Fair play to the VAR there, they left no stone unturned in their quest to disallow a goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
— Paddy Power (@paddypower) January 10, 2022
When a bookie says this, you know the game is corrupt.
They spent three minutes analysing the goal and were looking to disallow it. If that’s a clear and obvious error, I’m a Dutchman.
I sent a text to a Man U supporting friend of mine telling him that if they’d looked at it for another couple of minutes they’d have actually given the goal to Man U.
His reply? “A clear and obvious error on our Eddie” with a PMSL smilie.
And then “How shit are we?”
In other words, even Man U fans know that was just wrong.
I’m not going to analyse this game, apart from saying they took their one chance and we didn’t take ours.
It’s not worth going any deeper, because no matter what we did we’d have been playing against more than eleven players.
I’ve said that I didn’t believe it before, but I’m now convinced we need investigations and an inquiry to take place, as I’m convinced money is changing hands.
All in my own opinion.
I’m just disgusted.

I honestly feel sick 🙁
Oh, I’ve been struggling to see where Coutinho fits in.
He replaces Ings, simple, to my mind.
Agreed.
I noticed Buendia was playing more on the right side tonight and we know Coutinho favours the left so that should work.
Badger you don’t need to say any more – covered it in one.
It’s not just Villa fans saying VAR were determined to disallow the goal. Absolutely disgusting.
Villa should talk to their lawyers!
Hitch, I’ve been saying ‘sue them’ since the first season back in the PL when we were getting shafted every other week by VAR. But no one took me seriously. Damn right they should talk to their lawyers. Give these bent ‘officials’ and whoever is organising them something to think about.
Remember – Lansbury’s disallowed goal at Palace; countelss joke penalties against Manure; Kane’s joke dive at VP for a penalty; the 3 miles offside goal at the Emirates (rules changed after the match); Salah’s tumble at Anfield recently…that’s just off the top of my head. The list goes on and on and is no doubt longer than the figures being made by the corruptors of the game.
F*** them all.
*at the Etihad (not Emirates)
…don’t forget Ramsey’s perfectly good goal against Leicester disallowed as well. I recall the bookies tweeting something about that one as well.
Paddy Power headline sums it all up. If they didn’t have the Cavani block to rescue them, they would have spent another 5 minutes rewinding the play till they found something.
The game is corrupt, pure and simple. Villa were conned tonight. I wonder if Fergie time was legit???
Undoubtedly, Tony. And very sadly.
How come there’s VAR and most games didn’t have it. I’ve said it time and again the FA are corrupt even the commentators tonight have been left bemused. their are 4 refs from up north being used that are either taking back handers or bent as a five bob note.
Spot on Bill.
How the hell can you have VAR at some games and not others, in the same competition?
Is it because the lower league clubs don’t have VAR?
Definitely fixed in favour of the big six so they can stay at the top.
Unt had 8fouls 3 booking villa had 1foul and 1 booking most of them by Shaw
Agree they would have carried on till they found a way to disallow the goal.
It’s getting obvious now that it’s a bent game everytime we play unt there’s a decision that goes their way.
Why didn’t car check Konsa knocked over in the box with a bloody nose?
It’s time the big six left to play on their own in their super League they so badly want.
Roy, maybe that’s why this keeps happening – their desire to leave for a Super League. Maybe they already have too much power – more than the English game itself. We were all sickened at the attempted breakaway last year. Now we’re thinking let the bastards go.
All that glitters ain’t gold. The ‘Super League’ will look shiny and special but it will be a corrupt shell of a competition – no substance, no tradition, no integrity. Money, money, money. WHEN it happens, anyone who subscribes to watch is is a mug and a traitor. I said it last year – let them f*** off but would love to see them playing to empty stadiums. Sadly, there are too many ‘bitches’ out there who will pay through the nose to watch their ‘heroes’ ‘compete.’
F*** them all.
My theory Badger, Man Utd must not lose competitions if they do Banks suffer, there something big behind Man Utd and its to do with money ,failsafe was VAR. How is it they get the same refs, is it back handers? Oliver has never liked the Villa from day one but we get him. I’ll be interested in seeing who will ref Sunday. That game yesterday was fixed.
Nail on head, Bill.
The VAR bit is what we’ve come to expect.
The big surprise was six minutes injury time at the end – did the ref get confused and think Manure were losing?
