Lambert was just stating a fact which is so obvious that surely only the most delusional ‘fans’ on this moan fest can’t see. Against Ipswich last year we left out Benteke, Gabby, Weimann, Guzan. We won 2-1 and you weren’t all wetting yourself then. Just over 20,000 Villa fans bothered to turn up, so they also thought the precious FA Cup played 2nd fiddle to staying in the top division and going the way of Wigan, Leeds, Bolton etc.

Well said Geoff. I can see both sides on this but I’m in the cup not imp camp. Don’t get me wrong I’d rather win it than not win it but not at the expense of going down.

Since 1993 (I could go back further if you wanted) two teams have won it and been relegated, your argument is absolute bollox (nothing new there then).
They were relegated because they were shit not because they won the fa cup.

Disagree the fa cup totally exhausted 2 teams with a small squad as it is. Plus they suffered injuries from over doing it as they increase their risk tge more they play. If we had a top quality 2 -3 team squad like the sky 4 then that’s a different matter we havnt. So we have to make sure prem league is priority and just send out a weak team where appropriate. Having said that our first team is hardly strong so wouldn’t make a difference anyway!

I agree with ooh ahh. It’s simply a question of resources vs reward bws.
Its unromantic but that is modern football.
As for lambert enraging all those by trying to be honest in a press statement ??? Wtf did i not see comment after comment, article after article that contained numerous references to how annoying lambert was for seemingly talking shite and laying on the fake praise after a poor display.
He tries a different tac and admits some meaningful and honest information and the lamberk frenzie ensues!
Damned if you do …damned if you don’t !

I hate lamberk as much as the next man but on this occasion. He has spoken sense. It’s a sad fact of football life now that finishing 4th is seen as more successful than fa cup win. It is completely wrong if course but it is reality. Let’s face it it’s not like we coukd win it anyway so why bother risking first teamers getting injured when we have to focus on staying up.

Bloody hell, the intellectuals are out. So, Mr BWS (Assuming the BS stands for bullshit, what’s the S for?) if you get to the 5th, 6th or semi-final and were relegated… it doesn’t count? Tit! That would be a real comfort to everyone. I did read the debate, including Robo – who goes to cup matches but can’t be arsed with league matches – who said Lambert didn’t care. No, he didn’t, he was saying clubs in the bottom half of the division have different priorities. But of course, it’s raw meat to the moaning shits on here.

BWS mate, years ago we had two well known manager’s turn their back on the FA cup by playing their reserve sides, Both got slated for doing it it was against the rules, to me the FA cup died knowing that the goal for them was European honours, I blame the F A for that, I every year had two coaches going to wherever the draw sent us, one with the Bluenoses the other for Villa Boy’s, we would meet up at a club in Bromsgrove both coaches, never did the thought of arguments just have that special day, its been fucked up by greed, the F A cup was to me a day to wait for, some fans have never had the fun that us fans had.

I get what you are saying Bill but the argument that is being put forward is winning the FA = Relegation and that is total horse shit.
In the history of the Cup only one team (Wigan) have won it and been relegated in the same season so it’s a totally flawed argument.
What you say is absolutely correct, the competitions been devalued by your Man U’s, Chelsea’s, Arsenal’s who are more concerned with the Champions League but how the f**k that effects the likes of Villa, Newcastle, Everton, Stoke, West Brom or jeopardizes their premier league status is beyond me.
It appears we see the big 5/6 put out second string teams and for no good reason (seeing we haven’t got European games to worry about) and the rest follow suit.
Good debate about it last evening then Geefry takes no heed of the previous posts and comes in with “your all idiots bar me” type post and Oohah with pops up with his usual inane bullshit.

Come on, Lambert once again is damned for speaking his (and most of professional football’s) mind.

The FA Cup has lost significance, that cannot be denied. Not to us older generation who grew up watching the whole build up throughout the day and having two of the only three TV channels broadcast it live.

But the younger generation brought up on Sky football and CL midweek matches don’t care much for it.

As for Kozak breaking his leg to deflect attention from Lambert’s comment, what ? News always leaks at every level of every organisation. You probably believe the moon landings were staged and the Titanic was swapped with the Olympic for an elaborate insurance fraud.

I suggest you write to Faulkner Robo to advise him that you have seen us win the League Cup, to surrender that each season in the hope that you can see us win the FA Cup. Good luck with that.

Ultimately, getting knocked out of the cups is always disappointing. Getting relegated would be disastrous.

But for a bloke who can’t be arsed to watch league games anymore, it probably doesn’t matter which league our club are in.

don’t really see how lamberts comments re the cup have a significance in kozacs injury, a conspiracy too far me thinks.
really bad news about libor, not only for the lad himself but for the team, say what you like about him I feel he always gives 100% and he’s our 2nd highest goal scorer this season in a team that cant score. talk about bad luck and wtf was going on in training for a player to get his leg broke? maybe a freak one.
as for the F.A cup, it has been relegated somewhat by the clubs at the top fielding 2nd string squads and I believe we too should be resting the likes of benteke and vlarr on Saturday and anyone else carrying injuries. id love to see us have a good cup run, hell id love to see us win it, it don’t look so 2nd string come Wembley at the end of the season(btw playing the semis at Wembley is a joke, ridiculous for so many reasons)however we do have to be sensible although lamberts comments re the cup are more than stupid especially as we have a home tie(yes paul a home tie, hardly drumming up the excitement to get the fans in are we?)although ive yet to see the actual quotes as to what was said by him.

Ian is right about old Hairy Hands though. S/he was giving the info about the leg break hours before it broke on the OS but at the same time as the local media were putting the boot into PL for his comments.

I can’t for the life of me see why Lamberk would say it even if he thought it though, seems folly to me. A cup run might go some way to repaying the ST holders for the utter shite they’ve had to witness this season. Lets see how many of us are thinking it’s a waste of time if we pull Bloose in the next round.

Out of interest, how many are going tomorrow ?

I’ll be honest, I’m undecided as of now and it’ll depend on a couple of mates, I can’t be arsed to go on my own and be unlucky enough to sit next to some prat slating Villa all afternoon (though there would be room to move you’d imagine).

The FA Cup has become as inconvenient as International friendlies to sides with an eye on precious league points which is all basically.

The top, bottom and middle teams all play weakened sides. The Blades will probably turn out a second string against us.

Man U pulled out of the competition altogether with full agreement from the FA. Says it all really.

Didn’t we have a match on FA Cup final day last season ? It was once given it’s own precious day as the last domestic match of the season.

To say that you’ll go down for winning it is ridiculous, but managers do look to the next league game over winning a tie. Lambert is guilty of being honest.

Ironic, he’s usually lambasted on here for ‘spinning transfer activity’ to sell season tickets.

“Roberto Martinez said today the FA Cup is unique in world football after Paul Lambert claimed most Premier League bosses would rather do without the competition.”

“Martinez, though, believes that the Cup must be preserved. He said: “The FA Cup is unique. There are cup competitions across the world but there is nothing like what we have in this country. The Cup brings tradition and is quite unique with it’s unpredictability and the fact that anyone is entitled to chase the dream. We are going to give it everything we’ve got.”

spot on by martinez, that is exactly what the cup is all about, its the very spirit of everthing that is good about football.
still we should be able to rest players and still beat sheff utd tomorrow and when a team is in our position a good cup run is good for the club, what else have we to look forward to this season? a lot of tough games the majority of which we will loose but hopefully get enough points to survive, not very mouth watering is it?
so a good run is good for all, the club, the team and the fans, see if anyone on their way to Wembley on final day if they still think its shite and a waste of time.
