Confirmed; Bruce Stays!

Good grief, what is Edens wearing!
I heard this while watching the BBC local news and have to say straight off that I believe it’s the right decision for the club, if maybe not for our footy.

I tried to read the statement on the OS, but of course, the site timed out.
What do they use for broadband, I wonder; steam?
It’s probably BT.

Apart from the decision being right, I also believe it’s the moral thing to do, after the news came about that Thierry Henry had agreed to take over as manager.
For what it’s worth, I believe that story was probably true. I’ve no doubt Henry had agreed in principal to take over if indeed the new majority owners decided to change manager.
And I’d bet that this sort of thing happens all the time, in the background.
But we don’t usually get to hear about it, as the unwritten rule is that you never discuss someone’s job while they’re still in it.
Which is where I have to ask myself who leaked the story to the press?

I very much doubt it would be any of the owners, as that’s just not the way sucessful people do business.
So my pure guess is that it’s come from Henry’s advisor.
And actually might have shot Henry’s chances in the foot, in the short term anyway.
You only have to read the criticism on here and other sites about how the whole thing was just wrong.

But not only is it the morally correct thing to do, it just makes sense.
Bringing in a totally inexperienced manager, this late on would have been a massive mistake.

And then there’s the amount of money it would cost the club to sack Bruce, which was anywhere upwards of £1.5 million, if the press are to be believed.
Having thought about it, that contract payment still doesn’t make sense.
Why would you have a one year rolling contract, if it involves another six months severance pay on top?
Answer, you wouldn’t.
That’s the whole point. After each year, the contract is looked at again and if either party is unhappy, it’s terminated.

Which is quite handy for the owners, given that Bruce’s contract runs out in October.
It’s gives them time to see how Bruce gets on.
And if he looks to be failing, they can sack him, safe in the knowledge that Henry will probably be sat on the sidelines and they’re not seen to be totally ruthless, in bringing in an unexperienced manager, while not giving Bruce a chance.

Being totally pragmatic, it’s a win-win for the club.
But I genuinely hope Bruce gets us off to a flyer, as that’s all that matters.
But trying to play better footy would probably help his cause too.

Relief – now is not the time to take a gamble. We desperately need to continue in a stable environment. The team respect Bruce and he’s cured the toxic dressing room and reunited the club and fans.

After such a difficult year for him personally he deserves this opportunity to deliver promotion.

Mind you, it does raise the question – where does this media hysteria originate?

Relieved, don’t know the in and out but hey good news. No one should be put through what he has, ok give him time look at the situation then act accordingly.

I had a feeling that it was all media driven. Trying to assume new owners means a new manager, and hey Henry wants to be a manager. We never actually saw any official quotes, just pure speculation. Probably a bluenose reporter trying to disrupt our preparations! Glad for Bruce and the team to get that nonsense put to one side. I stated that we need to be in top six by end of November otherwise it might be then we have to reconsider his future.

It is a second chance. However if Villa re not in the top 3 after Christmas I predict he will be given the adidas. He has a much tougher task this season and starts with worse keepers than Johnstone, barring the arrival of another canny loanee.

Given the issues still surrounding the club I am thrilled Bruce is staying on. No way could an inexperienced coach/manager like Henry have handled all of the on and off the pitch issues, as well as, learning his trade.

Personally, the whole Henry to Villa link made very little sense to me, especially given the slew of other available managers more qualified, ie De Boer, etc.

Haven’t commented in a while. Was just getting over the disappointment of loosing the playoff when the shit hit the fan with the finances. Was very near to giving up on football altogether but new I couldn’t do it. Its become a joke that we are more interested in with who is running the club and managing it than who is actually going to be playing for us. But that’s what the game has become I suppose. An interesting note on companies House was that the Egyptian guy is listed as being a Belgian National on the form. This may be the link to Henry? Glad Bruce is staying. Stability is key. And Badger, a one year rolling contract is just that. It continually rolls meaning it always has a year left on it. If Bruce gets sacked in October the club still have to honour the remainder of his contract which is one year from date of termination. It makes no difference if they sack him in October or February. It’s good for both parties in that neither is tied to each other for more than the year. I believe O’Neil was on similar deal. Have gut feeling Grealish will be gone next week as I recon we have no option but to sell. These guys are not soft and will see it as a quick fix to ffp rules. They did not become billionaires by throwing good money after bad and that is what will happen if they invest and we fail to go up. I think they will hope to get us promoted on the cheap and why we are sticking with Bruce. If we do go up this season and they buy out Dr Tony then exciting times may lie ahead.

I would have thought grealish was discussed at todays meeting. If he is going there is absolutely no benefit him playing for villa tonight.
We need our players to be getting fit and working together.

That suit is AMAZING!!!! I bet Bill dresses like that all the time.
Pleased with this decision. I like to support a club that does its business in a moral manner, but a bit of success wouldn’t go amiss!

For what it’s worth, I totally think the owners leaked it – giving the fans an opportunity to let them know what we think and we did. Whatever the route to getting here, we have new owners with deep pockets, we’ve kept the right manager in charge (for now) and SB has the opportunity to quickly strengthen the squad for what should be a very positive season. The good news is, whatever happens on the pitch, we should have ownership who can afford to go the long-game; provided that’s their intention. And should we manage to get up this season, next season could be very exciting to think of where we could push onto indeed.

While I would have been prepared to give Henry a chance I think that keeping Bruce is the sensible decision. We’ve had too much chopping and changing over the past few years so a bit of stability won’t go amiss.

Just a thought – I’m wondering if the Henry thing might have been to provide a bit of an incentive from the owners for Bruce to get his finger out this season.

Anyway a week or so ago I was dreading the new season but not anymore!

I’m watching tonight’s game against West ham, I think we are wasting our time with Bree, two down at the minute and not a cat in hells chance of winning or drawing .Oh happy days.

I’m seeing nothing to suppose we have a side that will challenge for getting out of this league.we have two player’s only that know how to move forwards with a ball, all the rest play safe, side to playing it back, West Ham fans are mocking us as it draws to full time. It’s going to be a long time before we start improving that’s for sure, I’m glad my West ham neighbour in America he’d be taking the piss.

Villa better in the second half perhaps but it’s really hard to tell much from these games. I’d guess that Bruce’s starting eleven for the first game will be a mixture of the two teams he basically played today.

West Ham now have a top manager in my opinion and they could well end up top 8 if not higher.

I’d also guess that all the ups and downs of the past few weeks will have affected the players as much as the fans.
