Aston Villa are no closer to confirming a new manager and this means that interim coach Kevin MacDonald will continue managing Aston Villa in there game against Tottenham on Monday and Manchester City the following week. Originally, the Villa board wanted to have a new manager in place for Villa’s game against Tottenham, but issues have arisen with Remi Garde’s staff being tied to other clubs. Garde remains Villa main target and the club will continue discussions between Garde and his staff to try and agree a consensus. Now, Villa’s chief executive Tom Fox wants to hire a new manager before the home game against Everton on November 21st.
I can’t decide whether or not delaying our new manager is a good thing or bad thing. Some say that delaying Garde’s (or a different managers) arrival will be good for Villa because our next two fixtures against Tottenham and City are very difficult and it’s better to have a new manager against more winnable teams (Everton and Watford). On the other hand you want the new manager to have as much time as possible with the players so they can start to learn his philosophies and style of play.
Nonetheless, the League Cup game Aston Villa looked more solid tactically and had more shots on target than Southampton. Again our goals conceded where down to individual errors with little fault of Kevin MacDonald.
Possibly & that’s a big possibly under a decent GK coach he could iron out his weaknesses ie kicking & positioning cus he ain’t a bad shot stopper which really GKing is all about.
Where’s all this about announcement being given on new manager? It’s still in the air, they cannot settle with the french club.I can see us going for Pearson soon.

This Garde saga is doing my nut in so having a little look round the net and ok I’m no employment law expert but from what I’m reading it appears regardless of what Jean-Michel Aulas has to say he can’t stop them if they decide to up sticks and move to VP.
Should they do just that it seems there are then two options open to him, to claim for –
(A) Breach of contract – by the manager.
(B) Inducement to breach the contract – by the club obtaining his services.

With regards to their contracts with Lyon they’ve both recently signed three tear deals taking then through to 2019,so if they want to come and if Randy wants them then he’s simply going to have to dig deep.

Exactly right they can just walk if really want to ok it’s breach of contract but Lerner will pay compensation. Which tells me either A) they don’t want the job or B) Garde is undecided. He’s got nothing to lose though as he’s not leaving another club. The job is a poisoned chalice
BWS – my understanding is (depending on the contract wording) that the employer can legitimately prevent the person in breach (employee) of taking up another position for a period of time – albeit they would have to continue paying their salary. Despite what the contract stipulates the period of ‘restraint’ would have to be reasonable insofar as not materially affecting their future opportunity to secure work. That has certainly been my personal experience and understanding under English law – on two occasions I was put on ‘gardening leave’ of 6 months and 12 months when leaving a company – my understanding is 12 months is about the maximum period. Again I stress I’m not a lawyer or expert on employment contracts.
I’m sure money talks tell me when it doesn’t it in football????I’m sure an amicable agreement will be reached between both parties sooner the better.

Legally under the contract they can enforce your notice period as long as it’s reasonable. This is what happened to me because I was in a senior position and they didn’t want me going to a competitor before securing my clients. As they don’t want you to go into work either they put you on ‘Gardening Leave’ – effectively you get a paid holiday.
In this case Lyon could just say non to effectively terminating the contracts of employment and block their move. They would probably have to replace them and put them out to pasture for a period. They could do it – whether they would if offered sufficient compensation is anybody’s call and I stress I’m assuming French and English employment laws are similar.
I should also say that the contract must stipulate gardening leave as having been agreed by both parties. Because it can be seen as a restraint if trade it has to be limited to a reasonable prriod despite the length of contract signed – in my case I was on a three year contract because they wanted to tie me to their business for a minimum period having just acquired mine. It has similarities with football contracts and of course compensation cuts both ways.
Agree but you cannot stop anyone from just walking out and breaching contract. All you can do is sue them big deal. Lerner will get laser red up and they will settle out of court where’s the problem
Everyone and everything has a price. If the club wants Garde and Garde wants these men I am sure something will happen.
I read somewhere that Lyon have a big Champions League game mid next week – a make or break game. If true, the rumors of not having a new manager until after 3 games makes sense. Why would the Lyon owner risk ruin in the CL by sucking the moral out of the club before the game. It makes more sense to me that these long standing employees of the club would want to leave on good terms too. Say they put in their request to leave this week that would mean they gave two weeks notice which is pretty standard by any business? To be honest I have no idea what to believe regarding these assistants, but I am sure the club will be able to get them in the end.
If garde is that good he will join us without them. Back room staff are so overrated imo they are usually yes men for the managers and he is comfortable with. Dosnt mean they are good coaches.
Overrated. Didn’t O’Neill rely largely on his assistants to coach our side in training as he rarely went himself? Backroom staff are incredibly important and need to be trusted by the manager.

