavy impacts when he gets clattered.
It’s certainly not enough to call him injury prone, in my opinion.

Indeed “Don’t let it get you down, come back strong and keep doing what you were doing in lighting up an incredibly poor season for us fans” would be my message to the lad.

Last of all, after Remi Garde got a rebuke from Chelsea for talking about Loic Remy, it now seems the manager has been talking about Debuchy from Arsenal;

http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/aston-villa-fc/2016/01/07/remi-garde-mathieu-debuchy-on-radar-after-adama-traore-injury/

I have to wonder what this is all about.
The unwritten law is that you don’t talk about players that belong to other football clubs, full stop.
Yes, I know certain other clubs/managers do it, but they’re usually in a position of massive strength, at a level where any dirty trick is deemed ok.
I like to think we don’t play those games, because our standards have traditionally been higher than that.
I’d ask that Garde keeps his mouth shut until any deal has been done, personally.

In the same article Garde confirms that Illori has gone back to Liverpool.
Another waste of money, but what’s new?

    We’ll probably see more going out the door than coming through it if any,I agree it’s a load of PR BOLLOX with the usual we looked at a number of players but nothing unfortunately materialized bullSHITE.we’re purely now gearing up for championship footy plain & simple couldn’t give a FUCK who we do or don’t get.

      Well said Giddy, I wasn’t going to comment because I’m of the same school of thought as yourself – Couldn’t give a f**k who we do or don’t get and as you say – a right load of old b*****x, it’s just smoke and mirrors.
      Garde the yes man will go and get a couple of loan players at best and but the main agenda will be to ship out anyone that earns the going rate keeping with the philosophy of the club over the pat 4/5 years.
      Lerner – Fox – Almstadt – Riley & just for good measure Garde can all go f**k themselves, you won’t see me anywhere near VP till the lot of them are gone.

        MATE haven’t been to VP since the MON days,call me an armchair supporter couldn’t give a FUCK.like FUCK would I pay good money to watch SHITE plus line that wankers pocket it’s a sad state of affairs as for many years followed the team home & away depending on work commitments.there is worse to come that’s for sure & I’m sure I won’t be the only one sitting comfortably in my armchair,the only way to hurt that yank is his pocket I hope I’m contributing to that.

          Fair play to you Giddy.
          I’ve had season tickets on and off down the years the last one being for the 2013/14 season but I just can’t hack it any more, it’s too painful. You can hear the old ground groaning as the club falls into what seems to be a terminal decline and I can’t stand being there to watch it’s slow and painful demise.
          So that’s me done with it until Lerner and his merry band of incompetent cronies (including Garde) exit stage left from VP.

      No wonder Garde says there’s a long standing problem. Probably had a clause in the loan agreement saying we had to get him fit but he couldn’t actually play!

    Fans should boycott matches – won’t make massive difference in Prem due to TV revenue but come Championship gate revenue will be one of the main revenue streams even with parachute payments. This will be the time for fans to air their voices and to have an influence.

    Lack of activity is worrying me. Thought we’d go down kicking and screaming with flailing arms and legs. At this rate we’ll be down by March.

    Surely at the very least there’s a very slim chance we could rock the boat, it’s been a topsy turvy season all round.

    Can we not pull another Darren Bent 24m purchase out of the hat? Wishful thinking I know.

    Its pretty incredible how many awful players we have managed to buy for ridiculous amounts of money over the last 5 or 6 years. Every club buys the odd dud, but Villa surpass any other club by a mile!

    Every transfer window it’s the same and very one of our managers says the same thing yet we still can’t shift the dead wood, year in, year out. Why will this one be any different? CNZ has shown no interest in moving and why would he? £65k a week and he’s not even expected to give his Saturdays up. We don’t have a single player that would be wanted by another prem club – even the ones that are nearly as bad as us so I can almost guarantee that they’ll still be villa players in February. And no championship or league one club can afford them. As for arsenal players arriving at VP, don’t make me laugh. At best you might get one on loan who couldn’t give a tuppence and will put in half a shift and then go back to the parent club. Is there any chance of anyone of the villa park big wigs coming out and saying anything about our embarrassing predicament?
