Remi Garde has not ruled out recalling Aly Cissokho from his loan move to Porto. Cissokho has joined Porto on a season-long loan but following the injury to Amavi, Cissokho might be recalled. Cissokho did work alongside Garde during his time in Lyon and the boss knows how Cissokho can play. Cissokho hasn’t played too much at Porto either and would apparently be keen on returning to Villa Park to work alongside Garde.
Another option is Joe Bennett who will be returning from his short loan spell in about 6 weeks time. Bennett did impress former manager Sherwood before leaving for Bournemouth in search of more first team football. Ironically, he would’ve had a better chance of football if he had stayed at Villa with Bennett yet to make an appearances for Bournemouth. Bennett has a similar playing style to Amavi, but has matured defensively over the past two years. Bennett hasn’t played for Villa since his League Cup appearances against Notts County, in which he scored a goal.
So Villa could yet again have 3 options for left-back, but who would impress most? I’d say that Joe Bennett has the best chance of breaking into Villa’s first team. Not only do I think it’s worth giving Bennett another shot, but he did play 42 games for Brighton last year and has improved massively since his poor performances for Villa. He may have moved to Villa when he was quite young, but now at the age of 25 I feel as though Bennett could put in a real shift for Villa and should be given a chance.
I’m also unsure why Cissokho was out of favour under Sherwood, never played under Sherwood yet was outcasted and sent out on loan. Nonetheless, Cissokho wasn’t that bad and miles better that some of the left-backs we had at the club (arguably since Warnock). As things stand, the left-back situation will remain with Richardson starting. Unless of course Garde tries the ambitious and plays Clark out on the left, brings in forgotten man Ilori or even promotes Kinsella to the first team. All those options seem rather unlikely at this stage, but by January I do think that either Bennett or Cissokho will be vying for the left-back spot, if not starting for Aston Villa.
Is there a fall out at Villa again? Apparently Garde has said no to the board’s agreement of having Moyes number 2 as his assistant, and now a decision Is to be made by the club on his appointment, What’s going on..?
Could you imagine if he turned around, walked out and said “Stuff that for a box of frogs”!!!
Would very funny in a gallows humour sort of way…No wonder team spirit is dead if that’s the clubs attitude.
Where’s everyone reading all this backroom unrest??? I can’t find sod all.
Agreed, I’m currently finding nothing on Round coming here.
Giddy try the telegraph mate, lots of talk and photos.
It’s on a number of stories on the Newsnow site
News now??? LOL I’ll stick to I’ve read nothing.
Think it’s all bullshit, there was something on newsnow this morning about the board wanting to appoint Sound and Garde not wanting him.
All this backroom bollox is just the media adding to VILLAs woes they love sticking the knife in.paparazzi arseholes
Apparently had scouts sent to the Dynamo-Porto game. Cissokho not even in the side. Thought to have scouted Dragovic and supposedly Belhanda again though he wasn’t in the side. Aboubakar would also be a welcomed striker at Villa.
I’ve heard of belhanda not the others you mentioned are they French????
Dragovic is Austrian, we were linked to him before he went to Dynamo, good friends with Weimann. Aboubakar is from Cameroon. Not every player Garde’s worked with was French. lol
Isn’t Cameroon a French speaking country???
