Lansbury in the bag; Pros and Cons

I have to say straight off that I’m not 100% convinced by the source, which is HITC;

http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2017/01/11/aston-villa-set-to-land-henri-lansbury/page/1/

Since when have they ever been first in coming out with Villa news?

Whatever, I’m willing to stick my neck on the block in going with it, as I think it’s in the bag anyway.

So what does he bring to us?

He can stick his foot in (that’s Westwood hopefully demoted) and creates and scores (likewise Gardner) when he’s on his game, which he has been lately.
Consider he’s in a team that’s struggling and a club that’s in a very iffy place with the takeover turmoil, yet he’s still achieving, that surely has to be a good thing?

But, he can disappear in games.
Indeed, if you read the Forest fans views, there are just as many want him gone as want him to stay, because of his inconsistency.

Whatever, at £3 millon he has to be worth a go and weren’t there similar suggestions about Adomah, who I think has been mostly good for us?

Hmm, the title isn’t that relevant really, is it?, as I can’t see many downsides.

The rumoured £40k a week wages might prove to be a drag if it goes wrong, but overall I’d say this is a great buy.
A hopefully rejuvenated player (inspired by the massive wage rise) in a club that’s seemingly on the up should help move us forward.

Just read this article in the Guardian about Graham Taylor – warm, honest and describing the real, kind, genuine man he was. Sadly it’s the sensationalist bullies in papers like the Sun that tend to define the press but there are some serious, honest journalists still out there.

sad day 🙁 R.I.P GRAHAM TAYLOR.

i will always remember, how he turned aston villa around. finishing bottom with a really bad squad of players. in came Taylor, bought lower league players, players that were just to get us promoted. he managed that in first season. finishing 2nd. we survived that first year in 1st division. then he kicked us on the following season finishing runners up to pool. he made villa profit on platt buying him for 200k selling for millions to bari. 🙁 r.i.p. thank you Graham

    Sad news.

GT was a real gent and will always be a big part of Villa’s history, despite a relatively brief total time at the club.

    R.I.P.

I had the pleasure of meeting GT briefly when we played Albion at the Hawthorns a few years ago now. I had a ticket that was going spare off an Albion mate, so I was in the Halford:s Lane stand. At half time we made our way down to the concourse and as I looked to my right the guy who was next to me was Graham Taylor who I immediately recognized so I said hello Graham. He acknowledged me with a smile and said hello he then asked me if I thought the Albion would win, obviously thinking I was an Albion fan, but when I replied I hope not I am a Villa fan, he looked me in the eye a gasp and said what are you doing in here. He then smiled, winked and said he hoped the Villa would win before wishing me well shaking my hand before disappearing into the press office.
Truly genuine man I had the pleasure to meet briefly.
RIP Graham Taylor a true Villian.

I only ever remember crying twice in my life,

Once was when I lost my dad at the age of 8 and the other was today, after hearing about GT.

    footballs loss is heavens gain.

    RIP GT

On a (much) lighter note reports say that Brady is going to Burnley for £13m and Schlupp to Palace for £12m.

    Oh well…

Pat – why would any of these players be prepared to step down a division or prefer a mid table Championship club to the Prem – even Downing at 32 appears to be against the notion. I suspect many of these links are ‘pie in the sky’ for us.

I have to admit I’m guilty of being led by shite reporting, I packed up buying papers over crap published articles, it now looks as if them media rags are fooling us again. If not you certainly me. Seeing is believing as for now.

@Bill @H60 have to agree with you both.

Said the same thing about only believing when it was announced by the club. Still can’t help myself, I’m still reading every bit of crap the press throw out.

Anyway looks like Gollini’s gone to Atalanta but what’s happened to Lansbury? No announcement as yet.

Apparently bid £1m for Barnsley captain Hourihane again a player out of contract in the summer. SB said we did have a Ho for Schlupp (sic) but couldn’t match Prem – going to be an ongoing problem; Bree probably falls into same catalogue.

I’m starting to feel we may not be successful in getting many in and will have to rely on the players we have!

Interesting question, but nothing to do with my opinion. I’m starting to read the same old rubbish we’ve been hearing for years, so excuse me if I don’t get into some debate/arguemenr with you. I see what I see, and I was right about Lerner so I may be right about Tony,” just saying”
