Aston Villa sign former Norwich keeper Mark Bunn on a free transfer, the 30 year old has signed a two-year contract with Aston Villa. This comes after Shay Given is set to join Stoke City on a free transfer after Stoke City hijacked Middlesbrough offer for the 39 year old keeper.
Bunn made 31 appearances for Norwich since arriving at the club in 2012 and will most likely be an understudy to Brad Guzan who may end up keeping his starting spot at Aston Villa.
“Aston Villa is a huge football club and this was too good an opportunity to miss out on.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know my new team-mates over in Portugal at our pre-season training camp and I can’t wait to get started.
“I’m delighted to find myself working with Tony Parks again, as he was the goalkeeping coach at Norwich City so he knows me really well.” – Mark Bunn
Going by Bunn’s quotes, it seems as though Bunn was brought after recommendation of our new goal keeper coach Tony Parks. This could also be a quick reaction by Aston Villa as they had zero first team keepers traveling to Portugal on Villa’s pre-season tour.
Bunn is a good and a cheap solution, I don’t think he will be our number 1 keeper but he will be a decent second keeper who will most likely start and play in Aston Villa’s League Cup and FA Cup games.
Everyone should be extremely excited at this peace of business. So far 2 players signed and not a penny spent. Shaun Wright Phillips is also available on a free, would be a much cheaper alternative to Townsend.
On a serious note it’s a typical Villa signing. What do we really expect?
Vivian Richards? 🙂
Ha ha ha ha ha….good one 😉
Good signing given our CURRENT financial situation. Its great to ‘have one in the oven’ ….the rebirth of Villa?
Lets hope he doesn’t find himself in some STICKY situations eh? Although hopefully he can RISE to the occasion.
Ha ha…..will we keep the ‘Belgian Bunn’? Is Delia buying us? 🙂 Alistair Cook or Charlie Cook…..Lord ‘Kitchen..er’ He’ll have his ‘work..top’ cut out with our defence 🙂
Belgium Bunn will only leave if another club pay the DOUGH that we want.
Lol…we’ve done this one to death now…I’m off to earn a CRUST 🙂
lol Jesus Christ lads so many bunns intended
No wonder we have seen such poor seasons randy Lerner has mistaken the villa for a bakery!!!
We now have a Baker and a Bunn.
I expect the next signings to be a Cook or maybe even a Gregg!
I think next season we will see our full potential.
And loads of donuts 🙂
All we need now is a butcher and a candle-stick maker…
lol….Pat Butcher? On a free from West Ham 🙂
I’d love to have a go on Pat Butcher and get caught by Frank! 🙂
lol – we can always go for Timothy Chandler, an American RB, and off to the fair we go!
Nice one Tom and Colonius 🙂
He maybe Better Than Our Current keeper
It’s the great villa bake off!!!!
These jokes arn’t Bunny! 🙂
Wow! Underwhelmed! Does this mean Guzan will still be number one? Oh dear!
I would think so Bency.
I’m ok with that, fwiw, as I’ve said a couple of times the goalie isn’t our biggest problem compared to the defence overall, imo.
Everything is going so well in this transfer window. Cant wait for the new season. Really looking forward to seeing:
1. An injury prone RB/CB who hasnt played in the PL for the last 2 years and who is a replacement for an injury orone CB who hardly played to a decent standard in the PL for the last 2 years…..someone please explain the logic there!
2. A Senegalese MF with zero PL experience, who cant speak English and is really struggling to get a work permit and is possibly the replacement for an experienced England midfielder and our club captain…..someone please explain the logic there!
3. A 2nd choice goalkeeper in last seasons Championship with little PL experience to replace a proven, USA International keeper with a wealth of PL experience (whether you rate him or not), he’s still miles ahead of Bunn IMO. Someone explain the logic in that!
I would prefer the club to come out and say we are spending very little again rather than come up with the same old BS names such as Praet and Begovic. We all know that they are never going to happy.
Come clean Randy….your as tightarse as ever. Stop taking the piss!
I’m firmly in the oohah camp from now on until the club show some kind of ambition, and above all honesty!
I suspect Bunn isn’t a replacement for Guzan.
The club doesn’t come up with the media rumours, you should at your age already know this.
