Lambert contemplates a Scottish U-21 Coach

I really give up with Lambert.

It now transpires he is contemplating bringing in Billy Stark, the Scottish U-21 coach to help him out;

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/aston-villa-eye-billy-stark-3421016

He has to be joking, surely?
I wouldn’t want the Scottish first team’s coach, let alone the U-21.
I’m not anti Scottish in the slightest, but what on earth would he have to offer to the Prem?
You might as well bring in a League two coach, as that’s about the quality of Scottish footy.

Another sign of yet more total lack of ambition, from a manager, owner and club that is just looking to survive.

I really struggle to believe that Lerner still has any faith whatsoever in Paul Lambert.

My god, Lambert just has to go as this simply isn’t good enough for the Villa, even when we’re struggling.
And if Lerner is actually listening to this tripe, he simply has to go too.

Or are we all just being played?
Nothing would surprise me anymore.

I’m struggling to keep up here and am feeling a bit frazzled, as I’m not sure whether this is the board trying to get rid of Lambert or them actually being stupid enough to go down this road in backing Lambert to the hilt.

At the moment, I just want the lot of them gone, as what’s going on is a total disgrace and making us a laughing stock.

William McGregor will be turning in his grave, wondering what the hell is going on with the famous club that he practically formed, I’m sure.
And just in case you think I’m being racist, he was a Scot too.

So you lot go on about how us positives are forever swallowing Villas PR……yet as soon as a tabloid print something you instantly believe….The Mirror too!!!
If we believe everything weve read this week, , Come next season should we stay up, the 7th richest man in the world is taking over with Klopp, Platt, Lambert and Stark all on the payroll…… Jesus, can we just finish this season first!!!

If you read the article, I’ve said I’m not sure what to believe anymore.

All I know is whatever is happening just isn’t right.
And it needs sorting fast, which I would suspect is what many fans think.

We need total control and damage limitation of a situation that makes us look more of a joke than the shit down the road.
Are we seeing any sign of it?

      No.

We’re now seeing how good those who run the club really are.

And that’s why something has to change, imo.
And it doesn’t involve a scottish U-21 coach, regardless of how good he might be.

Smell the coffee mate, we’re imploding!

Who the f*^k is “Billy Stark” – where did he come from, what remotely qualifies him to any sort of role at VP?

Every piece of ‘news’, ‘statement’ or ‘rumour’ that’s been associated with the club since last weekend does indeed smack of sheer desperation and panic.

  4. marvin avatar

I would be surprised if this happened before the season’s end, although the assessment of Stark sounds a bit harsh. So what if he is the Scottish U21 coach. If anything his current position should make him the most qualified person for the job considering he is already used to working with less than an ideal pool of under performing players. Ultimately we should know over the next two-three games if Lambert and Faulkner acted for the betterment or demise of the club.

“If anything his current position should make him the most qualified person for the job considering he is already used to working with less than an ideal pool of under performing players.”

Yep, in fairness, that about sums it up Marvin.

    I’m giving up for tonight.
I have a Stoke fan to face tomorrow and he’s going to give me so much stick it’s unreal.
A Stokey taking the piss out of a Villa fan says it all 🙁

  6. Wouldn’t surprise me. The whole Grant Holt debacle shows Lamberk will stoop to any level to bring a supporter of him to the club, even if it is to the detriment of the team.
Instead of trying to bring in a forward thinking manager, the board suck up to Lamberk and his sheep. Same old story

    1. on the grant Holt subject when he was signed there was a strange comment from Lambert that i couldn’t put my finger on”hes a real man”was Lambert witnessing bullying then and did nothing about it?

  7. Ii wish this article read: Lambert contemplates becoming scottish u21 coach!!

Villa to finish in top ten next season. 4 Vlarr type signings in the summer. No relegation worries and reasonably entertaining football. Jesus is that too much to ask for Mr Lerner. Give us some pride back. Can Lerner, lambert and Faulkner deliver this ????? Doubt it.

  9. i am a burden of bad news i slaughtered a pint or twoooo matbe threeeee i saw us in the championship next yeah its not all bad. i saw us win a game cheer up guys its not as bad as it seems

So we’re a joke because we’re linked to an U-21 Scottish manager, but you don’t know what to think, because it could be false. Well at least you remembered to call Villa a joke in there despite this could be all fabricated.

Lambert is doing his best to relegate villa in the hope that norwich will stay up.
His managerial team then end up back at Norwich next season.
I know this is b*****ks but everything is at the moment..

