New goalie signed? It seems so, but I’m underwhelmed.

According to the Birmingham Mail and other sites, the signing of Pierluigi Gollini from Verona is another one in the bag, with quotes from the player himself;

“I am very happy for this opportunity”, Gollini said to Sky Italia. “I am a little sorry to leave Italy, but it was a very important opportunity.

“I am going to a club with a very glorious stadium with 40,000 seats. I want to thank Verona for these two years.”

Read a big pay rise, in other words.

Hmm, so we’re talking about a £4.1 mill transfer here, which is serious money, given the level we’re at.
Are we really expecting that a 21 year old goalkeeper is going to be our new number one?

I have to say, I don’t quite understand this one at all, as it’s a lot of money for a back-up, given we have Guzan and Bunn still on the books.

Surprised no one has mentioned that Tshibola has signed today. Highly rated but unproven so a lot of money in the circumstances albeit it’s been reported other clubs where interested. Seems his relationship with Clark at Reading was a big factor.

Sounds like one for the future another one that will use us as a stepping stone Im afraid like the new keeper. Sounds like a young YA YA Toure lets hope the club remember his birthday 🙂

Just read it Hitch, good news that. Here’s some info, Aaron Tshibola
Aaron Tshibola still had three years to run on the contract he signed at Reading in July 2015
Aston Villa have signed young Reading midfielder Aaron Tshibola on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old Royals youth product played 17 times for the club since his Football League debut in a 4-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest in August 2014.

He made 23 league appearances in a half-season loan with League Two side Hartlepool United in 2014-15.

Tshibola will be reunited with former Royals boss Steve Clarke, who is now Villa’s assistant manager.

Villa manager Roberto di Matteo told the club website: “He’s a highly- rated and well respected young player who will provide us with plenty of energy, courage and determination in the middle of the park.

“I am confident he will be a tremendous addition to our squad for the very important new season – and beyond.”

A keeper, a centre half and a central midfielder so far.
Looks like Roberto is replacing last year’s spineless cowards with a backbone.
Hope the car boot sale starts soon.

Agree totally. Half the job done is new players to replace the deadwood but showing the dross the door is the requirement.

Easier said than done if they are contracted they don’t have to go so best thing to do is pay them off but very expensive

It’s being reported that RDM has reiterated the need to ‘trim the squad’ this summer but has bee concentrating on strengthening the spine of the team and training. It appears we can expect departures over the next few weeks – let’s hope he removes the right ones!

The irony is after years of managers complaining the squad was too small, it’s now too big but full of wasters, have beens and under performers!

Seems so Bill. Like you I’m keen to see how we play but concerned at the same time. After five years of disappointment it’s hard not to have nagging doubts and the Championship has proved a graveyard for some of England’s famous old clubs.

Muzz, Bill – I believe he was a director of Reading on the same Board as Samuelson and works with him in his consultancy otherwise I know nothing about what skills he brings but he’s clearly been approved by the FL.

He appears to have worked alongside Samuelson at Reading in the past – from what I’ve been able to find, he seems to be involved in the same Swiss-based ‘financial management’ firm as Samuelson.

Nath wasn’t it undisclosed at circa €9m which is around £7m? I can’t believe the release clause would be less than what was paid but then again……

i cant remember to be honest, memory like a gold fish. but i just red another saying sherwood buy 7.5 million

doesn’t sound good, granted its only a minor loss. but its still a loss on a player that didn’t do too bad. we have got to stop putting in clauses that under valuate our players.

They’re not the same type of player, and defensively he’d be a huge loss that new midfielder can’t come close to replacing.
