Luton-Villa; we should go for it.

I’ve seen certain views that suggest that the last thing we want is cup runs.
I quite simply think that’s a terrible opinion and my attitude is that you should play every single game with a view to winning. The whole idea of the game is to score more goals than the opposition and if you lose that aim, you might as well not bother; it’s as simple as that.

Yes, I can see the argument that you lose some with the aim of winning the bigger prize, but that’s not what it’s about at all, for me.

So it’s really disappointing to have read that we might actually make 11 changes for this game!
That’s crazy, as we have players who can’t be fully up to speed this early in the season, surely?

I believe we need to play what RDM considers our best side and get them out there, winning. Which is what we should do, if you look at it on average.
Luton, at the end of the day, play in League 2 (4th division in old money) and even though they’ve had a good start after a 3-0 win against Plymouth, we should have plenty in hand to beat them.
Of course, we’ve lost the odd league cup game recently against supposedly inferior opposition, which just shows how you can seriously slip up at times, but we need to start demonstrating that we can take out what on average are lesser teams, if we’re to show signs that we’re moving forward.

The likes of Man U and Arsenal etc can ignore/take the proverbial out of this competition if they want, but I hold them in a lower regard because of it.
At the end of the day, it’s still silverware.

Play our best side and look to saving/resting players after they’ve actually done something, in my opinion.

We’ll stuff Luton, if we have the right mindset, with the right side.
But the second string will probably struggle.

I really hope RDM takes this seriously.

  1. You have to ask are the players doing this on purpose? cant get any lower absolute shower of fucking shite ,fucking sick of this …biggest team in europe in five years what is this fucking buffooooooon on?.
we will be playing southport away in five fucking years absolute fucking embarrasment.

    1. I can honestly see us going down again this year if we don’t win Saturday that’s it as far as I’m concerned. RDM has done nothing he’s had whole season to sort defence out its pathetic

  2. Oh dear.
When will the realisation set in that Grealish Gardner and others are not good enough?
How can you expect a team so low in confidence with awful players to show passion when you have a manager who is tactfully naive and shows no enthusiasm or motivation.

    1. Should of gone for someone like Pearson when we had the chance too late now

  3. Oh dear oh dear oh dear. Definitely not what was needed. Okore is utter shite. In fact their all shite tonight.

    1. We are all entitled to an opinion but it seems some on here are more inclined to abusive comment than objective arguement.

Calling people names is not particularly intelligent and demeans you Stubbs more than it does Pat or me.

I’ve enjoyed the debate on this blog – even with OohAh, the Victor Meldrew of AVN&V – who has never descended to personal abuse but, given this isn’t the first time I suffered personal abuse on this site, I find that I no longer have any desire to contribute

      1. @Hitchens

I don’t normally reply to your posts as I find you somewhat boring and contradictory. Having finished laughing hysterically at your latest contribution I couldn’t resist replying.

The sentence you posted “Calling people names is not particularly intelligent and demeans you Stubbs more than it does Pat or me” would confirm this being as you call others different names to their own I.E Gabby = Flabby.

If you want to dish out banter you need to be prepared to receive it also, but judging by your decision that you “no longer have any desire to contribute” has merely given the sign you have thrown your toys (and dummy) out of the pram.

        No doubt you’ll be back.

        Have a pleasant day Bitch.

        🙂

        1. The irony is Stubbs is he did post again, to say he wasn’t posting again??
It’s all totally transparent, next Badger , Oohah or whoever will post something along the lines of “it’s your decision but we’ll miss your contribution blah blah blah”
And hey presto, ego massaged, he’ll be back.

          1. Hi just picked up on this thread. Hitchens no need for you to go if there is personnal abuse email me or Badger and it will be stamped out straight away. IV looked through thread and and can’t find anything obvious. I’m sure I speak for Badger in saying personnal abuse won’t be tolerated on this site. If you are reading this Hitchens please contact one of us. Cheers

  4. Are Tishbola and Gardner still on the Pitch?
Time for Tony to step up and get rid of DMateio
    Looks like Holloway was right.

