Aston Villa v Liverpool Preview

Tomorrow we face Liverpool at Anfield. This is our first major test of the season to gauge where we really are in terms of how good the team really is.

The past 2 seasons we have done well against the odds at Anfield with Benteke and Weimann running riot. Last season we were very unlucky not to win but in typical Villa fashion we panicked when we went 2.0 up and snatched a draw from the jaws of victory!!

Tomorrow Sturridge is out which is a big plus but with a world class player like Balottelli likely to start they will have plenty of goals in them. Add to this we are without our talisman Benteke without an adequate replacement it does not bode well for us.

It is vital we start well as Liverpool come flying out the blocks in the first ten mins and better teams than us have gone 2-3.0 down in the blink of an eye. If we can keep in the game at 0.0 for the first half hour then who knows but in all likely hood we will get beat comfortably as they have far too much talent up front for our defence to handle.

I am going 3.1 to Liverpool.

Well done, Baker. I doubted you, but you put in a good solid shift today. I think I’ll stop shaving as of today!

Excellet, hard fought win today, but still plenty of improvement to be made, with only 25% possession and 1 shot on target!

We can have 10% Possession for all I care (away from home that is) if we can get results like that. But we need entertained at villa park though.

Great result. Something must have been added to the water at villa. We look so strong defensively compared to last season and only a moment of pure genius or a major howler was going to deny us the win. I believe the tactics worked today so fair play to Lambert on that one. Had we went 2 nil up I think Liverpool would have went for it more. You got the impression from them that they were not too bothered being one nil down. They must have been thinking they were facing last year’s back four and goals would come eventually. Great start to season. Keep up the good work lads ! You have to win ugly now and again !!!!
