Porto midfielder Steven Defour has been linked with a move to Villa Park and yesterday his agent has come out and said that there is in fact interest from Aston Villa in regards to his client.
“Aston Villa have let it be known that they are interested in Defour,” the midfielder’s agent Paul Stefani revealed.
“It is not yet concrete, and it is the same story for other clubs that I can’t name.
“Steven is certainly open to joining an attractive club on condition that they offer him more playing time than he has at present.
“He’s not unhappy at Porto but he needs to be playing regularly with an eye on the World Cup.”
Defour would be keen on moving to the Premier League, he has already hinted his admiration for the League but most importantly he seeks playing time in an effort to boost his World Cup chances with Belgium. Defour joined Porto in 2011 for a fee of £5 million. I’m yet to find a quote in regards to the asking price for the midfielder.
If you may remember, Defour was previously linked with Man. United and Aston Villa prior to his move to Porto. He is a creative player that sits in midfield. He would definitely provide competition for Westwood, Delph, El Ahmadi and Sylla. If we get Defour, Lambert deserves some credit on this transfer. He is experienced, and will definitely make an impact.
It’d be nice but he’d only be the first piece in the jigsaw. I honestly don’t think he’d be entirely happy seeing Guzan float the ball over his head to Benteke all the time as per Lamberts instructions.

Well, don’t live in Portugal, don’t know Defour personally so can’t answer that truthfully, but hopefully some day soon you’ll realize that clubs get used by just about everyone, fans, players, manager’s, owners, scouts, assistants, directors and so on. It’s simply how it is.
His agent played down the asking price of 20m, claiming he’d only cost about what Porto paid for him. So a great deep lying play making signing if this comes true.
The club won’t sanction this, Lambert’s probably lining up more lower league dross and Lerner will be rubbing his hands at more low wages, low cost rubbish to help us reach the dream of avoiding relegation for the 4th season in a row.
Defour can and will do much better, he should do himself a favour and join a club with hope and ambition because he’s never going to find that at VP

As for Defour, I find the agent’s comment interesting.
How come he can mention the Villa, but doesn’t name any other clubs?

Largely guessing because Villa’s openly talked to him/watched him. I’m pretty sure he’s been linked to a few German clubs like Leverkusen, Schalke and such but he wants an EPL move and we’ve been linked before. He was also probably only really asked if Villa were interested.
is this another link to another player by an agent looking for more money, it does happen a lot to us. not blaming Lambert or Lerner for this, our club are very scretive when it comes to signing players. These agents are a nightmare in the attempts for bigger bonuses. he may well come to Villa he may well not but aside from the issues at Villa this is another one that is ruining football
Defour is a solid player,plays good football and Porto are in good shape so the reason for him not playing at Porto because there are better suited.This does not mean Defour is shit cuz he can’t make first team at Porto each week.If we played Porto we would get skinned ATM.Defour solid signing good player improve our midfield no end.UTV
Exactly, just because someone isn’t playing week-in and week-out for Porto doesn’t mean they’re a poor club. He would add a lot to our team and would be our first ‘big signing’ in a while.
We don’t want players who are competition for the current midfield because they are a shower of shit. If the players we bring in aren’t ready to walk straight into the first team then don’t bloody bother !!

They can’t afford the player, and the player doesn’t want to go there … If anyone is wondering how good he is, remember the pre champions league qualifier Liverpool played against Standard Liege a few years ago. Fellaini, Axel Witsel and Steven Defour occupied the Standard midfield and they dominated, but ultimately it was Liverpool that got through with penalties (if my memory serves me well). Fellaini went to Everton, and Defour was bound for ManU if it wasn’t for an injury that costed Defour his transfer and six months of his career, because actually Defour was the playmaker and the better player of those three. A few years later, Axel Witsel moved to Benfica and Defour went to Porto, together with Eliaqium Mangala. Defour had to settle for the bench because Moutinho kept him out of the squad. Although an unlikely transfer to happen, Defour would be the Villa player that would finally offer the team a real midfield as he is both a 6 and an 8 into one player.
I would say this is an attempt by the players agent to up interest in his client!!! He mentions about a fondness to the premier league.. im guessing there looking for another club from the league to cum forward!!