I think money is changing hands as well also how can you have var at one ground and not another in the same competition different rules in different games
Football is as corrupt as the British police force and its you’re average man on the street who suffers
So sick of football
It’s sad, Little8, because football has always been the escapism for the ‘common man’ – the outlet to vent frustrations, express unbridled joy, and feel a sense of belonging. There’s nothing better when it’s played with integrity. They’ve f***** that up for everyone like everything else, all for money of course.
F*** them all. I’m on one now. Seriously p***** off!
The use of VAR only for Premier League sides in the competition is simply wrong. There should be one set of playing conditions and to have VAR in the minority of games affecting the outcome of those games is inequitable. Without it Villa’s goal would have stood and we might still be in the Cup.
And 6 minutes added time was less than it should have been. VAR spent between 3 & 4 minutes checking the goal so if you add treatment of injuries plus substitutions then how can it be only 6 minutes?
So it was Fergie time after all!
Aaron Ramsey loaned to Cheltenham to the end of the season.
This kid’s supposed to be better than his brother.
Good move as long as he gets playing time.
I was gutted about last night because we had the beating of them all day. VAR is so dodgy its really quite shocking. We got stuck in to them and they hated it. Fair play to the lads for their effort, on another day we could have scored 3 or 4. I tell you what get those united boys back to Villa Park and with the same intensity we will beat them this weekend. My only question… Why bring AEG on?? he needs to go now he’s finished at Villa. Should have been Chuky that came on, more desire to impress and nowhere near as greedy!! UTV
Badger, I’m glad you and others are taking this seriously now. There is something seriously wrong. everyone can see it. I believe it’s up to Villa’s top brass to come out with a statement, with the next step being legal procedures. These ‘officials’ must be held accountable. It’s beyond sickening. And I’m writing this as a football fan mainly, not a Villa fan.
Enough is enough. Someone has to show some balls and make the first move.
I’ve just had an idea. It’s very simple. Make VAR time-limited. You get 30 seconds to look at it, then it switches off. If you can’t see anything in 30 seconds with super slow-mo then there’s nothing there, no decision to give. Last night was the last straw. Set a limit. If it’s ‘clear and obvious’, you don’t need 5 f****** minutes to make a decision. What is clear and obvious is there needs to be a limit on how long these pricks get to view the replays.
F*** them all.
Absolutely right.
If the ref and linesmen didn’t spot any obvious ‘foul’ then it shouldn’t take 4 minutes for the bastards in the VAR room to search for a reason to disallow a goal.
Give them 30, maybe 60 seconds, and the ref’s initial decison stands.
Yesterday’s game was a complete travesty: as others have said, if you are in any competition then the ground-rules should be the same for all teams – if you can’t have VAR at some games in that competition, you shouldn’t use it in any of them.
Until last night I was under the impression that VAR was only supposed to check a single possible refereeing ‘error’ at any given time – which was initially suppsedly a possible offside not spotted by the ref or linesmen. So who then asked them to rewind even further and look for another ‘ referiing error’ in the build-up?
It really was totally sickening to see the VAR people desperately trying to find a reason to disallow that goal – just to keep ManUre in the competeition.
BFR, you have a point there, even a barrister would ask the VAR why did it take so long? They would have to explain what was their concern. They obviously say the rule of footballing law, then that question would have to be explained, What Law.!!the rules are with the ref,if you don’t need a ref why pay for one.,all you need is someone to blow a whistle.,the game gone stupid for the fans in the game. It’s got to change and away from, Man Utd and refs that are bent…
Mark Halsey (former referee) says that the correct decision was made (surprise surprise) although it shouldn’t have taken 3-4 minutes.
But the ‘logic’ of that is that VAR can still review everything between the last break in play and the event in question to check whether the ref/linsemen ‘missed’ anything at all…
So can we now expect VAR to review the previous 5 minutes of every game whenever someone decides that the ref may have missed something?
Peter Walton in the Times the same. This ignores the fact that with a clear run Cavani still would not have been near playing the ball in that free kick sequence. Also Cavani made no attempt to avoid Ramsey, just ran into him.
That brings me to another point where refs have not cottoned on to the latest top level cheating. Villa have had 2 penalties against from it and now a goal disallowed. A player running into the box with a defender running a close parallel track half a stride behind jumps sideways into the track of the defender. This brakes the attacker’s pace and forces the defender to run into the back of the attacker. That should not be a penalty because the attacking player has forced the collision. Inevitably the defender’s track will be goal-side of the attacker, so in jumping that way the attacker gives up his options to shoot or cross towards goal – he is now turned towards the corner flag. That is not a natural movement – it is clearly intended to buy the penalty.
