Championship clubs after Grealish on loan, good idea? and cutbacks

Grealish

There’s been very little to write about and the only thing that has been really noticeable for me is that we haven’t moved quickly to bring any players in.

That tells me we had no plan in place to save our position in the Premier league, plain and simple. If we had, we’d have got them in quickly so they can bed in as quickly as possible in my opinion; but we don’t seem to be in any rush at all.

It’s just common sense really, but I’m just putting my view on record. A view that says we’re going down the “we’re already relegated” route. More of which follows further down.

There is an interesting story via the Daily Mail though, that suggests Leeds United, QPR and Derby are all interested in signing Jack Grealish on loan, presumably until the end of the season.

I think this is a great idea, as although it seems Remi Garde is easing the lad back into the squad, I don’t believe he thinks Grealish does enough to warrant a start overall. Which is a stance I totally agree with for what it’s worth.

So given that we’re massive odds on to be relegated, does it make sense to get him in amongst the blood and guts that is the Championship (in the middle of winter, no less) to get him acclimatised beforehand?

I think yes, if he isn’t going to start much in the rest of this season. He’s going to have to get used to it sometime after all, because I very much doubt he’d want to leave the club, as much as things aren’t going his way at the moment.

Which leads me on and takes me back to where I started. We’re now solely concentrated on our next season being in the championship, if the Daily Mirror are to be believed.

The article talks about us aiming solely at championship level free signings, which is all very depressing in itself, but probably not as much so for the everyday people who are inevitably going to have to be sacked/laid off/made redundant or whatever you want to call it.

It’s all quite sad and nothing winds me up more than people being put out of work, but these are the realities of relegation and it’s all very probable.

I suppose there are a couple of plus points in that we may actually be able to sing Gestede’s praises next season, if our moneyballers (if they aren’t sacked too, which they should be imo) can actually find some players to provide the ammo.

And maybe the defence won’t look quite so bad as it does now, although I wouldn’t bank on it. As I said, all quite depressing really, but it’s hard to put a positive spin on anything these days isn’t it?
