After the seemingly rubbish stories about Benteke being a target for Liverpool, things have dried up a bit, to be honest.
Still there are some things worth talking about and the first is Ron Vlaar, where the Daily Mirror suggest that he’s going to start in the FA cup final even if we can’t nail him down to a contract.
I’m not convinced the quote by Sherwood even says that and it looks like it’s been taken out of context to me.
It doesn’t make sense either, as Sherwood definitely doesn’t seem to be the type of manager who would even tell a player he’s a guaranteed starter so early on.
Vlaar will probably be injured anyway.
Or then again, he probably won’t, given that it’s the final.
Am I being cynical there? Perhaps, but even though I don’t think he’s a bad defender, it really wouldn’t bother me too much if he doesn’t sign. He’s just too injury prone, given his time with us and can’t be relied on.
Jack Grealish has been in the news a lot lately and rightly so, because he’s really starting to look the player many of us thought he might become.
I’m surprised there hasn’t been some BS story that one of the big clubs are after him yet.
Anyway, the latest is that Delph and Grealish are training buddies, who stop behind and put in extra practice.
I know it’s a nothing story really, but it’s nice to know who the ones are putting in the extra effort.
I mean, it’s a hard life isn’t it, when you have to roll in for 9am, do a couple of hours training, have some dinner and then knock off at 2pm, just in time to get in for a few hours on the X-Box or a bit of gambling on the nags.
Now I am being cynical, I suppose, but well, you know what I mean.
Still on the subject of Grealish, Paul Scholes is quoted as saying that the lad is a million miles away from being a good player yet.
It’s actually a fair point and one Grealish might do well to read, as we don’t want him getting carried away with himself do we?
Next up, is Tom Ross having his weekly comment in the Mail talking about the paltry allocation of tickets for the cup final. Love him or hate him, he does of course have a point in saying that there will be 40,000 people at the game that won’t give a toss about the result.
Where I think he’s wrong though, is that many of the other tickets go to the grass-roots of the game.
He is though 100% correct when it comes to the corporate seats, in my opinion.
And to rub it in even more, it looks as though the cup is about to be officially renamed the Emirates FA cup (or similar) according to an article I read in the online Daily Mirror. The difference here is that it’s currently known as the FA cup (in association with Budweiser).
It seems to me the FA will do anything for money to pay off the enormous debt that was caused by them building a stadium where the majority of fans didn’t even want it in the first place.
And isn’t there some kind of conflict here, when they already sponsor Arsenal?
It just goes to show what those at the top think of the people who pay their wages, in my opinion.
Hopefully there will be howls of protest. But I doubt it’ll make much difference.
I don’t know what happened there, but the original article didn’t direct to the proper place.
Hmm.
I know just found out,are you still on holiday Badger? If so don’t drink so much. Away tomorrow my little lad in a tournament at Bournemouth for 9 years old schools.
I think it might have had something to do with the fact that I forgot to put a title in.
Oh well, seems ok now.
Wish the nipper good luck for me.
Oops yes, still on holiday, back Saturday night. Warm as hell, so I have to keep the fluids up. You know how it is 😉
Am surprised nobody has mentioned the Bamford stories circulating at the moment.
I could have mentioned him, Guest.
But most of the time I’m frankly not interested in other club’s players unless it’s looking very likely that we will sign them.
And like most of these rumours, it’s based on very little, except that Bamford’s young and Sherwood gives young players a chance.
Anyway, Adam sometimes chips in with a speculation story or two and I didn’t want to step on his toes 🙂
That said, it would be good to see him in the prem to see if he can cut it.
It’ll be interesting to see Troy Deeney too, for the same reason, imo.
Disagree on Vlaar. He is certainly going to be fit for the final…he will want to be in the ‘shop window’……a rainy wednesday night in Scunthorpe, then he will be injured for sure. And yes I am cynical about him. He suddenly ‘fell in love with the Villa’ when we reached the Final/semi final. Where was his loyalty when we were struggling? He should have followed Delph’s lead and signed when we were struggling. I will always respect Delph for staying loyal when he could have easily jumped ship. As for Vlaar, hope he gets dropped for the final…..would prefer any Wembley back four without him in it!
Vlaar’s far too injury prone & now it’s been proved we don’t miss him when he’s out.I’d get what you can for him now before the injuries blight his career.
Another post that went into moderation?
Sorry mate.
To be fair Langford, I had it on pretty good authority that Vlaar was only being offered the same money he’s on now, which isn’t great in the scheme of things.
You can’t blame him for looking at a final big payday.
I’m just not convinced he’s worth it.
In other news, I’ve just seen an article where Butch Wilkins says we show great energy on and off the ball, but need to cut out the errors that are costing us goals.
In other equally revelatory news, it’s also been discovered that shit stinks.
People (including me) have mentioned Bamford a fair few times now. Do find it more interesting the media claims it’s a loan deal. Not sure we’d loan in a young striker like that, unless Kozak doesn’t come back well enough or we don’t sign someone like Andone who we’re heavily linked too. Not that I would mind a striker like him to be back up to Benteke and Kozak to come on late or such.
It really, really, really pains me to say this, but
…Come On Chelsea!!!!
2 injuries Leicester in 23 minutes. Really unfortunate for them.
Their fighting spirit has to be admired, but it’s Villa first…
I agree, just never like seeing said injuries.
They’ve been great for the league. If only we could jettison the Sky Six, it could be a proper competitive league again…Wishful thinking.
Taking that idea forward, I wonder what Europe’s ‘super clubs’ have decided in both the short and long term regarding the breakaway league? They’d have discussed it at length, that’s for sure…
Looking at Leicester’s remaining fixtures they will probably stay up anyway. We should finish ahead of QPR and Burnley, but need one more. I think it might be Sunderland. Everton are in good form so that game will be difficult, although they are much better at home than away. A win in that game and I will feel more confident.
This is why I’m glad we don’t have someone like Mourinho. Using Drogba over one of their talented youth is disgraceful. Drogba’s been garbage for months and yet someone like Solanke isn’t played.
Jose has been bleating on about their youthful generation today. All horseshit. Really dislike the bloke this time around. He was funny and lighthearted before. Now he’s just unpleasant.
Largely why I don’t believe the BS we’re after Bamford on loan. We have Benteke, Kozak and Gabby, why loan in a youngster to be 4th choice when we have one or two kids to give a chance too instead? 5th choice if we get another striker like Andone who we’re linked too. I do think we’re scouting Bamford but permanently.
He also disgusts me as he wastes far too many young players. Really sad to see. Not just at Chelsea but Madrid, Inter etc.
This is not the score we want up till now, 0-0 looks even Stevens on match info.
FFS this is taking the piss 1up
I have a feeling that if (and thats a huge IF) we were to win the FA cup, Vlaar will stay. Which, whether we like it or not, will be massive for our team. Having someone with experience at the highest level at the back is hard to come by and you can see it when he plays.
In terms of transfers this summer…and hoping that we do actually stay up, we need to have a serious look at the teams tha go down. Burnley have some cracking players for example. Imagine Benteke and Ings up front. I also like the look of Van Aanholt at Sunderland at LB.
I’m sure there’s a conspiracy to send Villa down – all the Sky 4 sides throwing games away to the relegation candidates!
Bencey83 my thoughts, it wouldn’t surprise me its a conspiracy over players wages from other teams not wanting us in the premiere. and to crown it Albrighton was the man to score for Leicester, in the shite again we are.
If Sunderland win their game in hand, we’re right in the mire! All our remaining games are winnable, but also losable!
1-1 now get in Chelsea.
Thank you, Chelsea!
3-1 thank you lord.
