Hull Tigers V Villa Lions; a preview. Oh, Cleverley too.

I’m sure I don’t need to tell anyone how big a game this is.
But the fact is a lot rides on it, as it really could be a season defining game.

It’s quite simple for me.
If we can win this one, it might bode well in giving us a real confidence boost ahead of what would normally be some very winnable games that follow.

But if we lose, you have to wonder how much it will affect a side that already seem incredibly low in confidence, especially when it comes to the attack side of our game.

Enough of telling you what you already know though, so on to squad news;

I don’t think we have any major problems now, do we?
Vlaar’s fit and could well start, if Lambert feels he’s sharp enough.
And of course, Benteke is also available after being dropped on Saturday. I’d play him in this one, personally.

As for Hull, they have new signing Dame N’Doye available and striker Nikica Jelavic might be ready for a return after his knee injury.

Thoughts?
Well, I didn’t see the Man City – Hull game, so the question is did Hull get lucky or actually play well when they got that point? From what I’ve read, they played pretty well at the back and put in a resolute display.
But the important point is, they seemed dejected after City equalised.
Which could prove telling.
In my opinion, a lot will boil down to which side feel more up for it.
How much did Okore’s goal mean to us against Chelsea? And did it give us any extra confidence?

The truth is, I can’t see past a draw, either 0-0 or 1-1.

I just don’t believe the way we play will lead to us beating Hull. We always seem to do poorly against the teams around us after all, don’t we?
Although, in fairness with two wins in something like twenty, you could probably say we don’t do well against anyone.
And I don’t believe Lambert has enough about him to pull anything out of the bag, as in trying something different, to get the result.

I’d actually take that draw, something I can hardly believe I’m saying, but that’s what we’re down to.

I see Lambert has been defending Cleverley today.
My view’s fairly straightforward there. While I appreciate that the manager should defend his players, how Cleverley, who has played lots of games, gets a start over Bacuna, who has actually created something in his rare appearances, is just beyond me.
Cleverley has had lots of time to get into the swing, but he’s been awful in going forward.
Unless the priority is just to stop the opposition scoring.
In which case he’s only been poor.

He needs dropping, the same as Lambert is quick to drop others, even though they’ve offered way more.

It’s no wonder I want Lambert out.

  1. randy must be shitting his pants . And to think it all rides on lambert . you couldn’t make this shit up. if we go down the one good thing will be to know the yank has lost a fortune. it would break my heart but knowing he has lost millions would at least make me laugh for a few seconds until the numbness kicked in . fuck the yank !

  2. Is it just me shitting myself tonight or what? FFS we’re playing Hull in a midweek league It feels like a cup final.

Benteke out Sinclair in for cleverly.

  3. HULL: McGregor, Bruce, Meyler, Huddlestone, Brady, Livermore, McShane, Jelavic, Dawson, Elmohamady, N’Doye. Subs: Harper, Davies, Hernandez, Ramirez, Aluko, Robertson, Quinn.

VILLA: Guzan, Hutton, Okore, Clark, Cissokho, Westwood, Delph, Gil, Sinclair, Agbonlahor, Weimann. Subs: Given, Vlaar, Bacuna, Cleverley, Benteke, Sanchez, Cole.

      1. we guessed the lineup, but dropping benteke could be a mistake, other than that, i like team more attacking, he had to go for it.

1 , 3 villa but i am starting to worry lol

    1. What is the formation? is he playing 442, 451 or 433? I think he needs to play 2 holding mids, and 2 wide mids with Gil playing behind a striker (preferably Benteke). I can’t imagine what formation he is playing with these starting players…

  4. lambert’s risking his job on this decision, no benteke no danger to hull, very strange decision

    1. Sinclair out right, gabby out left and Weimann up the middle with Gil behind as good as we got

    2. To wide men to put over the crosses and no big fella in the centre to get on the end of them. Benteke must be spitting feathers.

