Fulham Join Bent Race

Darren Bent has been linked with Newcastle for weeks now, however  it’s rumoured that Newcastle don’t want to pay the £5-6 million fee that Aston Villa are demanding. Or Newcastle are yet to table an offer for the forward, what-ever it is; progress is very slow.

It appears as though Fulham are set to join the race for Darren Bent. Fulham have recently been bought by Shahid Khan and Martin Jol is confident that the new owner will back the manager in a move to bring Bent to Craven Cottage. Jol is looking for a forward to partner Berbatov and want’s to re-unite with the former Spurs man. Fulham are set to open the bidding at £5 million, hopefully this will persuade Newcastle to bid more.

It’s good that there is some genuine interest in Bent, he is a top scorer in the Premier League. I’m just a bit upset that it’s taking this long to sort out a deal. I’m confident that Bent will leave, it’s believed that he wants to lower his wages in return for first team football.

I agree. It is good there is genuine interest. Need this transfer to go ahead ASAP to make a move in the market ourselves.

Is there any links for us with new players? Seems to have gone quiet.

Aston Villa have only really been linked with that Serbian player.

From what I understand, Lambert can’t spend until we sell a few more players. Bent is close to a permanent move, Hutton and Given close to a season-long loan away from Aston Villa.

No one appears to be interested in Ireland and Bannan

Bent wants to go back to London, so Fulham would fit the bill nicely and they can afford the wages. I believe he wasn’t settled in the north east when at Sunderland, so I don’t see him joining Newcastle.
£5-6m sounds about right for the fee

If Bent was keen on taking a dramatic pay cut, I have him at Villa still. The problem being Lambert has made his intentions clear and to do a u-turn on that decision would make him look a bit of a pillock.

I think Bent is easily worth 8mil. 5-6mil will be a bargain for whoever might get him at that price.

Have read in one paper on the net that Bent had already signed for Nooky Browns. So Fulham must have come in with a late bid.

  5. bent is a world class babyliner ~trouble is, not many teams can afford the luxury of a player, who only touches the ball 2 tap in from 2yards out and thats his only contribution.

who ever gets bent will be getting a bargin, still a top class striker imo.
I reckon he will do well wherever he goes.

What is taking so long with these transfers?!!

  8. I reckon other teams are waiting till as late as possible to try and get Bent on the cheap. I personally don’t think Lambert will let him go unless the valuation that he’s put on him is met. Lambert is a stubborn fucker…..clearly.

  9. B6…. Lambert is a ‘stubborn fucker’…. Thats very negative mate! 🙂

    1. Stubborn is good in this case mate. 😉

I liked Darren Bent, a genuine two footed striker and he earned every penny of his fee in keeping villa up when he was brought in. A great buy for any premier club at even 8 million. Wish he could stay but every manager has their own way of playing his squad and Darren obviously doesnt fit the new mould. All the best to him.

Agree Ronno wish we were keeping him he’s not as bad as we make out

That’s true, if I was a promoted side I’d definitely bid for Bent and perhaps Bannan. Would strengthen any side if I’m honest.

  11. BTW… new Villan born today. Congrats to William and Kate…. Wouldnt it be great if they called him Aston!… Online petition anybody? 🙂

    1. Aston would be cool but don’t you think “…..online petition anybody” is a little long for a middle name? 🙂

      1. Lol….. Yes it would 🙂

Just spotted the foul language. So wont post or read here again.

    1. You got off lightly then if that’s all you spotted!! 🙂

  13. I personally think Fulham will suit bent perfectly. I have a feeling if he goes there he will score 12+ this season. Not a bad return for 6 mil. Great for us to get a player on high wages who clearly is surplus to requirements off the wage bill too. Just Given and Ireland to go after which would give us plenty of room for more transfers.

I get the feeling that we have done all our dealing in this window regards players coming in. Plan now is to get rid of those not in lamberts plans. If all can be got rid by end of this window it may have us in a position of strength to add a big player in January to push on second half of next season. Just my thoughts.