  14. Billy F**king Stark? Yea just what the doctor ordered,no experience of the EPL, never managed played or took and holiday outside Scootlund, brilliant.

    1. GIDDYVILLAN avatar
      GIDDYVILLAN

We’ll be having Billy fucking Connelly next to motivate the team.what a fucking joke

  15. palace are shit u all said. 3points easy, 3 nil lmao they only went to top 4 chasing everton and won ~ lmao is it possible ppl underestimate opposition teams squads. and really know very little about anything. if we had 2 put villa squad in rank of depth and quality i would rank us 20th behind norwich and cardiff.

blame game who you like, but lerner is the main suspect, comes flashing the cash, then withdrew this 2 strip us to the bone and fall guy lambert takes the flak. when truth be known is we are piss poor. if we could tax the best manager we wouldn’t improve that much.only when lerner fucks off will we

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

well at least norwich will get mullered on sun good enough for us

    2. No Nath we all didn’t say Palace was shit, I was amongst many that have given up on Villa and its so called Lambert shit, you have been defending Lambert over the weeks now you’re agreeing, I took my grandson to that game thinking he might see a win, fuck me was I wrong I said at the time 2_1 lose. I still think we are in bad trouble and might go down.

      1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
        OohAhPaulMcGrath

we wont go down bill trust me not with the run in norwich have strating with a sunday mullering

frankley bill i just dont care anymore the lerner regime just leaves me numb and frustrated iv fallen out of love with the cub and nevr thought that would happen

      2. iam sorry ur grandson failed to see the villa win 🙁 my first game was a victory and sold me 4 life, iam sure he will see us win soon and make up for that one game.

i saw many ppl post how we are villa and should be beating palace. which annoyed me, cos whether we are villa, we still need 2 play and of late we aven’t turned in any sort of performances. palace are one hard side to beat. they give u the ball and say break us if u can. but they are quick to turn a defensive shape into a offensive one

i am not a lambert sheep i do want him 2 av a fair hearing and if at the end of season most want him out i will agree. but i do think we are down if norwich pull of a shock in last 4. cowans and given av 5 games to build team spirit up, villa lack skills but they always had team effort but this as lacked recently and we now see why

  16. Morgan Villa avatar

we don’t want other teams doing us a favour Giddy, we HAVE to have other teams doing us favours, been the same for the last few season. Yet Lerner thinks Faulkner is doing a good job and Lambert is safe….You couldn’t make it up eh?

  17. Taken form the secret footballer.

“My source at Villa Park is a man who, it’s worth noting, is as close to Aston Villa FC as it is possible to get without actually slipping on a shirt each week.”

“Lerner has stood by Lambert only because Lambert has agreed, somewhere along the line, to never mention the fact that he has no real money to spend.
Lambert is an extension of Lerner’s business model for Villa, which is to stay in the Premier League using a mixture of cheap foreign imports and home-grown youth.”

“Development coach Gordan Cowans is a “god” at Villa and has no doubt been promoted to give the managerial side of things a more likeable face.”

    2. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

sounds about right. But hopefully supporters should be able to see through this and whatever the score on sat lamberk out chants need to be heard loud and clear. If there is no lambert hostilities it sends a clear message to Lerner that his master plan has worked and we are all happy to accept lamberk and cheap dross for yet another season. This is are one and only chance to put pressure on lerner to sack the useless twat lets not blow it.

    3. Morgan Villa avatar
      Morgan Villa

I always thought Sid was on the bench with McLeish to try and make it fit

  18. So Lambert is part of Lerners business model to stay in the Prem on the cheap.
WHAT HAPPENS IF / WHEN WE GO DOWN.
    Lambert would have failed.

    1. And if we don’t come back up pretty sharpish RL can kiss good bye to his £200M (mind you how many houses would get on bodymoor heath ?).
And lets be honest with ourselves if the unthinkable did happen we couldn’t say it hasn’t been coming after 4 seasons of struggle on the bounce.

      1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar

Lerner purchased a Ferrari and tried to run it on cheap red derv, its when it breaks down not if….. And apart from us fans the club deserve it with there awful management and contempt towards the fans…… Why didn’t Lerner mention his bullshit ‘plan’ in his press release statement…… Because he hasn’t got one.