      1. just doesn’t make sense does it. we play benteke without a supply line, now the teams got the wingers on and no benteke

          1. say tonight ends bad, you made a decent point yesterday, you said lerner missed the boat with pulis, who else is out there, who could come in and do a similar rescue job. all day i have tried to think of a decent name without luck

negative thoughts are bouncing around the head, time for these players to stand up

        1. Listening to the Spanish football expert on talkshite this afternoon and he reckoned this Paco Jemez from Rayo Vallecano Brentford are looking at is the dogs.
Works on a shoestring, his teams play great football and he’s very ambitious.

        2. Just a change of subject anyone seen new sky deal no wonder Lerners not selling no chance now.

          1. It was said earlier mate ÂŁ100m for the bottom club, he must be kicking himself for not putting his hand in his pocket in Jan.

          2. i agree oohaha and if we lose tonight, i think lerner will be forced to sack lambert. he will have to ??? won’t he ??

eddie howe is the only name i could come up with but i doubt he would risk us

  5. Two wide players to supply the service to our goalscoring………..oh, Agbonlahor and Weimann. Time they stepped up to the plate.

  6. Lambert going 4-4-2 it looks like nut keeps benteke on the bench for gabby? He has really lost the plot benteke has needed players around him all season this is the game to get him and weimann up front together! And sanchez should be on for either delph or Westwood he is better than both! I’m really starting to despise lambert

  7. dsvilla
gabbys stepped up to his plate too often
tv deal up 70 percent lerner must be shaking now when he see s what he is going to lose

      1. Hull 1 villa 0. Lerner will sack lamberk now as he can afford to with new sky deal

  8. I think when ko comes weimann will be right mid Sinclair left mid with gil floating around behind gabby. If so it’s bollocks.
weimann centre forward with a partner or shouldn’t be on the pitch.

  9. Sinclair left, Gil right and Gabby and Weimann up front, in a simple 4-4-2 I’d have thought?????

    1. Badger almost the team I wanted to see so can’t criticise. However, posters on here wanted change, wanted Cleverley dropped but they still aren’t happy. Now what’s the word I’m looking for – ah that’s it FICKLE. :-). 🙂

      1. I agree, it’s the team I pretty much wanted, but think Benteke should have been on instead of Gabby, but we’ll see.
        COYL!

  10. NBC commentary just called Gabby n Weimann Lazy forwards. How is it everyone but Lambert can see it. Zero movement when in final third.

      1. I hope Lerner is shitting himself right now after the announcement about the next increase in TV money! Tosser.

        1. He will sack him now as he can afford to and def won’t want relegation now to protect his investment. Expect the next 5 years to be with lerner and U.S. Staying up on the cheap

  11. Look at Qpr playing well its that because the got rid of the manager wake up Lerner sack lambert

  12. Doesn’t matter a fuck what they do from here on in. A total show of shite the lot of them. From the chairman right down to the players. Fuck the premier league, fuck the fa cup and fuck off Aston Villa football club. Sorry guys for that but I now really hope they are relegated. I would love it. That’s what they have done to me. 30 odd years supporting and never ever felt so low. My 8 year old kid has just said to me that maybe we might win some games in the championship !

    1. Agree mate it’s appalling. Iv lost interest in the whole of prem now over priced and overrated. We deserve to go down no one can deny it.

    2. Whilst I agree with most of what you said, I’d still rather the Prem to Championship. Once our better players left, we’d be left with a shite Championship squad!

      1. Better players ? Their all fucking shite. We have been fed that much shite this last few years we are now expected to pin our hopes on a young Spanish kid. We claim to have a great youth set up yet fail to produce any good players. Spuds have Harry Kane and we have Grealish. Grealish will disappear to championship level before soon. (As will we !)

  13. What utter cack!! Gabby n Weimann a disgrace. Does Delph terrify anyone else with his turns on our own defensive 3rd? He’ll lose one soon enough!!