  15. anyone else think same as me that ~ andreas Weimann will b or already is better than darren bent at wot they do best, weimann is already a top finisher with great positioning, also will improve like a fine wine with these attributes, difference with weimann he works his socks off 4 the team while DB is innit 4 himself. just my opinion

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Think his workrate, and all round game is better than bent his finishing is good to but I think vents finishing is a more consistent as weimann misses a few sitters but that’s to he expected at this stage he will improve this season. Think weimann is the real deal though

    2. adam2231 avatar
      adam2231

Wiemann has terrific work-rates, energy and movement. Can also find his team-mates well.

However, he needs to work on his finishing. Weimann could easily have scored more goals last season, but missed some real howlers.

like this one u mean ~ all strikers miss occasionally plus weimann was kindoff wider positioned last year he would most definitely thrieve more up the middle

The sooner we can get the bomb squad off the books the sooner I think we’ll see a couple more signings before the end of the window, if it doesn’t happen I don’t think we’ll see anyone else.

I don’t understand why people are saying they’d like to keep Bent.

He won’t play second fiddle to Benteke, and Benteke scored more in one season than Bent has in 2 and a half for us.

Add to that Benteke’s hold up play and the fact he contributed to Gabby and Weimanns goal tally, i have to say, it’s a no brainer for me.

Yet a lot of you still complain.

    1. I’m with you Guest, ok we owe the guy a debt of gratitude but every dog has its day but that dogs days are long gone at VP.
Bents one dimensional play don’t fit in with PL’s plans, yes he score goals but imo his poor workrate always leaves you a player short.

      1. Guest avatar

It just seems to be another swipe at the club, as per usual.

This whole “Bent scores goals” thing, yes he does, but, Benteke scored more in his first season that Bent did in two and half, let’s think about that for a second, and assisted more, therefore, there is no argument for keeping Bent as i said before, he wont play second fiddle.

So to any of you moaning about keeping Bent, think on.

Don’t think there’s any doubt we would rather have Benteke but what if he got injured or had second season syndrome. I’m not saying he will but if it happened bent would be a great replacement. At the end of the day when Bent on his debut got that goal v man city we were all ecstatic me included and we all went on what a great buy he was. Ok we have a better all round striker now but that dosnt mean we have to turn against bent.

          1. Guest avatar

            OohAh, are you broken mate?

What part of “he will not sit on the bench and be second fiddle to Benteke” do you not understand?

Again, to clarify, HE WILL NOT SIT ON THE BENCH AND PLAY SECOND FIDDLE TO BENTEKE, THEREFORE, ONLY ONE CAN STAY AT THE CLUB.

            Is that clear enough?

            1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
              OohAhPaulMcGrath

Yep I get that guest I’m just saying dont knock the guy

          2. Guest avatar

            Who is knocking him?

You are only defending him because he’s out of favour with the club, i once remember you slating his style of play, you weren’t always his biggest fan, of course, now he has issues with the club he’s your new favourite player.

You’ll be defending Ireland next, oh wait …..

For what it’s worth, if he was happy to sit on the bench and was on half the wages, i’d keep him too, i imagine most fans would, but the fact is he’s on far too much money to warm the bench even if he was happy to do so, so it’s a non-starter.

So all i am saying is, don’t knock the club for selling him.

            1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
              OohAhPaulMcGrath

I’m not knocking club for selling him I agree if he was on less wages id keep him. Iv always been a bent if you read posts of past couple years iv always said he is limited but bottom line is he gets u a goal and that’s what we bought him for

          3. Guest avatar

Enough about your sex life mate, i don’t need to know the finer details 😉

I think you forget half the things you post, it was only a mere couple of weeks ago you were slating the club for not keeping him, and i asked you which clubs could afford to leave an 70k + a week player on the bench, to which you retorted ‘the Sky 4 can’.

This was in a week where you were heavily knocking the club left, right and center, and no matter how many times you play it down, you do always look for the spin.

im not so sure anyone is saying we should keep bent, its clear to anyone there is no place for him under the new regime.
people are just acknowledging he’s a great striker and im sure he will do well where ever he goes and I hope he does as long as he has a mare when he plays us but knowing football he’s bound to play a blinder clearing the ball off the line(like he did last season)only to run 90 yards and slot a goal of the season 98th minute winner giving his ‘new’ consistant 110% playing stile 😉
