History sadly repeating itself

If you had told me 8 years ago we would be in the same position in 2014 I would have laughed at you but here we are.

To remind you that in Jan 2006 Doug Ellis appointed Rothschilds to see what was out there and it was the first indication he was going. However on July 19th David O’Leary was sacked and we had this

Aston Villa has retained Rothschild, the investment bank, to advise on “a number” of takeover bids lodged for the UK football club.

At this time Lerner was known plus if you remember Padfield, Neville and many others. Lerner ‘won’ it in the end and we all thought bright future, sadly not.

Note today Lerner’s statement said appointed Merrill to ‘advise on a sale’ ….

Well is that not the same as above, Merrill’s have not been appointed to find a buyer but finalise the sale of the club as Rothschilds did in 2006.

And Doug Ellis is still at Villa !

Merrill Lynch are vetting 4 prospective buyers, it might be a little quicker than we thought and lets hope so !

    1. The quicker the better imo, the last thing we need is this to drag on over a protracted period leading last minute panic buys or being left with this piss poor team / squad come next August heaven forbid.

      1. BWS….blow me a kiss please 🙂

        1. Oh stop it you’re embarrassing me (-:

        Red Bull?
Could have been a smokescreen, I guess.

      2. Andrew avatar

Red Bull. Forgot about them. Could be the reason we’re linked to Saint Etienne’s manager with Houllier high up at Red Bull and such.

  4. Oohah and Badger..pay attention 🙂

    1. Andrew avatar

Darn… I forgot. I’d choose them personally. We could build the oldest squad ever assembled!

      1. If Kraft bought us would that be a ‘Mature’ squad?

        1. Am I still the new manager. I am very ambitious.

My aim is to get this great club into the top 15 of the conference by 2023.

          🙂
          BWS…mature squad? Are you crackers?

          1. That’s Ritz coming from you.

          2. Lol….. David Jacobs 🙂

        2. If Kraft got it we would get cheap chocolates Bill.

Actually ignore that Andrew the owner of craft only worth 2.3 billion dollars not much more than Lerner. Not enough me thinks

          1. Andrew avatar

It’s a fair bit more though. Plus they have a strong history in the sport in the MLS and have done big things as of late with the Revolution. Would you rather someone worth 10 billion who knows nothing, or someone worth near 3 billion knowing a hell of a lot?

        2. Kraft worth are a German electronic music band formed by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider in 1970 in Düsseldorf.

  5. I hope Hugh heffner gets into the mix it’ll bring some glamour back to the game.

    1. Lol Giddy 🙂

Reading Wednesday’s gonna be a very important day for Villa.

    1. Andrew, why?

      1. Andrew avatar

Don’t know, someone told me they heard Wednesday’s going to be an important day. No, I’m not in the know either, just what I’ve read on facebook/someone else told me.

        1. Andrew avatar

Oh and plus didn’t Newcastle cancel their end of the season dinner because Lambert was quitting to join us? interesting, no?

U mean Norwich? Maybe Lambert just gets really pissed at this type of event and starts fights with everyone…lol!

          2. Andrew avatar

Yeah was talking about Newcastle with a friend and their links to Weimann and Delph, must’ve had them on the mind, but I meant Norwich.

“On a practical level, the club will continue with its normal operations and plans for the summer. I’ve no doubt that the core staff at both Villa Park and BMH, to whom I owe a massive debt of friendship and loyalty, will continue to guide and protect the club through this period of transition according to their collective sense of professional pride and long-term service to Villa – the vast majority having preceded my tenure.”

Does that read as if anything was about to happen imminently? Not to me…

  8. if my understanding of this malarkey are right about six weeks ago someone close to the club mentioned that may3rd something big was happening at villa park at the time i never imagined it would take that long for us to get guaranteed survival, but if we believe all the rumors of a possible takeover being dependent on survival. well this same person has divulged that the auditors moved into villa park that evening. now part of any negotiations would be a no disclosure agreement and with all the due diligence and good repute criteria to be met before any announcement can be made i think that it will take about 30 days

When I heard the news, I was immediately under the impression that we’re nowhere near a sale.
But having heard Ian’s argument, the point about Faulkner leaving is a good one.
Who’s going to be running the club?

    and then I read this;
“the vast majority having preceded my tenure”.
That smells strongly of Ellis to me!

But then I read that Merryl Lynch are vetting 4 prospective buyers.
Where has that nugget come from?
If that’s true, it has to be good news and would indicate a sale is imminent or at least before the new season starts.

We can’t be left in no man’s land now and a sale has to go through fairly soon.
I suspect that Lerner knows this and his statement is indeed a fairwell.

I’d expect a deal to go through in the next few weeks, before we’re forced to allow Lambert to spend the required money to try and keep us up next season.

      Lambert is gone

Good point on the staff and too many are not good enough and never were. New owner needs a complete clear out.

On BBC midlands region earlier they said it will take few days to announce new owner. Read into that what you like.

So, let me get this right……Villa is sold, but is not sold but have 4 offers and we will hear more between a few days and the end of NEXT season.
This is what I’m getting from these threads and social media. Bloody rumours.

    1. Badger123 avatar
      Badger123

Not really rumours, just discussion, which throws up possible scenarios.
Any of which could be right or wrong.

      I don’t know what you’re moaning about.
If it wasn’t for this, we’d have nothing to talk about for the next couple of months, totally stupid transfer speculation apart.

At least this makes a change mate.

    2. Andrew avatar

To be fair, if Lerner knew he wasn’t gonna be able to find a buyer, would he actually have said anything? Of course not.

    3. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

All rumours it could be weeks, months or years before anything happens I’m afraid. Don’t be surprised to see Lerner at the helm next season but possibly with a different manager

  12. Andrew avatar

Funniest thing is, Lambert claimed he was going to go to the dinner as he bought a 3 pound bow tie… Now he can’t.

    1. Andrew avatar

Maybe I’m just easily amused though.

  13. there’s a bow tie on ebay starting bid £2.95

History is also repeating itself from 2 years ago! We just about escaped relegation with 2 games to go. We have a rubbish Scottish manager that all the fans are singing to be sacked. We also cant score goals and cant stop conceding them! DEJA FUCKING VU!! haha