To be honest i will be happy if this falls through, as i believe its a huge gamble as he has no premier league experience, i am not saying he is a bad manager just its a gamble we cant afford to take at this time, and i would go for moyes or similar..

Moyes is just as big of a risk and he just bought a house in Spain and is quite happy there. Why should the club pay to get him in?
Personally I think the club just needs someone who is competent, tactically astute, and willing to work with the club and all of it’s players – not just the British ones. We are in a hole but we need everyone to play, not just the few bygone ones – Sherwood tried it and that is why we are 20th right now.
The problem is when people are arguing for “premier league experience” they think of Fergie, Mourinho, Wenger, Martinez, Benitez – problem is all of these aren’t realistic, most are foreign, and none are available. So if you ask me if it is an option of getting a really quality manager from abroad or Moyes (MON) / Pearson (Mix of PL and Sherwood) and I will take the quality manager from abroad every time.

I think Spurs are a solid team but they are beatable unfortunately not by us. Having said that the best obvious tactic is to put one of our centre halves or defensive midfielders to man mark Kane then play 10 a side. A great Ron Atkinson tactic that worked well in a lot of games.
Hitchens I admire the positive thinking but I think we beat spurs last time we played them. Don’t your ember that game we won in Sherwoods rein?

Well he was pegged for a Directors role at Arsenal a few years ago. I’m sure at some stage he will end up at Arsenal again, but let’s get him in first and then worry about him becoming too successful.

It is a big “what if” – personally I think you may be getting ahead of yourself. All that matters right now is that he is able to come in and do the job needed of him, which is keep us up. As long as he does so respectfully, I can’t fault players or manager who overachieves and goes on to bigger and better things.
As for Wenger picking our manager, I doubt it. I’m sure he put a good word in for him when Fox called him during the process but Garde isn’t a new name. Since leaving Lyon he has been linked to a host of positions, most recently the Newcastle job. Plus Andrew is right, he has a host of near connections to the club – the biggest being his connection to Houllier whom I assume is still in contact with the club and being a former Arsenal player.
Seeing we started looking at him before Wenger piped in about him shows we aren’t listening to Wenger. We want Garde because of his closeness to Houllier, who Lerner was close too.

He injured himself again last week, but things aren’t always better when you move clubs. I can’t fault him for wanting to move and achieve something, but Rodgers got the sack and he has been injured quite a bit this season. He is still young and has a ton of talent, but sooner or later Klopp’s eyes may be forced to look elsewhere for a more reliable striker. Shame if it happens though.

You could argue the other way with the progress Klopp has made though.
Mourinho seems to have lost the plot though – still a quality manager – but he threw his staff under the bus (Eva) and has lost the faith from not only the senior players but what seems to be part of the organization as well.
Don’t think pool are any better under Klopp tbh. Chelsea are woeful and teams like saints destroyed them 3.1 too. Last season under Rodgers when Cheksea were a good side I think he got a good draw at the bridge. Also any new manager has the bounce effect on the club when garde takes over we will be decent for half a dozen games then the rot will set in again. Cheksea are a shambles they actually look worse than us and that’s saying something.
Ps Cheksea were even lucky against us until Guzan gave them a goal we were the slightly better team. Take out our defensive errors and that was 0.0 all day long
