Right, I agree with some of your points..what I disagree with, although I know it is the case for some, is the fanaticism with which you speak of supporting the club. For MANY nowadays, going to games is less a way of life and more a treat or surprise based on financials and travelling. This is the case for me. When I go to a football match nowadays, I wished to be entertained. You ask ANY CEO/FD of a football club at the top, and they will tell you, “Football is a business, and the business is entertainment”. That’s the long and short of it.

People go to football matches, let’s face it, mostly, to watch something enjoyable and for the banter of the crowd.

I 100% do not condone booing, especially after only a few games of the season. However, I also don’t subscribe to the view that Villa fans should be cheering regardless of how badly the players are playing etc.

People need to realise, this is no longer a “game”. These are professionals within their workplace, and performance is everything (as with any job). Performance is an expectation and a minimum, not a luxury.

For me; I wish to be entertained.

Now, in terms of our progression, I believe we have made some moves forward. Perhaps the wisdom of us Villa fans leave something to be desired however. We pushed for our youth to be given the chance, and we scraped through with some highlights, but mostly poor performance and naivety last year. Now, we’d expect that we would kick on…but what is kicking on for us?

For me, anywhere from 14th to 8th would be considered progression. It’s early days guys….defensively we need to improve, and as much as KEA has composure on the ball, he has no pace and lacklustre aggression….for me, we need to have Westwood, Delph and Sylla in there…a mix of creativity (Westwood), Ball winning mentality (Sylla) and the most important part, transition (Delph). Delph, for me, is key….he is the ONLY midfielder we have had in the last 5 years or so that can transition successfull from Defence into Attack. If his consistency improves, he’ll be key.

Delph also gets back to collect the ball and give the defence a channel out instead of the long ball, something Sylla does well.

You know, towards the end of the match I think we lost pretty much all the (small amount of) creativity because Delph and Gabby were knackered from running around everywhere.

You’re right though JD about the noise levels, it only really kicked off when the team came out after half time and had a go at it. I did wonder if it would be like the Liverpool game but it didn’t work out in the end. How to break it though and get everyone making noise? This might sound naff but get some song sheets on the seats, or even try to work out one at the start like the Hammers bubbles. Obviously not as cheesy.

I was in the Upper Holte (K6) but 2 rows up…. K4 sang quite a bit. But all around me and the rest of the ground were silent. I felt uncomfortable, and a bit pissed off when after only 3 minutes some guy sat a couple of seats away started yapping on, Lamberts this, so and so’s that…. for the rest of the game. The boos at H/T were a disgrace too…!!!

True, we were terrible for a majority of the game but having to listen to idiots like that (he wasn’t the only one) make me just want to travel to away games with the crazy bunch, enjoy the day and leave VP alone.

alk about a Red Herring, a post put up in an attempt to take our eye off the ball and take the heat off Lerner and Lambert and their inadequacies of by blaming the fans for Villa’s short comings?
OK fair enough it’s all our fault, we didn’t sing loud enough.

I was at the game in the Doug Ellis as thought the fans were great in the second half in particular. There has been a realisiation though that the team is not nearly as good as some people were saying after the Arsenal match. Our Midfield (Delph being an exception) and defence are really really poor and look like a bunch of low cost limited players which in effect is what they are. I think we will stay up again but lets not pretend we are anything more that a bottom half team, and when Benteke goes relegation will be a near certainty.

I get the arguments about Lerner but what can we do about it? Until some uber billionaire takes an interest and is in it to win the league then this is what we have to put up with…..

So i suggest instead of moaning about it, we do the one thing we can and support the side we do have.

I have more criticism with Lamberts formation and selection than I do Lerners non spending.

What Helenius says. Lambert would have to be both blind and deaf to not see the performance on Saturday and our (the crowd’s) reaction. If it doesn’t improve by Christmas then I’m sure we’ll all be a lot more vocal about it and seat sales will be down so everyone at the club will be paying attention. Look what happened to McLeish. Lambert needs the club to be successful for whatever end he has in plan (sell up or make good money from the club) but he first has to make it sustainable.

