Brighton 1 – 1 Villa; We deserved that one

Well, I’ve called another one correctly for once and while I’m happy with that point, I’m also disappointed as I think we should have won that.

We had the best of the play overall, created the best chances and the proof of the pudding is that Gollini had very little to do overall.

When we play poorly, it’s easy to point fingers, but I’m seriously struggling to criticise anyone after that.

Westwood even played well and actually tried to move the ball forward quickly.
What a refreshing change is to say that, as although I’ve been one of his biggest detractors, so I’ve never wanted him to actually fail for us.
I’m still not convinced he’s good enough, but tonight he tried to move us forward, which is what any Villa Mid should do.

And then it’s hard to slate anyone, as although the first half was tight, I thought we edged it.
The second half, we ruled even more.

The belief is there now and my opinion says it’s now because we quite simply have a decent manager, who knows this level like the back of his hand.

The fact that I’m somewhat disappointed that we’ve lost this one says it all.
We have no reason to fear ANYBODY in this league and I now fully expect us to make a serious charge for automatic promotion.

Consider Bruce hasn’t got a player in yet and that’s not such a daft statement.

am i right in reading we have only moved up the table one place under bruce, we were 17th when bruce took over up to giddy heights of 16th now

      Don’t worry about that.
We were 17th afer a few games played and looking shite, simple.
As opposed to now, where a few more games in, we’re still a similar points difference apart.
      Quite simply, we’ve improved massively.

Just look at the gap that was there, from us and the top few, a while back.

That’s the problem with this league a team could win 3 in a row and only move up the table a small bit. Bruce has steadied the ship and there are major improvement s to the team. Utv.

My worry is our mental ability to not go on and take games by the scruff of the neck. Must be about 8? Games this season we were winning and haven’t won. Why can we never get 2-0 up? I can’t put my finger on it?

Not that long ago we were regularly losing games in the last minutes so a vast improvement.

I have no doubt that it will come especially once SB is able to bring in some of the players he needs in January

If Bruce brough in Lionel Messi, he’d still look like Lionel Messi. Where as before he’d have looked like Lionel Blair.
    p.s. Come on Leicester!

Congrats to Leicester! Into the last 16 that’s an achievement on your first go. I think they might surprise a few more teams before they’re finished.

That will be us in four years or so (and no I haven’t had a drink!)

    Yes, well done Leicester!

I’ve just seen Borrussia Dortmund 8 – 4 Legia Warsaw as a result.
What a game that must have been!

    Possible striker swap/deal?
    It might suit the books for both clubs;

I’d definitely go for a swap (plus cash I’d expect). Hernandez and Kodjia working together up front would be something indeed.

Where would that leave McCormack though? With Hernandez on board I can’t see where he’d fit in and I’m sure he wouldn’t settle for warming a bench.

        That’s the thing isn’t it?
I don’t see where McCormack fits in at all in our squad, unless you play him straight off Kodjia up front. Or maybe Gestede, who I’ve previously said gives us an option (albeit not the one I like) if we want to play a longer game.
If you play him, it means you can’t play Grealish and/or Ayew, who I think might be better bets.

The only plus for me is that as it stands McCormack will be available during the African nations thing (and he’s known as a late starter).
But you could say that about Gabby and he definitely isn’t our goalscoring solution, imo.

All in all, I suspect McCormack will prove a poor signing, but wtfdik?

Just to compound things Villa are supposed to be after Ludogorets’ Brazilian winger Cafu.

I’ve got a feeling we might not be too short during the African Cup of Nations.

Hernandez for Gestede and not getting Rhodes would be largely beneficial for us. Gestede just might fit Hull well enough and Hernandez has that all around ability, like Ayew, but a different player overall, that the team needs.

Cafu’s an interesting one as well. 10 goals and 6 assists so far this season. 4 goals and 4 assists coming in 11 Champions league games. Though most of his goal/assistss has come as playing as a center forward.

I see that Danny Murphy has said that Villa aren’t a big club and Villa Park was a ‘boring’ place to play.

Can someone tell me who this Danny Murphy bloke is because frankly I’ve never heard of him. Obviously a small time boring player who thinks a lot of himself as a pundit on some shit programme called Talkshite – sorry they say they’re called Talksport!
