Sorry lads, I’ve been busy doing my tax return and just haven’t had time to look at the site.
I see it was misbehaving earlier today (I suspect a dodgy database, which I sorted, but might have taken time to get through to the server), but now suspect it’s ok.
    Can anyone confirm please?

At the end of the day you can’t blame lerner, yes its him who has set the wage structure and transfer budget but its Lambert who makes the signings! He was given this budget at the start of the season, he spent every penny of it on squad players and didn’t sign any creative midfielder which anybody who has ever watched us knows we desperately need! Now in the summer i thought maybe the ones he wanted just weren’t available and i was willing to wait til Jan to see if either somebody in the squad to step up to the plate or if not we would buy one, instead we get holt on loan who could prove useful but who still hasn’t improved the 1st team and bertrand on loan which i think is a great signing as lb is a serious problem area for us (again Lamberts fault) so essentially the only player that has actually improved our team is a loan that Lambert has already said we probably won’t be signing permanently! I really don’t know why signing 8 squad players on 15k a week is better than signing 3 players on 40k who actually improve our team! I blame Lambert for all this not lerner.

“I really don’t know why signing 8 squad players on 15k a week is better than signing 3 players on 40k who actually improve our team! ”

Totally agreed, Kerry and it’s something some of us have been saying for ages.
But I blame Lerner (or most likely his bellend 2IC) for that policy.
I just struggle to believe that any manager wouldn’t want expensive quality, if he was given the chance.

Did anyone really expect anyone to come in?
Hoolihan was the only one in Lambert’s sights, imo.

As for anyone expecting a decent spend in the summer, no chance.
This is as good as it gets, you’ll see.
Probably £20-25 mill max outlay, I’ll bet, which is peanuts, given the rise in revenue the club will see.
And agreed, Lerner is still owed money.
But he won’t be for long.
I think some people forget he bought the club for pennies (Villa £69 mill, the shit £82 mill, iirc and they don’t even own their ground, let alone anything else).

      I’ll ask again.
Is the site working ok now?
It seems it is to me.

fine here with Win 8 and chrome

as to all the points, your right he brought it for a song and even if the debts were there he could sell and break even at around £150M

Question is anyone out there with that ?

Bearing in mind they do not have to spend on infrastructure to start with.

    You mean this bloke?

“In August 2006, Wallace was charged with a firearms offence.[26] Three months later he admitted being in possession of an airgun and was fined £1,500.[27] In May 2009, he was arrested and charged with breach of the peace outside Edinburgh nightclub “Lava & Ignite” after allegedly threatening to shoot the doormen.[28] However, this charge was later dropped and he was fined £1,100 for shouting abuse at the bouncers.”

Fuck me, what are we now, a halfway house???

I doubt that rumour’s true mate.

Cheers for letting me know about the site 🙂

We really needed a left back we got one who looks decent and will hopefully sign long term in the summer. This was a vital signing and not a luxury one

We signed an experienced forward who will push the young team on, help out the players and just add an edge to the squad that is lacking.

The one signing i would like to have seen is a CB, if Vlaar gets injured we will struggle.

An AM like Hoollahan would have given us a few extra points and an extra dimension on the pitch, but it has not happened.

Think we will be alright and will come somewhere between 9-15

Agree, Morgan, another CB would have been nice.
I still have the hunp over Grant though, myself.
It’s a total reversal in policy, but we still won’t lay any money out.
Which is probably why no-one will come in.
Lambert hinted at it, when talking about stupid wages, when in reality, the agents being talked about probably had the cheek to ask for the going rate for prem players.

Only teams to really upgrade themselves were Fulham and West Ham (maybe, Armero’s a good wing back but poor defensively, Borriello’s past it and Nocerino was poor for Milan). Other than that… Nothing big happened in the EPL.

Not a bad window for Villa, two loans in, two loans out and a free, that would be sod all on the loans and a saving of 1.500 million till July, Robo your bang on mate this is the road of off loading the club. I recognized that in May this year we will be told whose got our club. So lads its nail bite till May my money is on the Chinese. IMO.