As Lord Hesketh once said, if you want to “make a small fortune from motor racing then star with a big one”. I have a feeling Lerner has already found out this the hard way.

The fans have been incredibly patient with Lambert tbh. His home record is very poor to say the least, 5 home league home wins out of 21 is simply unacceptable and the predictable “we go again” routine is already starting this season. The atmosphere isn’t great at VP but what exactly have the fans got to be excited about. Another relegation battle and watching our best player by more than a country mile Benteke leaving.
Personally, I just don’t think Lambert’s going to achieve anything at AVFC. I understand the constraints aren’t easy to work under and Lerner still has a hell of a lot to answer for, not that we will ever hear anything from him.
Our tactics are so predictable, and the lack of width is a massive problem and leaves the 2 centre backs exposed as the full backs come forward. The signing of Kozak was bizarre at a time we are crying out for a playmaker in midfield. I get the feeling at times Lambert panics and just throws strikers on, like he did against Bradford, which never results in anything as the whole team loses shape.
Then there’s the defence, no league clean sheet since 08/12/12. A staggering statistic and one that emphasises a clear lack of progression in that department. My conclusion is that Lambert never has been and never will be able to organise a defence. More bad times ahead I feel, though Benteke will save us again this season IMO, unless he decides to go in Jan. Then we’re screwed.

Its a two way street. Fans need to see something to get excited about. If we just lump long balls up to Benteke at home and constantly lose the ball then its no suprise the fans get frustrated and dont get behind the team.

During pre-season, Villa fans on Twitter seemed upbeat about the new signings. Tonev, although likes a shot looked exciting, Helenius looked decent with the ball and can finish, Okore’s a real talent, we didn’t know much about Luna but were upbeat that he surely couldn’t be worse than Bennett and Bacuna, well, maybe more of a 2nd R/side full back than a centre midfielder.
Then we signed Kozak, twitter was going mad with positives “He was UEFA Cup top scorer” blah blah blah.

My point is other than knowing we needed a playmaker, the general feeling around was positive, but only 4 games in we have booing at VP which is shocking. We played well in 2.5 of them.

Its negative to the players and its not their fault they’re getting picked, rightly or wrongly.

Anyways, just purchased tickets for next weeks Cup game. Carrow Road Saturday first though….Cannot wait.

Lol, at least give Bacuna another chance before you keep claiming he’s not good enough. But you’re right, Villa played well for 2.5 games, however that’s no longer good enough, results is what Villa need and Villa aren’t getting them. We should have had points from Chelsea and Liverpool and didn’t get them. At the time fans weren’t all that worried because most thought results would come against the lesser teams, then Villa get ran over by Newcastle, the likes of Tonev, Helenius, Bacuna still aren’t played even though they’re by and large match fit to play 90 minutes. So there’s little to be excited about when we can out play the big clubs and lose, and then utterly fail against a poor Newcastle team that has Ben Arfa who can destroy any fullback in the league, yet we don’t have one.

The fans are quiet at the moment because we are sick to the back teeth of watching abject shite week after week. there was a realisation from fans at the toon match that we are total crap and hopes of a better season are pie in the sky.
We cant expect these players to compete in the premiership when they come.up against top quality players every week they just aren’t good enough. It says everything about Lerner’s Villa that most fans would be estatic with a midtable finish which shows how far we have fallen and how expectations faded. The reason the atmosphere is
So poor is because Lerner has destroyed all hope of a bright future with dismal running of Aston Villa football club. Villa park will be buzzing again the day hr sells up.

