Aston Villa have agreed a transfer fee with Lille for midfielder Idrissa Gueye (25 years). Gueye is set to fly out to Birmingham today to undergo a medical and agree personal terms. But the main headline is that the transfer agreed is £9 million, making Gueye our biggest signing since Charles N’Zogbia. Gueye is also a very good player, he is described as a defensive box-to-box midfielder that could get the best out of Delph and Grealish. Gueye is essentially a replacement for Tom Cleverly who left for Everton.
Lille fans themselves have said that they’d be upset to lose Gueye who they highly rate and believe that he is firmly worth between £12-14 million. In more statistical terms, he was Whoscored 16th best player in the Ligue 1 last season. Gueye is a hardworking player who has great stamina and fitness as he made 32 appearances for Lille last season and has been compared to Claude Makélélé.
Aston Villa would beat the likes of Crystal Palace, Newcastle and Southampton as they also eyed for Gueye’s signature. But overall this would be a fantastic signing for Aston Villa and a very crucial one as well. It has been a long time since Aston Villa have splashed out this much cash and this would be another excellent signing alongside Richards. It appears as the tabloid links have been incorrect because Sherwood has so far scouted some very exciting players. Let’s just hope that all goes smoothly and Gueye becomes an Aston Villa player.
