Is Lambert beginning to bore you with his quotes?

Following on from Paul Lambert’s comment in the Mirror today, where I read that he doesn’t think we play the long ball (contrary to the fact that we have the most knock-downs in the prem up to now and Mourinho, AVB and even us fans are saying it), we have the following quote;

“You need to win your home games.

“We seem to be doing it the other way round winning away from home which is harder and is strange.

“It is something we know we have to put right.

“We don’t set our stall out any differently.

“We try to win every game and I am sure it will come.

“The law of averages say it will turn.

“We get too many fans to come and watch us to sit back.

“We never set our stall out to go and defend.”

I’d agree, we don’t set our stall out any differently.
We play the same counter attacking game, with a long ball to Benteke at every opportunity.
Except Benteke is now out for a while.

We bypass the midfield and don’t seem to want to play it out from the back either.
Not that I see that as totally bad, as it can work quite well.
Just ask the likes of West Ham etc.

But what happened to the football that Lambert was supposed to espouse?

It seems it’s gone out of the window to me.

And no, we don’t set our stall out to defend.
Because we can’t defend, full stop.

And erm, we invariably end up sitting back, because we don’t have enough in the midfield, because of the way we play.

I don’t know how to put my finger on it, but my experience says that when you think the manager is talking total rubbish, it’s usually the case that he’s clutching at straws.

You can make what you want out of that last sentence.
I haven’t drawn any conclusions yet, apart from the fact that Lambert looks like a hamster in that picture.

Maybe he’s storing up the good stuff?

“We don’t set our stall out any differently…”

Which in a nutshell is the problem Paul! Away tactics for home games is never going to be very successful.

he’s not the greatest orator is he?
I remember last season when we were deep in the shit and listening to him mutter time and time again ‘we’ll take our medicine and go again’ was beginning to drive me insane.
can guarantee any interview post match will consist of some player being ‘unplayable today’ if we win and ‘delighted with the performance’ win, loose or draw and there’s always a ‘couldn’t fault the effort’ in there some where. truth is I don’t listen to much of what he says, its all really quite dull, I hope it turns less dull on the pitch.
which bring me nicely onto the long ball business, ive been surprised to see so much of it and is it me but we weren’t doing that last season so much was we? the idea as badger said of us playing out of defence seems to have totally evaporated. hope this changes

Oh my god yes. He makes the same statements over and over, and takes no blame. He’s sounding so much like McLeish, “we don’t set up to defend”, those were the exact same things McLeish said “we don’t go out to defend, this isn’t a McLeish style of play”. I’m just waiting for Lambert’s comments “I didn’t tell them to sit back”.

We’ll be fine, I’m not going to dwell on past results cause they’ve gone, we’ll pick the lads up and go again.

If you got paid millions of pounds a year for being a mumbling stuttering fuck like lambert you would be more than happy to have anything shoved in your face even a mike 🙂

Honestly couldn’t give a shit what he says after the match! That’s not what he really thinks, he just doesn’t like the media anybody can see that, so he gives nothin away and just lets them get on with it, seriously what do u want him to say when we lose? That we are shit, we’re goin down, the players are useless? No wonder none of these so called fans aren’t the manager because they would be gone the same way as Di canio, but the long balls are pissing me off, we are playing it long much more than last year and i don’t know why, maybe he knows the midfield isn’t good enough to play possession football but if so why not address it in the transfer window? And playing the ball into bentekes feet last season is where we got most our goals not his head! Its a strange one but hopefully it changes.

I reckon you might be right there Kerry he certainly don’t give anything away does he.
im thinking the same with the long ball game, we’re just not good enough to play through the team and would get disposed very quickly, it needs addressing big time imo.