Last night Cavani made no effort to avoid Ramsey – had he done so and still been brought down there would be no complaint. It was another attempt to buy a decision in the box.
Re that top level cheating, yep, totally correct. And exactly what Salah did on Mings.
It’s clever, but blatantly obvious once you’ve seen it.
Villa agree deal with Dundee United to buy Kerr Smith in a deal that could be worth up to £2m. Travelling to Villa for medical.
17 year old defender (right back?) whose rated as one of the best for his age in the U.K.
Initially will be integrated into U23’s.
So, following on from the Josh Feeney signing continuing to build an impressive base of very promising young footballers.
Hopefully one of them will be the next Mark Delaney, who Gregory picked up from Cardiff for ‘peanuts’…
I was 20 yards away from the tackle that ended his career. Filthy Bocanegra. Had a history of doing the same in the US.
Two excellent tweets that I’ve c&p’d:
“Some unfortunate news for #AVFC fans: after a lengthy VAR check, Kortney Hause’s winner at Old Trafford on September 25 has now been disallowed.”
and
“Don’t be surprised if the VAR chiefs scroll all the way back through the footage to the McParland 1957 ‘nudge’ to find an excuse to disallow our next goal.”
Funny. But the scary thing is we’ve come to a point in life when it wouldn’t surprise anyone if this was true.
Gary Lineker:
“Rather strange intervention from VAR. Seemed determined to find some reason to rule out the goal. Not sure that was anywhere near enough.”
Damning is the line “Seemed determined to find some reason to rule out the goal.” It was live on the BBC FFS. Everyone saw it and thought the same, apart from a few Utd ‘die-hards’ (I can think of a better, more offensive name for them).
When is someone going to do something about this s***?
United fans – an idea: Hang a big banner over the Stretford End with “VAR – the 12th Man” on it.
Maybe the Villa faithful can come up with something for the weekend with words to the same effect.
Love it BFR 🙂
I’m on a positive mission after last night.
Coutinho arrived at Birmingham airport this afternoon and will train tomorrow.
Expect him to be on the bench Saturday and am looking forward to a 20 minute cameo and the winner against the cheats from the north.
This is worth a watch. Holy Trinity Show on last nights game. Very objective and honest, hard view of where we are as a club, the problems in the game around bias and, of course VAR.

Hope I’ve got the link right
Villa confirm Coutinho deal after passing a medical and receiving a work permit.
BBC are reporting that we are closing in on the Digne signing and that Benitez is interested to taking AEG on loan to the end of the season.
The deals are not linked.
McNulty is reporting the above which is interesting as when Sky first broke the story he was reporting that no offer had been made. Probably safe to assume matters have progressed.
I assume this means we will no longer pursue Aaron Hickey unless Gerrard wants both and Targett out of the door?
The Referee for the Utd game on Saturday is David Coote, who incidentally is a Utd fan and even has a picture of Old Trafford on his profile page.
You couldn’t make it up.
Well they have to help the media favourites as much as possible – probably part of the deal when they withdrew from the super league.
Couldn’t they just give Manure an automatic entry into Europe even if they come 20th in the league (no relegation of course) and then they wouldn’t need to fix the games. I say this tongue-in-cheek but I’ll bet there are a number in the FA and media who wish they could do just that
If this is true, Mr Purslow should be making some calls and Gerrard shouldn’t send his team out until another ref’ is appointed for the match. The problem is the level of apathy. This simply cannot be allowed to happen and everyone is high positions at VP should be making noise about this – in a professional manner. They’re getting away with it because we allow them to.
If this ref’ is in charge and we lose to dodgy decisions, we have to blame ourselves, because we knew. It’s no good bedding the office trollop then complaining when you catch herpes!
To be fair – Coote did referee Villa’s last win – at Norwich.
Back to the positive stuff.
Sky reporting Villa have now agreed a fee of £25m for Digne and he’s due at BMH today for a medical.
All being well he’ll be available for Saturday’s game.
His attacking stats are really impressive – not so much his defending though!
I hope the anger is burning strong at Villa Park ready for the next game. A humiliating 10-0 win please.
So you mean 23-0 with 13 goals chalked off by VAR?
That’s the one!
Badger found a great pic; unable to post it but it says:
Checking club badge
VAR
Says it all!
Sid, it’s included in The Holy Trinity show I included a link to in an earlier post on this thread. I thought it was brilliant and so relevant.
The show is really worth watching
