Capital One Cup Preview

So this week sees us in cup action as we welcome Leyton Orient to Villa Park for the Capital One cup second round.

This is a competition i personally look forward to and feel it is our best chance of winning something which is probably what 15 of the other premier league teams think too!!

There is some good memories to be had when it comes to Villa and the league cup. Who can forget the 2 legged semi-final against Tranmere Rovers and more recent was the breathtaking 6-4 win against Blackburn. There is some bad memories too but i’ll leave them for somebody else to mention.

So our opponents, Leyton Orient. Promoted from league two last season and already they are showing they are a tough nut to crack in league one. They’ve had some decent results including a fine 3-1 win at Oldham. They will come to Villa Park full of confidence having not been beaten since the first day of the season, a 2-1 home defeat to Chesterfield. They beat Plymouth Argyle at Home Park 6-5 on penalties, after drawing 3-3 to progress to round two of the competition

I’m hoping we give some fringe players a run out including Okore, Cole and Bent who can hopefully give Lambert something to think about for the weekend game.

Despite us going out the past two seasons to lower league teams in the cup competitions i feel we have more experience in our team as well as more quality. Providing we go into the game not underestimating our opponents our quality will shine through and i predict a comfortable win.

Prediction.

Darren Bent first goal and Villa to win 4-1 pays 40/1.

According to the DM, Everton are Cleverley’s preferred option. Bet there is a different reaction on Twitter etc if he signs for Martinez! Suddenly it will be a very astute signing by a clever manager. And £8m – well Shane Long went to Southampton for £12.5m, Hull bid £12m for Jordan Rhodes – says it all really!

All that would be he’s near to his nightlife and home, he’s not my cup of tea anyway we need a striker full stop.

Bill – we need a striker now but with Tekkers and Kojac due back can’t see it happening tbh.

Well he should now be off loading players that cannot strike, Abonglahor for one, I cannot make my mind up on Bent because he’s not getting service from the wings, there definitely missing that killer punch in our forwards, teams will be told Villa don’t have midfield and striking players, to hang on in and keep attacking, we are weak.

Bill, I’m with you totally. I would like to see Weimann given a chance in a central attacking role as I thionk he’s wasted out wide. I really don’t understand why PL keeps playing him there. Interesting point about service to Bent. In the first half against Newcastle we pinged in some brilliant crosses and I reckon Bent would have got on the end of at least one whereas Gabby was nowhere to be seen. IMHO, Gabby cannot read the game and relies soley on pace.

BREAKING – Aston Villa agree an £8M fee with Manchester United for Tom Cleverly.

Apparently Manchester United will pay it in installments.

This is a real worry; particularly Okores. Baker and Senderos as a CB pairing; Hull must be rubbing thier hands together!
