The source from Spain that broke the news of our interest in Carles Gil has said that after having talks with Valencia he has made it clear he is interested in the move to Villa. He is however expected to be in their matchday squad over the weekend.

Hope Lowton stays as he showed a lot of promise in his first season, though there can be no arguments that has behind Hutton in the pecking order.
In a crossover with the undisclosed fees article, Villa didn’t release the fee – the press speculated it was £3 million though Lambert said it was actually around £800k similar to Westwood, Sylla and a couple of others. This shows 1) how little Lambert has actually had in the transfer kitty and 2) the low risk signings who are no longer in his plans may turn a profit. Whether you love him or hate him you would have to admit Lamberts transfer record is far better than any recent Villa manager.

Better than McLeish, O’Neill and then Houllier’s 1 January window which in hindsight at the time was very good, I wouldn’t claim it would be all that hard.

Seems interesting Gardner’s leaving on loan again, this time to Nottingham Forest. If Goal are to be trusted.

That’s a very good point Jaymo, one which I’d forgotten about.

As for Lowton, maybe I’m wrong here, but I thought that if we loan a player out, we can set a clause that states how quickly he can be recalled.
Indeed, I’ve seen players recalled at 24 hours notice.

If that’s the case, how does it leave us stretched, if a player’s getting proper game time and keeping himself at decent levels of fitness?

Unless he gets injured, of course.
In which case, given our record of injuries, any player is probably safer at another club!

Personally i’d like to keep Lowton – he’s a decent player with a lot of potential IMO. His main fault is he doesn’t get tight enough to his man to stop crosses coming into the box, an area we have improved massively with Hutton and Cissoko. If he can be coached to work on this I think we will have 2 very good right backs to choose from.

Personally, I still think we need cover at left back or even an improvement on Cissoko who clearly needs to work on his final ball though I do like the rest of his game. That and 2 wide men who can cut in and pose a goal threat and an attacking midfielder could take this team to the brink of the Europa league places IMO and I don’t think we’d have to spend a fortune either.
Can’t see them all happening this window but amidst all the uncertainty around the Villa and the lack of support for Lambert I genuinely think, with the right additions, we could be turning the corner – personally I hope Lambert gets the opportunity to see the job through having worked for so long with one arm tied behind his back.

The thing is we all rant and rave but forget we’ve been where we are under Houllier (I know we finished 9th but that was only due to 2 back to back unexpected end of season wins), McCleish and now Lambert. For me Houllier and Lambert are/were actually trying to change the way we play, and, whether we agreed with it or not, seemed to be working towards an end goal.
Getting rid of the last 2 managers hasn’t changed our fortunes or seen a big transfer kitty handed to the next guy – what makes anyone think if we got rid of Lambert things would suddenly change? Can’t see many who’d take the job under the present circumstances and can’t think of anyone who could spend money as wisely as Lambert. As things are, like it or lump it, he’s probably the best man for the job. I’d love it if the majority of fans could really get behind the manager and the team until the end of the season and see how we get on.

if lambert was sacked or walked away, there isn’t any guarantees, we would hire the right manager to improve the club. going off lerners record of hiring the right manager isn’t great. i hope lerner backs this manager because i believe we are just 2 players short of a decent mid table team. that’s good enough for me after the roller coaster we have been on since mon walked out days before the season

I don’t ever see me getting behind Lambert again.
He’s pretty well done it for me, but like any typical footy fan, I can easily be turned.

It would only take some entertaining footy, a few goals and us moving up the table to achieve that.
Not much to ask is it? 🙂

In truth, my stance is more that I want Lambert and Lerner out.

As for managers, is Lambert the only one?
I very much doubt it. There has to be at least another one or two in the lower leagues who could do a job; there always is.
Not that Lerner will ever find them.

badger lets ask you hypothetical question

lets say your a decent manager would you actually commit professional suicide and manage a club like villa, if lerner thought you could manage the club with current players, no transfer funds and also reducing the the wages. also play attractive footy without getting us relegated, seems awful lot of impossible requests dunnit, say you failed your reputation takes a thump, look at what we done to mcliesh

Nath, take off the blinkers mate.
Lerner will give us next to nothing to spend in this window, as he’s raping the club and Lambert is having to see how things play out, which is why any signing/s will be last minute.

I’ve no doubt Lambert has players in mind, but he’d have signed them up early if he had serious money to spend.
    I hope I’m wrong, but bet I won’t be.

ppl on here need to get a GRIP, i don’t lose sleep either way, win or lose i sleep like a baby. you know if lerner splashes or doesn’t, i sleep soundly, so stop the fooking blinkers comments, where did i ever say or just say lerners gonna splash the cash. so i don’t wear blinkers to take off and as for you being wrong your always are

how about telling us badger about your hutton views, you slagged him off preseason still stand by your views or was you wrong

        Are you serious Nath?
I detested Hutton the same as pretty much any Villa fan.
But he’s been a revelation this season.
And I’ve said so, a few times, in the headline posts.
My view swings, depending what’s happening and I’m happy to be seen as someone who can be swayed either way.

That’s the trouble with you though Nath, I can’t get a grip of how you think, You never quite explain where you stand, imo.
I think you think Lambert is the man and Lerner will back him.

        Please clarify things for me.

As for what we did to McLeish?
You have to be kidding me.
He’ll never have as good a job again as long as he lives.
I’m sure his bank account will back that up.
An awful appointment, by a poor owner.

I’ll never get over that Spurs game, which was the ONLY one I’ve ever walked away from in all the time I’ve supported the Villa, which is a long time, trust me.

mcliesh was HIRED your words, by lerner.so you can see a pattern here, mcliesh was never gonna make a villa manager, but only one person, could have made such a disastrous decision of apppointing him, our owner and his none football advisor

then its you who wears the blinkers, my stance is no secret, i hate how the clubs being run, by this i mean shoe string budget. lerners setting funds, not the tea lady or the fan turning up week in and out. people obsessed by the manager are blinkered, lamberts a mere puppet and the master pulling his strings, is the owner. so answer your own question how i think.

if i need to draw a picture, i can do this iam quite a artists

They lack quality Bill so we should beat them but there again we don’t score enough so either way I think it’ll be close 0-0 1-0 or 0-1.
If I had to call it I’d go 0-1 Bill, we should just have enough to scrape it .

Every transfer window its the same with Lambert, takes in players and nothing works only fighting to stay up. We all know that funds are not there, this season the football is boring and I don’t know how many records he has broken. I would like to see Lambert turn it around this window and give us some hope, because we know he is not going anywhere.
