Chelsea Vs Aston Villa – Preview

Chelsea host Aston Villa on Wednesday, this game has been moved forward due to Chelsea’s game in the Uefa Super Cup against Champion League winners Bayern Munich. Nevertheless, both teams won their opening games, Villa beat Arsenal 3-1 and Chelsea overcame promoted Hull City at Stamford Bridge.

Last season, Aston Villa got hammered 8-0, the goal for today is to ensure that Aston Villa don’t lose by such a goal margin. But with an massively improved Aston Villa side, a similar score line is very unlikely. The defence has been strengthened with the signing of Luna and the attack force of Agbonlahor, Weimann and Benteke have become one of the best counter-attacking trio in the Premier League. Chelsea on the other hand are chasing the Premier League title in what could be the most competitive and unpredictable Premier League to date.

Team News:
Chelsea are without key defender David Luiz who is still carrying a hamstring injury. It’s expected that Mourinho will make a host of changes following the 2-0 victory over Hull. The likes of Lukaku, Mata and Schrulle may feature.

Aston Villa will be without Nathan Baker who obtained a ankle injury against Arsenal, this means Ciaran Clark will most likely fill in. But, midfielder Sylla is available for selection. Chris Herd is still out injured.

Facts:
Chelsea have won each of their last three Barclays Premier League clashes with Aston Villa, scoring 14 goals.
Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer Frank Lampard has scored 13 times against Aston Villa in the Barclays Premier League; more than against any other side.
Jose Mourinho has won none of his last four Premier League matches against Aston Villa (D3 L1).

Predicted Lineups:

Cech
Ivanovic-Terry-Cahill-Cole
Van Ginkel-Lampard
Schrulle-Mata-Hazard
Torres

Agbonlahor-Benteke-Weimann
Delph-Westwood-El Ahmadi
Luna-Clark-Vlaar-Lowton
Guzan
Final Predictions:
Chelsea 2-1 Aston Villa
We did beat Arsenal, however I think Chelsea is a different animal and they have so much squad depth. They can afford to rest their key players and replace them with equally talented footballers, Lambert doesn’t quite have the luxury. Also, we’re playing at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho has never lost there and I doubt it will happen today, especially since I’m sure Mourinho will stress the threat that Villa does possess on the counter.

with us playing pool on sat, if I was Lambert I would rest as much as I could afford to I do not mean give the points to Chelsea but mix up the midfield rest a couple there if we can but leave gabby, benteke, weimann in so we still have that attack there because we can damage Chelsea but we can deffo beat the pool.

Alright, what do you think of this:

      Guzan
      Lowton-Vlaar-Okore-Bennett
      Bacuna-Sylla
      Tonev
      Weimann-Helenius-Albrighton

      1. Suggesting putting out an understrength team and hoisting the white flag already?? Not good! Wolves played that game and where are they now?

On a separate note Dermot Gallagher was on talk shite and said that Anthony Taylor got all the major decisions right at the emirates. But that been said the powers that be decide to demote him what a bunch of fuckin scumbags seems that we upset the mighty arse so something had to be done fuckin disgraceful surely that’s bang out of order

Tonight is a damage limitation excercise if we lose 4.0 lambert will be waxing lyrical tat we halved last years hammering. 2 things other than death and taxes are certain tonight 1 we will lose and 2 we will not keep a clean sheet

Disagree when was the last time we beat pool at home. We beat them a couple of seasons ago in an end of season meaningless game other than that it was in the 90s we beat them. Our home firm is shite the best if times and don’t see Liverpool at home as a winnable game. Remember we have a 2 wk break after Saturday so no excuse not to put everything into it

  3. Can´t see a good result for us but can´t predict against us. So I go for a 2:2.
Would be great to get a point.

To rest a lot of players for Pool? No way, we are at the start of the season, players should be ready after a long summer break. Other teams play European football and have to adapt, so no way in changing our team around.
Tonight, we only can surprise, everybody expect us to fail. So, who knows.

Other teams have 2-3 quality squads we barely have 1

id like to see tonev and okore tonight, tonev had great game against Malaga and Chelsea wont know too much about him. the only thing I feel we got going for us tonight is that Chelsea are probably going to rotate considerably before united at the weekend(although that means little with chelseas squad)and they might make the mistake of underestimating us, otherwise I cant see anything other than a Chelsea win, 2/3 nil. not a downer just my feeling and I was wrong about arsenal so hope im wrong again.
already got 3 pts more than I thought we’d have by the end of tonight 🙂

I agree. Liverpool is much more likely for 3 points. But in no way should we “rest” any players. Playing well becomes a habit and whilst we might lose tonight if we play the counter launchers up front, we will score at least two. But if Okore has it in him, I would like to see him given some game time. Let Vlaar have a rest, he must be knackered missing all those tackles on Saturday. 😉 UTV

Just seen squad unchanged except Clark for baker. Means vlaar will play Ffs

    * counter punchers up front

lol, counter launchers(dam auto correct!)they sound ace, are they like grenade launchers? if so we could do with one for our defence 😉

  8. I would rest Andi and KEA tonight and play Sylla and Tonev. I would certainly bring Andi back for Saturday. Its important that we develop a squad gradually and without wholesale changes every game.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

How can we rest players that have only played one game Ffs

      1. Because there’s a much more winnable game at home against Liverpool. 3 games against 3 attacking teams where a lot of the Villa players will be running their asses off is going to be a lot, and injuries will then start hitting.

  9. muzzvill avatar

do u mean like this defender will self destruct in 5 seconds cus i think Vlaar has already done that a few times since joining us

Come on…think positive! Playing an under-strength side seems very negative! Let’s just play with passion and fight and get stuck into them! Putting Sylla and Tonev in though certainly wouldn’t weaken the team from the Arsenal game.

Fuck. Chelsea 1:0. Own goal off Luna

  14. Nothing Luna could do there, but Lowton should not be out of place like that to allow the best winger in the EPL that much space.

Here we go again 2 games in and cant go 5mins without a goal going in same defence again no improvement

Can’t get hold of the ball just a ques of how many

  16. Once again we will have to do it the hard way! Damage limitation now I think game over already

  17. Gabby’s gotta learn that the Arsenal backline aren’t nearly intelligent enough to play the offside trap compared to Chelsea’s. He’s really gotta work on making his runs/getting back in time.

Just seen the goal and to be fair it looks like Luna was unlucky. Not the typical error goals we saw last year.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Our defenders are always unlucky. Team can’t string 2 passes tigether appalling

      1. It was “unlucky” (if you believe in luck that is) though, it was a great save and it unfortunately hit off Luna. The appalling part was that Lowton and Vlaar were again out of place against Hazard. You could tell we were set up to attempt a 0-0 draw, however that failed quickly.

Totally outclassed the biggest 1.0 hammering ever. They are in first gear

          1. of course they’ve outclassed Villa, but they’re not really creating chances and if not for an unfortunate Luna own goal, it’d be 0-0 still. They’re going to no doubt play like they did against Hull, allow more possession for Villa and not worry too much.

  19. As I said, injuries are going to hit.

  20. This Refs read the script – You Only give decisions to the SKY 4 side!

  21. At least he’s not yellowing Villa for nothing like against Arsenal.

  22. We’re doing ok gentlemen and we’re still in it. Luna didn’t have a chance, Guzan punched the ball straight out into him. 1-1 at half time.

  23. BENTEKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
