Nowt happening, so a bit of a round-up

While I love the FA cup, the fact that we’re not involved in it really bugs me, especially when the whole Premier league is called off, meaning we don’t get a game at all, even if the next prospective opponents are free to play too. Why games aren’t scheduled and then called off if one of the opponents are still involved in the cup, I don’t know.
Perhaps someone can explain that to me.

Whatever, it’s a boring weekend, where the only news I’ve read of any major interest is that Bowery has gone on loan to Doncaster Rovers.
Is that a hint that he might be on his way out? I’d say yes.
Is it a major loss? I don’t really think so.
I think he cost us £500,000, so while that’s peanuts in the scheme of things, it does beg the question “why did we sign him, when we have our own kids at a similar level?”.
Lambert genius at signing unknowns? I’ll let you debate that one.

Perhaps more relevant is that Alan Pardew simply has to win against the Villa or he faces the bullet.
I didn’t realise that Newcastle have lost the last five games at home!
What price that we end that run and he has a stay of execution?
We’re good at breaking records, after all, albeit in the wrong way lately;

http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/460016/EXCLUSIVE-Alan-Pardew-has-one-match-to-save-his-Newcastle-job

I also didn’t realise that he’s the Prem’s second longest serving manager(!), which reminds me of Fulham’s sacking of Meulensteen. What a joke after the performances against Pool and Man Utd.
For what it’s worth, I read somewhere this morning that Meulensteen actually has a better record in some way, than Lambert in the last few games. Work that one out.

The biggest story of the week though for me, was the fact that Aston Villa have come out and actually highlighted the fact that we want to be at the forefront when it comes to safe standing.
Ok, we’ve indicated similar before, but this was handled much better, in that it made for more prominent newsprint. Well done Mr Preece (media officer??).

My only criticism is that in my opinion, it’s a bit of a fudge, in that it would involve seats that can be altered so you can stand.
I’d much prefer simple standing and believe that now PC Plod has got his act together, it’s achievable.
Still, it’s better than being forced to sit.
Or not, if you’re an away fan.

Then, even closer to home, there’s an article written by a chap who was a Villa steward in the 80’s.
I suspect Bill Pearson, who was a senior steward (correct me if I’m wrong Bill) might be able to comment on that.

http://www.myoldmansaid.com/aston-villa-steward-life-eighties/

There’s probably more stuff to talk about, in which case bring it up in the discussion.
I’m back to working seven days a week, so have probably missed stuff.
I’m sure you’ll inform me, if so.

yep, Newcastle have been absolutely awful and the loss of cabaye has affected the team very badly. they’ve won one in 8 and scored only 3 goals in that time, they haven’t scored for 4 straight games now. unfortunately the break means they will see the return of remy, debuchey, goufran and coloccinin who have been out with injuries and suspensions. unfortunately we could have really done with this game this weekend :/
on an off topic thing, the more I see of Cardiff under OGS the more I think we may have dodged a bullet there. I for one was dispointed he turned us down and im surprised he took a job with that moron Vincent tan at Cardiff of all places. he seems to be looking more out of his depth every game to me and the tide is dragging him further out.

Seems weird with OGS that he made a few signings, including 3 Norwegians which was to be expected, and rarely plays them.

Giving him an entire year including pre-season could have helped and I for one did want him. But he’s really been poor. Could be good for Cardiff in the Championship to learn for them.

when you look at it he could’ve come to villa pre season under no pressure(or very little)instead he’s chosen to come into a struggling Cardiff half way through the season working for that nut job ego maniac Tan with a squad of players who no doubt most were probably disappointed to loose McKay and a big relegation battle on his hands. reckon he was mad to take the job in the 1st place.

Claimed he thought he was a bit more mature and ready for a big move. I agree though, he’d have the same pressure Lambert had, keep Villa up, and as long as he changed Villa for the better through a youth revolution + a new style like last season.

what a shite weekend without a match to cheer on, what’s it coming to having to watch other clubs in cup matches and us knowing the team on holiday in Portugal working their socks off, the way football going at Villa park we will end up like them Bluenoses celebrating corner kicks running round the ground.I’m right pissed off football when its not my team, look at Sunderland in the quarter finals and still in the other cup, and having said that I’d have the FA take a look at Lambert of Southampton betting antics he must have had a bet on Sunderland to win. roll on next week end so I can start moaning again, 🙂

Sorry Badger just read that article about stewarding at Villa park, yes I was involved and remembers it well on the local games, he’s quite right in saying stewards then did a job, where he’s talking about was when at that Derby game the away fans had gained entrance into that stand and was causing mayhem to Villa fans, I made the stewards go through rows and removed them from the seats, on the Blues game there was a riot about to start between Holte enders and the now newly Doug Ellis stand, again fans had gained entrance to that part of the ground. I had to remind all the fans that newly CCTV cameras was recording them all and would be arrested. Would I like none seating area’s hard to say seating controls crowd’s, standing? if your a six footer no problems, five footers problem, also kids are in danger in this day and age. Still that’s my opinion only.

People that want to sit though still can. And it will be tiered standing so each level is higher so if a short arse like me I Shoukd be able to see over a six footer if not il bring a box to stand on lol

I wonder if BT intervened with Owen this week as on the last game v Arsenal he was wanking his lil gloves off…!!! Meant to be impartial Michael!!!

As for the Fulham sacking…..I know we have our problems with Lerner but I felt a sense of pride with Villa when I heard Maulensteen had been removed. These fancy big time charlies coming in expecting the world are ruining clubs. Just look at Blackburn!!! While our board and co are far from perfect, I’d hate this sort of takeover to happen to us!!

Helenius missed his comment was he being bias in anyway? I didn’t think Andy and his co presenter should have been dismissed, and that goes for presenters set up by internal staff in broadcasting.

Just wanted to make a post about the games which involve the £1 entrance for children. This season those games have so far been Newcastle, Swansea and West Ham with the next and last one for this season to be against Southampton.

Firstly i want to say i think it is fantastic the club do this and I take my son to these games, its a great way to engae with the next generation of potential fans.

However saying that I have noticed that us fans are quiet at these games against West Ham we did not sing one song, the players need us at all of our home matches whichever fence we sit on we would all agree that the fans need to be the extra man.

Not sure what we can do about it but it is something i have noticed at these games, its a great idea but it should not impact on the great atmosphere that we usually generate at VP

Morgan no songs at those games? Perhaps with more kids including fans’ own kids, songs including “S*** on the City” and “..don’t talk B******* you’re a C***!” were ruled out by the missus. Which brings me to the paucity of good and clean songs associated with Villa now. I can remember “The bells are ringing for the Claret & Blue” “A little piece of Heaven fell out the sky one day” being terrace anthems but they seem to have faded away.

The new generation don’t seem to update the songs – I mean “Spinksy and Birchy and Alan MacNally” are names being chanted by fans who never saw them kick a ball.

    What memories do you have?