It was very quiet in the holte on Saturday particularly in the 1st half and tbf with good reason but the booing at HT was unacceptable, who is tha5 going to help, the FT boos more understandable people were just frustrated and disappointed and tbf the atmosphere and noise picked up the start of the 2nd because the team fed us and we in turn fed the team and we could feel the equalizer coming and come it did but then we went and blew it, lowton was very poor but he and Luna wete left totally ecposef time again. personally i believe the attics and formation are at fault here, lambert has started the season ad he did the last with this 4-3-3/3-4-3 thing which works well on the counter away but not at home. hopefully we will sort it sooner than we did last season.
I’ve got to say though the almost seemingly bi polar nature of some supporters would be laughable if it werent so sad and some of the joyful gloating of some and scornful insults towatd anyone trying at least to give the result some perspective is shocking.
we were all disapointed and pissed off on Saturday and the performace was shite but fer fucks sake villans get a grip.

The glee in some of our regular posters efforts after a truly disappointing effort on Saturday is no surprise at all, not if you’ve been looking on here for a season or three.

We’re going down, all is doomed and Lerner and Lambert out is never far from the surface.

To suggest that we want Ellis back is ridiculous, the club is far better run these days, just other clubs have established themselves with a far more powerful financial base (wholly artificially in most cases).

We haven’t changed that much, the marketing is slicker, the PR is better, the team is still never quite good enough and the managers not up to the task in hand.

We were the same under BFR, Tayls II, Little and Gregory. What was missing then, was the half dozen clubs with oodles more cash, so we were flattered a little with our league standing.

I don’t think that we’re as bad a team as Saturday suggested, whilst I was patently aware that we were not title contenders after the Arsenal result.

Okore was a huge loss, but to suggest that he had the injury, we’re idiots for buying him, Chelsea knew he was carrying the knock etc sums a certain poster up. A poor man’s Ian Robo. Psychic abilities are not part of a medical examination. He’s not been out for any significant period with an injury before, Oohah must have better equipment than Bones on Star Trek to have this knowledge !

We did finish 6th in a season of over performance. Don’t forget that Everton, Spurs and Citeh were bottom third sides then, that’s changed.

The club is immeasurably better in all aspects but on the pitch, the team doesn’t look anywhere near as good as it did at times. Just hope we don’t get relegated, I doubt we will.

oh is that the latest is it vaze? okore is crocked for the rest of the season(practically) and that is lamberts fault too? jeez, its just pure bad luck is all, we are im sure all gutted for us and for the lad who looks really promising, its just one of those things, if certain people thought he was a sick note then why wasnt it bought up on here before?
i was on saturday gutted about the result, disapointed in a very poor performance and pretty pissed off and it has opened up a pile of concerns about the state of the team and lambert and i said as much on saturday despite some people thinking im some sort of lambert happy clapper blind to our problems which if anyone has know me on here that is just not true.
terrys article ‘writing on the wall’ is so knee jerk and ott and considering he himself was gushing with positivity after the arsenal game shows a child like response to loosing a game. im used to that with terry but it has surpirised me the venom and sheer ott ness of some posters on here who i thought would be able to keep some perspective.
if we go on in the same manner for the next 2 or three gamesthen fair enough, saturdays performance was the worst ive seen from villa since the bradford game, i thought we’d moved on from there and the reemrgence of lambert throwing strikers on and loosing formation is very concerning but for people to go from saying we might finish top ten and being in general positive to ‘Lamberk out! Learner out!’ after one(admittedly unacceptable shite performance)is laughable.

Isnt it just so so sad that we dont go to any teams in the top 6 and think we may get a result, we now just hope we dont get a stuffing, and are not embarrassed, our expectations as fans I think has been hammered over the last few years…. And who can we blame for this, you cant run Harrods like Poundland Mr Lerner.
Gareth Barry told his representatives to sound out the Villa for a possible loan move and we
After the players we have shipped out we cant keep be given the same excuse as wages and transition. We are now once place off the relegation zone and lost the last 3 games, no clean sheet again and people are saying let wait til Christmas…..