    1. Looks like OOHAH was right too though wish I wasn’t. I don’t even think new players are the answer as we will still be stuck with same old dross. It’s more a mental and tactical thing now

  5. No defence no midfield and then take off the new 12 million goal scorer.
No excuses there been time to assess the team time to realise the awful quality.
    DMateio has to go.
    He lacks passion and motivation.

      1. This is just embarasing!! The stick I’m gonna get tomorrow 😪😪😪

    1. Thought grealish did ok so did amavi in patches. The rest of the team go though complete shiite

      1. Amavi needs time, he’s not had much football at all over the past year, so if the plan is to play him regularly and forgive some of his rustiness, then the other three defenders need to be on their game, Elphick is good, but take your pic out of any of our other defenders and they are all pretty awful, a new partner for Elphick and a new right back must be a priority but i just don’t see this being addressed.

A good team starts from the back, there is no point flooding the squad with midfielders and forwards until this has been sorted out.

  6. That was pretty indefensible. It started too easy and we took our foot off the gas. Once we let them in the game there was only one team wanted to win it. Thought Grealish did well but in a position where his impact is limited. The rest were awful on the whole. Big job for Di Matteo and it’s clear Xia needs to spend some cash quickly.

One thing that bothered me was the lack of passion from the bench. The management team just sat and watched. I would like to see some passion from them as well as the team.

  7. Lol the result made me laugh. Another defence horror show including a classic own goal. When will this nightmare end!?

  8. I wrote this on FB near the end of 1st half….”Sitting back on the lead….had plenty of times when they could get down to the line and cross and just played a ball inside.Green the main culprit.”….and then came the subs and it was the end….

  9. The half time subs were absolutely criminal. Hutton and Gestede, two of the biggest donkeys at the club. We played some really nice stuff first half and should have been 2 or 3 up. Second half was abysmal. Richards at CB is a joke and Okore had a nightmare.

  10. What is it with us?
We keep employing coaching staff who can’t teach the basics and just look like they belong in madam tussauds when it goes wrong.
Yes the players are not good enough but when you that we should be launching balls into the box and keeping it away from our own but we seem to do the opposite.
So i blame the coaching staff for our two defeats

  11. A defeat at home on Saturday and the honeymoon for the new regime will be truly over. First time in our history being knocked out in the first round. The records just keep coming. I’ve just now realised my blind faith in this club cannot take much more. I keep coming back for more. Lose on Saturday and I’m off until every player from that cursed squad is gone. Not fit to wear the shirt on tonight’s showing.

      1. But OohAh you didn’t want us to proceed on this ‘Mickey Mouse’ cup – why are you now complaining?

    1. Yes Tekkers. I had my list drawn up by the last game of last season and until they are all crossed off Villa don’t get a penny out of me. Bunn Richards and Hutton from my list were on the pitch.

  12. My lord – we are in for a long season. Any progress made, with regards to morale, in preseason is all but gone now – and the season just started 4 days ago!

  13. Lack of team spirit is the thing for me, it looks as though we put 11 strangers on the pitch. When all is said and done RDM can’t be scrutinised for individual errors, but seriously needs to work on connection and moving the ball as a team. No anticipation of where team mates will be and no transition between defence/midfield/attack.

We’re really in need of a strong defensive midfielder, preferably with a wise old head that can take the sting out of the game. The amount of times Luton picked up the ball in the hole between the midfielders and defence was worrying.

    1. Yes you can blame the manager.
The team plays how there taught ie
      Passing at the back
      How to clear your lines

If you keep too much possesion at the back and do more back passes than ive had hot dinners when you already know were mistake prone whats going to happen

  14. Well RDM if you promised them all a game to show what they can do. Now you know. Please no more of these clowns at the back – Bunn Okore Richards Hutton.

    1. Richards at right back in the first half did alright imo… Better than Hutton! Just don’t put him in the middle!!!!!
