There’s been quite a bit of news coming from Aston Villa over the last 12 hours, with assistant managers Culverhouse and Karsa suspended till the end of the season. Cowans has been promoted and took over training today with Lambert told by the Villa board to involve himself more in trainings. It appears as though Shay Given has been promoted for motivational purposes.
Still another headline that popped up was that Paul Lambert is safe and will be backed by Lerner this summer. If Aston Villa stay up the club will earn roughly £63 million from the new Premier League TV deal. It was reported that the majority of that cash will be used to sign new players. This money will also go towards Fabian Delph’s and Ron Vlaar’s new contracts. Any additional money made from player sales will also go towards the transfer budget.
This rebuilding will see Lambert change his transfer philosophy, no longer will Aston Villa buy by the bulk and instead look at players with a similar price to Benteke. Lambert’s best transfers have been between the £5-10 million range, those signings include Vlaar, Benteke, Kozak and Okore.
Of course with a rebuild that will mean that players will be shipped out and I addressed potential in this article.