  19. I think the damage has been done. Even if we stay up I don’t know of any season ticket holders renewing including myself.
It has been chinese water torture for too long now. Going to the game has become a chore not something to look forward to.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

spot on i used to get a real buzz going to games no matter where we were in the league now its a chore. sums it up perfectly

    2. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

i think thousands will still renew. problem is a coupke of good results and everything is forgotten again

      1. I’m sure thousands will. But once you lose hardcore fans it is difficult to get them back.
In business it is always easier to keep your clients than it is to get new ones.
I started in 1976, the 2 blokes next to me 1955 and 1961. Once we get out of the habitof going i am sure we won’t go back.
My friends who have stopped going over recent years have all said they don’t miss it and i’m sure once i stop i will be the same.
Without the club giving the fans a big lift it will gradually die.

  20. In fairness to Lerner, he has spent, but that was eight years or so ago now.

He doesn’t need to take a profit from Villa, and I doubt he’s looking to sell, but what enjoyment he can be taking from stewardship at the moment is questionable.

We’ll probably spend about £30-£40m and look to finish midtable. Which managers are calling Villa daily to check the vacancies situation on that basis ?

This won’t appeal to many who want to see us challenging for the title or top four, but surely there are only five or six teams out of the ninety two that you’d buy a season ticket for if that’s your qualifying criteria.

So if you’re waiting for Larry Ellison to trade ocean yachting for football, and San Francisco for Brum before renewing, good luck.

Same old for me, do I like it, not really, will I do it, yeah, it’s a habit.

    1. If we spent £30 / £40 million on 4 or 5 players of which at least 2 are proven premier players that would be a lift for me.
The things that get me down are :
      1) buying cheap unproven players from lower leagues / abroad at the expense of our youth system. e.g .carruthers could have been tried ahead of Tonev
      2) Our tactics now appear to be undisciplined defending with a boot up to a lone striker and hope it bounces our way.
      3) Players constantly out of position. e.g. Weimann out wide, Albrighton centre of midfield.

At the end of last season we looked as though we could be going in the right direction. This year it is the opposite.

If i do renew my ST it will be out of habit. 35 years is a long habit.
I would like to renew because i enjoy it.
I’m a realist i am not expecting trophies but would like to see us play some good football on a consistant basis.
Hand on heart most the games we have won this season we have been lucky.

            LOL 😀

          2. Agreed, have been on about him for a while, and Taylor and de Guzman. Swansea have struggled to maintain last year’s form (proof again that the Europa League is a penalty not a prize) and some of their players could be up for grabs. Realistically these are the level of teams we can hope to buy from.

    2. Morgan Villa avatar

I think spending £30m a season on three maybe four good quality players a season would in a couple of seasons see us in a very different position. If we had the right coaching staff and infrastructure running throughout then i think we could be in a sustainable position pushing for top six season in season out.

I hope we still look in the lower leagues if a player is worth it along with any league as long as the player is good enough. This Saturday is going to show us if it was the coaching team of Culverhouse and Kasra as the problem or it may well show that this squad is just not good enough for this league

      1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
        OohAhPaulMcGrath

I’d rather have £30m to spend with a good manager than a £100m to spend with that mumbling fuckwit in charge

Pulis has done a fantastic job at Palace. I don’t think anyone’s saying otherwise. I just hate the way Stoke played, and ultimately so did their own fans. No doubt we would be safe under Pulis and have a better home record, but that’s not going to satisfy fans for more than a season or so before it all kicked off again.
If there is a change of manager I think it needs to be someone more exciting. And who like that would take the job?

I am still waiting for the inspiring football to make me renew. When I married 13 years ago I managed to persuade my wife to switch her support from Ipswich to Villa but the thought of buying her a very expensive Trinity Rd seat next to me evaporated when she game to a dreary game and on returning home to Surrey said “why have we driven 250 miles to watch that?” It was a good question then, it would be unanswerable now.

I am not sure if I will go to Spurs. After the bright starts at Arsenal and Stamford Bridge Villa’s London performances have got worse with every game. It is hard to see them playing worse than at ghastly Selhurst Park, but if they play as badly the score could be painful.

As for the Scottish U-21 coach. What! Scotland U-21 could not beat Bournemouth. I would rather see Ernie Howe replace Lambert. At least he is tactically sound.

    I’m very disappointed in this comment from Sid;

“The manager is a winner, a football man through and through. He knows what he needs in order for the team to go and perform and win.”

You could have fooled me, looking at his crap record for us.
We certainly haven’t performed for most of the season and we haven’t won much either.

I know it’s a case of putting the club first and seen to be saying the right things, but that comment is a joke, imo.