Bill, if someone is coming in with a load of money wouldn’t they be looking at West Ham first of all? They’re moving to the Olympic stadium with all the current rail and tube links plus Crosslink coming in. There’s a huge demographic within easy travelling distance – including current West Ham and Leighton Orient fans – plus it’s in London. If I was coming in with a LOT of money I’d be considering London, although Villa would come in a close second because of the huge number of people in the area, plus no one has tapped into Birmingham yet. The worry of course is that it’s not someone with a LOT of money, but another Antonov or Venkey’s. I reckon there’s a lot more chance we’ll get someone juggling their finances and dropping a load of debt on the club than there is finding a Red Bull. I’m going to stay optimistic and hope we can have some more good matches this season, see the team improve, avoid the relegation zone and hope Lerner does have the best intentions for the club.

Foxy you maybe be right, London is to the rest of the world England in visitors eyes, but for industry Birmingham hold the key to what is coming , HS2 is now an interest to foreign investors, Landrover, Jaguar, factories are built for the markets abroad, I see Villa as an interest to the Asian billionaires as a goal to own, I know that games are coming but that’s not an every day thing. I could be wrong but that’s my outlook on things to come.

someone doing a match day post ~ i av 2 leave in 1hour
been reading evertons fans views this morning ~ they see us as a threat worried which villa will turn up, scared of the pace and the forward line,
they aren’t wrong if villa allow everton 2 dominate then it will be a tough afternoon, but if we play exactly the way we played pool of the pitch. diamond formation and brave we will walk this,
their defence is their weak link, benteke will batter the centre backs and they are wanting barry 2 shield their back four, if weimann stops him like he did gerrard, i can’t see us losing or drawing
i put a tenner on us other day and iam more confident 2 day

Lads with regards to why don’t we buy less players and give more wages rather than spread it over more players of less quality…

Well i am actually surprised you lot don’t know the answer to that..

IF a player on 10-20K is shite you can shift him easily.. a player on 40K no one will want touch.. ala Mr Hutton..

Lerner has had his fingers burnt so much he has thought sod that route and gone for the cheap route.. i DEF thing there is a 20K wage cap on new players.. PL can pay slightly more for a couple of he offsets it..

Sadly it just shows RL is clueless.. first went mad allowing third choice RB’s to be on 35K and then done a complete 360 and started paying championship wages..

BUT enough is enough.. four windows gone now.. this summer it HAS to be different..

lamberts done remarkably well reducing wages and invested on not quite finished articles~ but lion is rite 4 window gone ~ this summer we will see the plan hit phrase two. lambert did n’t just come to villa to buy cheaply again like norwich. he has ambitions~ i believe summer we will see better incomings more ” ready now 4 premier” type players

I am not expecting a major change in the summer. If we do finish around 10th (not a given I know) this will be seen as proof that the plan is working. A few minor additions to the squad and slight progression the next season from players who should have settled in will be seen as acceptable by the owners/manager.
It may be by that time we are not a million miles away from where we were at 6th under MON but not losing money hand over fist. However, that isn’t going to be enough for most fans.
It does pose the question. What do fans really expect of Aston Villa? Should we be aiming for top 10/top 6/top 4? I can’t see us, in any reasonable time frame, making 6th. 6th only brings Europa League and is that enough?
The alternative to me is Lerner gambling loads more for the highly unlikely aim of Top 4. I can’t see that happening.

The only chance of Villa getting anywhere near Top 4 is under a new hugely wealthy owner. I can’t see that happening either.

DsVilla, we should always aim as high as possible.
And personally I don’t think top 10 is high enough.

You can debate how big a club we are re attendances, income etc but whatever the outcome, I’d bet money we’d see ourselves higher than the 10th biggest club in the Prem.
I’d say that wherever you conclude our size to be in the Prem is where we should be aiming as an absolute minimum.
    Somewhat simplistic, but logical imo.

Agree Badger. I see us as 7/8 at the moment, with the potential to get a place or two higher. And that is my point really. We may well be able to get to 6th without spending large sums. If we do spend quite a bit we still wont get any higher than that. That’s the dilemma really. I don’t think most on here would settle for that level, they would be calling for more investment, let’s push for top 4 etc. Just not going to happen IMO.
