Cash in the bag? It looks like it.

Again it seems you lot are a few hours ahead of me on this one, but I feel it deserves a post of it’s own, so here goes;

According to various sources and I’m going with Sky in particular;

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11677/12061767/matty-cash-aston-villa-agree-fee-with-nottingham-forest-for-right-back

We’ve agreed a £14 million fee with a possible £2 million extra in add-ons.

I’ve said previously that I haven’t really seen the right back position as so much of a priority as the left flank. I think Guilbert, with Elmohamady and even Konsa as back up was sufficient.
But hey, Dean Smith’s the manager and he probably knows a lot better than me.
In fairness, Elmo is getting on a bit now and he’s just signed a one year extension to his contract.
Hence it’s probably fair to think that we might look to let him go in the winter window, where he’ll still have some value.
So, yes, perhaps getting another RB in is a good idea.

The interesting question for me is will Cash go straight into the team?
I’d definitely think so, but it begs the question on what it is that Smith doesn’t like about Guilbert?
I mean, the Frenchman has often not been played even though he’s been available and it’s led to a few fans, myself included to be surprised.
I wonder if the player’s not happy at the Villa? But that’s me guessing and wondering again.

Anyway, I like this signing, assuming it actually gets done (and it should do if you believe we’ve already agreed personal terms) as from what I’ve been reading Cash is a good pro who’s willing to learn.
I think he originated on the wing and has been moved back to full back, which should mean that he offers good options on the attack side of our game.
My only concern about him is that his being somewhat inexperienced in the defensive position means his positioning can be poor at times.
It’s just a big bugbear of mine and is why I’m not massively keen on Targett and Taylor on the other flank, but apparently Cash learns quickly and hopefully we’ll see improvement in that side of his game under Smith’s tutelage.

So happy days then and it’s not before time.
Bring in some more signings, sharpish and I’m sure we’ll all be even more positive.

UTV!

Watching England under Southgate tonight confirms what we all know, that we will naff all with him in charge.
From a selfish point of view, I hope Grealish doesn’t play because knowing our luck, he would get injured.
Guilbert has tweeted that he loves Villa and England and he isn’t homesick. Is this a suggestion he is staying? Can he play LB?

it was our kids now under23. but they were battered tonight. sunderland had a few 20 to 23 playing three or four veterans. they were just to wet behind the ears. but villa kids will get a rude awakening. trouble with kids academies is they are told the world is a bed of roses and then they reach 21 and they are too soft. these kids learned a lesson tonight

well grealish finally got his full cap i bet he is well happy tonight. i still hope to god southgate gets the sack, with the talent we have we should be more effective. we only had 4 or 5 shots on goal. could have won it late on but that would have been hard on the danes.

grealish only had a few chances to touch the ball. he passed one to kane who hit one on goal, deflected wide for a corner. southgate has too go he has done well bringing fresher players in. now its time we brought in a manager to fulfill our potential. we wont win sh it playing this style. its low risk boring the opposition to death

It’s done. Ollie Watkins is ours ,what next I’m wondering as talk now of Martinez,
Getting back to lastnight drab game I’m hoping Horse face will think again on getting away from this 1-2 pass as it’s not working all ,all the pundits was repeating what i was saying, we needed a person to carry the ball, two players only was able to do it, Cane and Sterling. Glad Grealish got his cap and hope he gets many more.

Welcome to Villa Ollie Watkins – I wish him well and hope he succeeds in the EPL.

We’ve had too many expensive striker flops from the Championship to want anymore. We just have to trust in Dean Smith’s judgement on this one.

Interesting that within a couple of days of withdrawing the Wilson offer, we’ve moved to sign Watkins. Was Smith originally overruled and instructed to try and sign Wilson as a ‘cheaper’ option?

I think a more likely scenario was that we tried to get one other striker in as a bargaining chip to drive down the asking price of Watkins. The price seemed to keep escalating each day if you believe the media.

I still think we’re in for King – it’s being reported Samatta is attracting interest. I think it’d do us well to let him leave and Davis too, then we’ve got King, Watkins and when fit, Wesley – which isn’t a bad front-line for now.

king / watkins and wesley is a tasty front three. i was thinking the same as all three of them are capable of playing the three roles and will be great interchangeable during the games

Welcome to VP Ollie! Definitely a Dean Smith signing as opposed to Wesley and Samatta. All we need now is pace and creativity on the wing. Announce Benrahma because he already has a rapport with Watkins. If we can also get another creative midfielder to compliment McGinn and take pressure off Grealish too, then we can show some positivity this season.

Welcome Ollie and good luck with your new challenge.
Now get benrharma as holte said they have already got a rapport together and I’m sure grealish would soon get on their wavelength.
King as said he would rather Man utd so forget him we only want players who want to play with the villa. What about having a go for Abraham or are they already trying and keeping it quite.
What a front three of benrharma Abraham and Watkins with Jack in behind.and still have options on the bench.

i have watched brentford lots, all the way back when we had bruce and smith was there, so i got to know their players. ollie watkins is a really good player. i know there is good write up saying same. but i just wanted to say i totally agree. not only can he play up front and score shit loads, but he can play both flanks of the three and as the grealish role. he can hold the ball up very well even thou he isnt a carew shape. he is very mobile and great at finding that space. most important he is lightening quick on the break. trust me when i say we have got a decent player and smith knows how to use him and get the best out of him. i’m dead happy with this signing, sorry i am dead happy with both signings sofar

Rob Mackenzie arriving too. Who he? the Technical Scouting head at Leicester 2011 to 2015. Anyone who can boast finding Jamie Vardy from non-league is already ahead of anyone Villa have had in recruitment since Ron Atikinson. Bring the magic wand Bob – and welcome!
