Aston Villa host Tottenham in Sunday’s only League game this weekend. These two sides have already faced each other in the League Cup where Tottenham overcame a much-changed-Villa side 4-0. This weekend will be different, Benteke is fit for this game, but Paul Lambert will make the final call whether or not he will be able to play. Aston Villa have hit form coming into this game, Villa are undefeated in over 3 games and even won their last home game against City 3-2. Tottenham have been playing well, however last weekend, they were torn apart by West Ham at White Hart Lane. Which team will come out on top this weekend following an international break?
Aston Villa will be able to play on the counter, with Tottenham usually playing high-pressure football, as a result this could aid Villa in nicking another shock-victory this weekend. Tottenham will be keen to bounce back but was Villas-boas given enough time on the training ground to work with his players to point out what went wrong last game. But in this fixture, Tottenham have been undefeated in over 10 games, the last time Villa beat Spurs was in 2008 where they won 2-1.
Team News:
Aston Villa maybe able to welcome back Christian Benteke into the side, he has recovered sooner than expected. N’Zogbia and Okore are still long-term casualties.
Tottenham are without injured winger Arron Lennon. Danny Rose and Coupe will also miss this fixture. Kaboul is an injury doubt.
Match Facts:
Paul Lambert has won more away league games (7) as manager of Aston Villa than he has at Villa Park (6).
Tottenham are unbeaten in their last nine league meetings with Aston Villa, winning six (D3).
Aston Villa have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last 14 Premier League home games, losing nine in this run (W4 D1).
Paul Lambert’s side have played the highest percentage of long passes in the Premier League this season (16%).
All three of Tottenham’s away games this season have ended 1-0 (two wins, one defeat for Spurs).
Predicted Lineups:
Guzan
Bacuna-Vlaar-Clark-Luna
El Ahmadi-Westwood-Delph
Weimann-Benteke-Agbonlahor
Soldado
Lamela-Eriksen-Townsend
Dembele-Paulinho
Naughton-Vertonghen-Dawson-Walker
Lloris
Match Prediction:
Aston Villa 1-1 Tottenham
I think this game will end in a draw, I don’t think Villas-boas will have had enough time to work with his squad and I think they will struggle to deal with Villa’s counter. Benteke’s return will definitely boost Villa this weekend. I think Villa can win this game, but I think Lambert should drop Weimann for this game, I think a different winger would be able to expose Naughton more.
Delph tries taking on players far too many times and continues losing the ball, that’s not “good”.
Benteke!
Bacuna’s hardly done anything defensively, get him forward, Spurs are trying everything through Townsend.
Lambert out!
Lerner out!
Rubbish. Utter rubbish. Cheap 2nd division football. Pay peanuts, get monkeys.
Agreed but it won’t happen. And if any knobs on here come on and say lets give Kojak etc time I will scream. Lamberks had enough time now he fuck off
That was shite. We were the Mighty Villa. NOW WE ARE NOTHING.
What a f**cking shower of shit. Hi Gareth
Hi Bob.
That wasn’t a very good match. I’m glad I saved my £100 and stayed in Hampshire…
I’m glad I saved my tenner and stayed in Aston.
A top drawer shower as the Newcastle game Lerner’s selling us short boys and girls and I’m f**cked if I will enter VP whilst again until this buffoon relinquishes the reigns.
AVFC RIP.
Glory hunter.
Penis.
A predictable result to what was a predictable match. It’s hard to take, but AVFC can no longer compete with the likes of Tottenham Hoitspur. They have a squad full of quality and strength in every position. Add in the astute nature Daniel Levy conducts his business and an excellent young manager in Villas-Boas, its no surprise look a million miles away from them. Its clear we have none of the assets Spurs possess.
AVFC is a club going nowhere ATM. Benteke will see us safe this season but next year when he goes things will be bleak. Deary me Randy, what an ambitionless pit you have created
Agreed we will never be good again under Lerner second half they battered us and they didn’t play that great either but still miles to good for us. Lamberk has to go and go now the football at home is clueless and no better than under mcclown. Lamberk set us up not to get hammered just like mcleish if mcleish was here we would be screaming for his head. Lambert has had enough time he failed miserably to sort out a dm and am Lerner won’t trust him with any more than £10m. It’s a joke tge club is run badly from top to bottom if only we had levy.
Changing the manager won’t do anything, bar the odd anomaly, the teams that invest do well. We buy on the cheap, this is the net result.
But Spuds didn’t impress at all!!!!! Considering they spent over £100million this summer alone, they looked very average.
Agree they will struggle to finish top 4 IMO
So we lost to a team assembled by far more than 100mil and now again we are Shite again! Fickle, deluded, clueless or just plane stupid, take your pick.
How about realistic. Of course we lost to team that cost millions to assemble, the point is our teams has been assembled on the cheap. Lerner is to blame here, I’m stunned he’s got away with so much.
The Browns fans warned us, so much so they called their home stadium the “factory of sadness”. VP is pretty similar to that, bar the fluke Man City win, its the same script every other week.
Agree and glad someone else has realised city win was a fluke. Unless Lerner goes this is all we have to look forward to the man is a disgrace the way he has run this club into the ground
West ham beat them and we beat arsenal and city Ffs. Dosnt mean anything every team is beatable. The last 3 home games v spurs we have conceded 10 goals and scored none. We never looked like scoring today and never looked like scoring v hull. We are awful not just because of today’s result but how we have performed since lambert arrived. U are the reason y they get away with it always making excuses. We lost at home to Newcastle what’s the excuse for that their side didn’t cost 100s of millions. U talk absolute shite so go and lick Lerner and lamberks arse on another site
God how I’m hating our beautiful game. And the blind sheep just make it worse. If we’d have been spanked in a quality manner then fair enough, but however much Spuds have spent, they were very, very average. And what hurts is that we were much, much worse.
Spot on spurs were very ordinary but still light years ahead of us. Especially secind half
how much have spurs spent compared to villa last ten years and what are they worth now changing managers doesnt do any goog houllier spent 25 to 30 million one window mcleish spent about 20 million two windows lambert spent about 40 million never mind who signed ireland lerner has gave the money but it is starting to look like lambert has bought quantity over quality big time we didnt need keeper in summer and if he thinks kovac is better than bent we are in deep trouble bowery dawkins helnius not needed
Shoukd never have sold bent that’s as bad as MON selling Cahill IMO.