1. Richards is still quite highly rated and well wanted by Sherwood.
2. So you want Lerner to spend money, he spends money and you cry that it’s not the kind of player you want, and go on making things up about Delph leaving. (before bringing up he’s not in Portugal with the team, he’s expecting his 2nd child at any moment.)
3. If you had a clue, you’d realize Bunn is replacing Given, not Guzan, who is moving to Stoke. Bunn is in fact 2nd choice, at best and was in fact, suggested by our goal keeping coach to Sherwood as a back up goal keeper.
I realize you like being negative for no reason and that seems to be the cool thing to do on here, but logic goes against just about everything you’ve said.
Delph isn’t very big considering he’s expecting his 2nd baby. Are you sure he’s pregnant Andrew?
B6….. lol….back to ‘bunns in oven again’ 🙂
ICING it coming Langford. The birth of Delphs baby will certainly put the CHERRY on top of the BUNN. It certainly looks like the TEMPERATURE is RISING in here with Andrews latest revelation that Delph is pregnant.
Oh B6, you and your wits. But yeah, Delph’s WIFE is expecting. Sorry for not clarifying. 😉
Apology accepted. Any idea who the father is? 🙂
I don’t know, I wasn’t there for the making of that Bunn in her oven. (Did I do that right?)
Andrew, I’m with you on this.
Really can’t see much reason for moaning already; we’re barely a week into the transfer window, and how many ‘big’ deals have actually gone through in the rest of this league? Not many, despite continuous noise on the gossip sites: Chech going to Arse on a free, RVP maybe dropping out to somewhere in Turkey. Sterling pratting around each day, but not actually sold yet…
If we’d already confirmed that Benteke and/or Delph had actually gone, I might just be anxious about who’s coming to replace each of them, and when; but so far we’ve just cleared out some deadwood and brought in what might be a very respectable signing in Richards. Using Gueye’s work permit issue as yet another reason to moan at the club/ owner doesn’t make much sense either.
I suppose that by refusing to partake in the wailing and despair I’ll be accused of joining the ‘blind optimists’ – but really some people need to step back and not immediately assume an automatic, default, negative stance on every single piece of news or rumour that they hear.
Just absolutely amazes me how many people on here believe the made up media, the same media that they love to criticize for being awful, they take as gospel when it’s negative about us.
I don’t get the whole complaining about Gueye thing either, Villa can’t make it go any faster. It’s government meaning it takes a long time, no matter what government body you go through.
If Given signs for Stoke, be interesting to see what Begovic does. His career is over if he joins Chelsea. Would he sign for Villa? Not exactly a step up at the moment, but maybe he will take a chance…
How much should we bid for Raheem Sterling? We might get him for a couple of million!!! He’d better hope that clown Rogers never gets the England job after today’s revelations.
I wonder whether Man City might be having second thoughts about signing a prize ball bag like him – the PR would be horrific. No big money for Sterling = No money to buy Benteke.
I can’t stand Liverpool (especially Skrtel) but I’d admire them standing up to Sterling and letting him sit the season out on £30k a year. What an absolute bell end.
I still think Benteke and Delph will stay.
it has to be said sterling has been badly advised. it goes to show how money motivated some of these players and agents are . some are willing to risk a players reputation for a few extra pounds and a slice of the transfer fee that they think there entitled to. its time the clubs take the power back from the agents but the clubs wont stick together to do this.
Langford, we’ve only just started into a window that lasts until September 1st.
While I’d prefer we did our business quickly so players have plenty of time to bed in, it’s early days.
You never know, we might just be spending Lerner’s budgeted (usual) £15 mill, with more from the new owners to come later.
I can hope, can’t I? 🙂
It’s early days mate and while it might seem bleak up til now, I’m not going to moan just yet.
As for Gueye’s permit taking a while, we’re talking about the government here!
He’s not struggling for a permit and let’s not forget this is our most expensive player in 4 years.
It’s hardly fair to slate him before we’ve even seen him, imo.
Are you your grandson (the gasser) in disguise, I wonder?
Luna out.
Gone to Eibar apparently.
Good, more deadwood gone, imo.
He never really broke into the squad, but the fact that Lambert brought in Bertrand on loan in the very same window may suggest it was never meant to be.
I am sad to see his beard go though… now we are stuck with whatever Gabby is growing.
as long as he is HOT on CROSSes I don’t care.
Hey-ho, I’m bord where’s the current bunn this morning, ?
