Aston Villa; We’re still a big club really

villa cup

Brand finance have released their latest top 50 football club brand list and it makes for interesting reading;

We come out at 23rd in the table, an improvement from last year’s 31st position.
At first glance I noticed that all the English clubs had moved higher and immediately put it down to the increased Sky income we’re due, so maybe that explains it.

You can debate the figures, but the methodology can be seen here;

Things are calculated on a level playing field comparing like for like in my opinion.

And while it might not currently seem like it, even though we’ve struggled massively over the last four years, we’re actually still regarded as the eighth biggest club in the Premier League.
I think that’s pretty impressive, all things considered.

I know we could talk about our recent financial problems, but we’ve gone over them again and again.
I don’t think it’ll get us far if I bring it up again now, so I’m not going to bother.

All I will say is that I think many of us have forgotten just how big a club we really are.
Including the people who really matter.

    We’re a big club historically for sure. And one of the most well known English clubs worldwide (again, historically) Ask any of todays kids outside of England who Aston Villa are and they’ll most likely give you a funny look.

    we will not be a big club again (historically) until we are run like a professional club, this lerner guy and his motley crew advisers,making amateurish decisions, none more than appointing a manager 99%fans hated before he sets foot in VP, because of his ties with our hated rivals. that’s not enough…. he then allows him 2 waste millions on players only 2 sack him within a year and then grumble about the debts and wages.

    big clubs act big,they are professional in the way they act. not sending a youth team to russia to lose in european quarter finals. spend fortunes on shit players and complain squads not big enough. sell up for foooooooook sake,

      fook u lang ~ i celebrated this event the day it happened and everyday since ~ but it serves as a reminder of a time when we were giants,when we ruled england and europe using 14 players. until the yank fooks off, we never ever taste such days again, negative i don’t think so, its reality he needs to go asp, clocks ticking towards another season, we will be ill prepared 4, teams are already planning ahead.

    Has anyone seen Callum Robinson’s 30 yard worldy for the England U19’s? I read about it but can’t find any highlights. I’m fed up about the age excuse rubbish, Lambert always bangs on about, if they’re good enough then they 99% of the time will be at 18,19 years of age. I’d love to see Grealish and Robinson getting 20 games and up next season, what more can they honestly do before they get lots of game time. Another one is Donacien, solid, strong, quick, yet baker and Clark are ahead of him and he hasn’t even been on the bench after their attrocious performances.

        Neither of them are 15. So Wenger can’t claim he’s “produced” them. Plus he’d probably just try and get another Southampton youngster. Seems Liverpool and Arsenal are keen on their entire team.

        Who’s going to buy a premier league clubfull stop. There is no one. Anything else is hope and speculation. You Lerner out crowd wanted this, deal with it. I came hear months ago asking who was going to buy us. There was no answer, why? Because there is no one. This is villa fir the next few years. No one wants to buy us. May as well look towards a Leeds or sheff its for our future.

          I have to agree with JIMT really, at least the club is financially viable or will be next season if its still a prem club,
          You could argue it won’t be if we get relegated, but look clubs that went down spent money, some clubs net spend less than us and stay up.
          its awful stuff just surviving, but honestly if there was a buyer out there right now, which i doubt, i don’t think the last few years would be a hindrance.
          It might even be a bonus, as any improvement would be welcomed and afford the owners a bit of a honeymoon.

          its simply really, unless you are willing to spend 200-250m in 2/3 seasons on transfers alone plus the buyout money plus 50m extra a year on wages .. congratulations on having the same chance of finishing 7th … maybe …
          so who on this planet has 3/4 billion pounds appx 1bn US$ to throw at once successful club with a long history.
          How many people are out there willing to do that?
          considering 5/6 of them are already spoken for.

          The 2 worst offenders in the new world of complete financial obliteration of the competition were fined 50M pounds each and given some squad limitations.
          thats more than we spent the last two seasons combined.
          yet we hear talk of PSG lining up a 40m bid for a player already.

          Lerner tried and failed in an era that was one or two notches below the madness you see today.
          You are blaming him really for not enabling us to winning the lotto twice in a row …
          So for me .. its now a case of sell us Lerner if you are not interested any more,
          hopefully someone else is and hopefully they can maintain our prem status at the least.
          but thanks for the efforts, shame about your mistakes, and pity about the state of this money driven football world
