Burton 1-1 Villa; Probably the right result, but season over

With a very small crowd, this was only ever going to be a pretty low-key game and to be honest, it sounded very drab, with very little to grab my attention.

Villa scored via Jonathan Kodjia, who got his eighth in 8 games and really is on fire, after capitalising on some poor defending by Burton.
Such a shame then that he had to go off around the 36th minute, with what seems like a dead leg.
He’s a quirky player, who can infuriate some fans and even the manager, because of his tendency to hold onto the ball and not pass.
I look past this, as I see it as a sign of supreme confidence in his own ability and it’s certainly been justified by the goals he’s scored.
Ok, we might have got the odd one or two more if he had passed, but if it takes away from his game, in that he doesn’t go for it so much, I can live with it.

The worry is though, if Kodjia doesn’t score, who will step up?
I should say this isn’t a criticism just because we didn’t get the win, but a genuine concern, as the likes of Hourihane and Lansbury just aren’t doing it are they?
Hogan apparently ran his guts out, but got next to no service.
How often have we heard similar?
It’ll be interesting to see what Bruce requires upgrading in the summer.

There’s no doubting that Villa’s cracking run of form had to end sometime, but it’s disappointing that it happened to a struggling team. That’s no disrespect to Burton, but you’d have preferred us to have lost to one of the higher flyers.
Still, Burton are not the mugs they’re made out to be and will survive the drop.

Oh well, even I can now concede that we won’t be involved in the play-offs this year.
The truth is it’s probably just as well, as we aren’t anywhere near good enough to survive in the Premier league.
Never mind, I liked the thought.

just red the match posts thanks again badger. i was busy so catching up after the game. gutted what happened 🙁 sounds like they were cruising first half. oh well this result will please some. the negative blue noses and Jvillan i just hope he doesn’t set on me like he does other poster. or bad mouth my parents

well i should disappear why the season is over. allow the doom mongers too have their say. i reckon we will walk the league next season. teams being relegated like sunderland and middlesbrough will take some time to adjust. while we should have a system and players should all be gelled

fine form just too late addios until next year

Nath, you’re wasting your time JV is never wrong and he never says anything bad about anyone else although I beg to differ which he will probably interpret as abuse. He has absolutely nothing interesting to say (in my opinion which I believe I am entitled to) as is evidenced by his absence over the past few weeks.

As it happens JVillan, I share your concerns re Kodjia and Jedinak.
There’s no doubt they’ve been our best players (along with Chester, imo) and we do seem overly-reliant on them.
But all successful teams have a couple of stand-out players.

And yes, Jedinak is running out of time.
Hence the “moving into defence” comments from the manager.
He sees it, but thinks his career isn’t quite over yet.

As for Kodjia, what fee will it take for him to leave?
£30-40 mill and I reckon Xia might begin to think about it.
Which would give some decent dough to strengthen, as I’ve no doubt it would be put straight back in.

I don’t believe the future is as poor as you think, simple.

Now please leave any personal stuff out of it and only comment on what’s happening re: the club/team.

Come on lads, put the handbags down. Life’s too short!
I knew Burton would stop us in our tracks. The squad were probably overcome by the smell of hops! It sounds as so the game was so low key it was like a practice match. Oh well!

Forecast a draw Bum Bum so not displeased. It has always been unrealistic to expect us to win all our remaining games but nice to fantasise about it. Burton not a bad side at home and we just had no energy which we’ve seen before – I mean who in their right mind schedules three championship games in a week immediately after an International break – lunacy.

It shows the guys running the Championship (2nd Division in old money) are just as mental as those running/ruining the Premiership (1st Division in…you get the drift…) 🙂
