Aston Villa midfielder Charles N’Zogbia is unlikely to return this season following an Achilles injury sustained during the summer. The reason for the injury is still unknown but Paul Lambert has admitted it looks very unlikely that N’Zogbia will return from injury before the end of the campaign.
“He’s still doing rehab,” Lambert told The Birmingham Mail of N’Zogbia. “Charles’s injury is probably worse than Jores Okore’s was and that’s disappointing.
“It will be a big ask for Charles to come back this season because he’s not had many games at all and that Achilles heel, as everybody knows, is a major issue.”
N’Zogbia would’ve helped Aston Villa in the creative aspect during the last 10 games of the season. Last season N’Zogbia scored 4 goals in 26 appearances including the winner against West Ham last year. He could’ve played in that much needed attacking midfield role. Still I hope that N’Zogbia can overcome his injury before the start of the season and make it back into Paul Lambert starting 11. Many fans are still unsure whether or not N’Zogbia has been thrown into the ‘bomb squad’ and we won’t know until the summer.

Yeah I noticed that saddened more bullshit. From what iv seen of Bertrand so far he is only a minor upgrade on Luna anyway. Just coz he plays for Chelsea dosnt mean he is automatically a good player
nah course not, he is OK a decent PL LB and if we brought him ofr £4-5M for say 40-50K a week then not a bad signing

i suppose so dosnt really do it for me. we are obsessed with full backs and defenders that are ok going fwd but cant defend. Ok away from home but at home we are badly found out. we need defenders that can defend first, bring the ball out instead of hoofing secondly and then if they assist or score a goal its a bonus. look at man city and chelsea, yes city are great going forward but I bet u any money they dont win the league. Why? because chelsea are a better defensive unit. The teams that can get those boring mundane 1.0 wins are usually the teams that win things. Even Barcelona have been found out re their defence in past couple of years.
All top managers always built from the back, Saunders, Fergie, Jose etc. Look at Wenger inherited a fantastic defence, once they retired won fuck all. No shock at all and Chelsea are boring, functional etc but that defensive solidity allows the likes of Hazard to nick games. I would never have a manager who believes more in attacking than defending, hence why I never wanted Lambert.
My point exactly Ian. Unless you’ve Messi and Ronaldo up front you should always build from the back. If you don’t concede you can’t lose. Once you goal up it gets very hard for the other team to get back at you. Look at tonight’s game spuds all over chelski but despite that it was still 0.0 at half time and spurs never really looked like scoring despite playing well. This exactly how Chelsea won the CL when they went to barca away they never really looked like conceding despite barca having almost all of the possession. If you have a solid defence like you say it allows flair players to pop up and score the winner. Chelsea can only lose tge league from hear 9 points even for a man city team with 3 games in hand is to much much of an ask. They would of been better letting Chelsea beat them in cup as cup run has cost them tge title.
Fergie was winning titles when Evra was a terrible defender. Few if any are like Cole/Baines/Alaba/Alba. Can attack, can defend. What you need is a DM or 2 that covers them. Mourinho often plays 2 DM’s, Fergie played 2 defensive minded CM’s who would get forward every so often. Wenger’s fortunately now having the best defensive CB partnership in the league, but then their fullbacks defensively? Sagna’s good enough but the rest aren’t. The key is having at least 1 DM, a quality, solid, tackling, positionally intelligent DM.
True you also have to have a strong spine if u look at Chelsea for example they had terry at the back, Essen and Lampard as dm and am ands drogba up front. When we won the league it was similar, mc naught and Evans at tge back Bremer as an Essen type player with a cm who was a leader in Mortimer and the silky skills of Sid with Withe at his peak and shaw who would have been one of England greats IMO if he hadn’t been injured. We were so strong down the middle it didn’t matter when swain and gibbo went fwd as any crosses into the box were severely dealt with by km and ae with Bremer covering the fullback runs brilliantly
