Adam….its probably because Randy wont fimance a move for a top class keeper. So lets make sure that we have a regular and experienced defence in front of him. Guzan is NOT as bad as some make him out it to be IMO. It didnt help last season in that nearly every game we had a different backline.A goalkeeper and defenders need stability! Its a real mystery to me how so many of our defenders get injured on a regular basis. If we can get the same back 4 playing 15-20 consecutive games then our defence and keeper will perform far better.

Langford bang on the nail, Sherwood hasn’t been given the pocket money he thought he was getting, getting linked with an £8m keeper but get a free transfer, getting linked with £8m defenders and midfielders will get Holgate for around £800k…. We only got Gueye, because he thought we had sold Delph…. Lets just hope these new owners come quickly.

He wasn’t number one keeper in the final run in of the season, but now he’s our first choice keeper now hmmmm.so there’s no improvement on what we had last season???that’s Lerner make do with the tools you have.class

Yes, I get the feeling that Randy is not going to spend much again. If/when Benteke goes then we wont even get half the proceeds to sign a replacement IMO.The austerity measures will continue whilst Randy is our owner
More miracles needed again to survive…..its a very sad, but not unexpected state of affairs!

Another season of struggle then. Guzan is old enough now to be set in his ways. Those ways are not good enough for a mid table EPL side so Villa will continue to be hamstrung by the concession of cheap goals. So it is down to praying for a miracle – that one of his young understudies suddenly blossoms into a first rate keeper.

Successful teams start at the back.

I have to say I don’t agree with the general consensus here. I think we will spend £15-20M plus the Benteke cash (if he goes). It does seem that the links regarding Amavi have some substance. If we have made the offer indicated in the press that confirms that we are not just in the £0-1M area. I also don’t believe that Gueye was a replacement for Delph. If Lerner wants to spend zilch he would wait until Delph was signed by City and then sanction a replacement. Buying the replacement ahead of selling a player would just be stupid.

Yes £50M (if we sell Benteke for the full £32.5M). Now won’t you be a happy bunny if I’m right? 😉

Stuck with the other Yank too. The 150M Villa sale is off. Now there were two consortia nosing around, we were told, and only one was given exclusivity, but they have dropped their interest. Am I alone in wondering if there was any serious intention on Lerner’s part to sell? I think there were various American Jewish men interested in a fire sale, but nobody serious about paying the right price. The non-American consortium is the one that has backed down.

Frankly I view 150M as a steal, even Bournemouth would be a bargain at that price with the current TV income. It is only 3 Sterlings.

It was all bollox imo to sell season tickets. It will be the same next year. Lerner has spent a bit more to be fair so far but that is probably the benteke money when we sell him so false economy

OLL – £150m might be ‘a steal’ – but any normal financial investor would want to know what sort of return they could expect for putting-up that sort of money.

Personally I don’t believe that most clubs, at least those outside the CL places, will provide much real return; all that happens whenever the TV income goes up is that players/agents etc, just take more out of the game.

How can Gareth Bale be worth nearly as much as Villa?! Doesn’t make sense!
