If we beat Sunderland this Saturday at home which I expect us to do so we should be 10th on 18 points.I will be extremely happy with 10th.We need to knock on the head the early defensive errors and hold firm and score first. If we do this regularly I have no doubt we will be 10 th.The look of Steve Clarkes face when Westwood scored was a picture his face read”I’ve just soiled my BAGGY pants……Shit on the baggies……UTV….We know what you are….UTV SOTB…….

Early defensive errors always seem to happen in first 10 mins of away matches. Question is why hasnt lamberk addressed this

Proberbly players are human mate and make mistakes. The better the player the fewer the mistakes.Bacunas was awful they all make howlers mate can’t always be perfect can they.Lambert does need to eradicate the mistakes but even so Lambert isn’t kicking the ball is he.We have started to get clean sheets so it’s not all bad.We lie mid table I said we would by Xmas.If we come into January 10th I have no doubt we will finish no lower than 12th which will be a solid improvement.if we make 45 points or more I will be happy in the knowing Lambert has moved forward. We could end up with a few players in January and about 6-7 in the summer or 2-3 quality and then maybe the following season push for a higher position…UTV

I don’t share your optimism JD. We are being found out and if you think finished 12th is progress then we really are in trouble. Yes I don’t think we will be relegated but only because teams below us are utter shite. Why would lambert spend in jan if we are about 12th there is no need to.

Finishing 10th to 12th after being comfortably midtable all season is progress over last season.

It may not be where we would like to be involved in the league, but we can only look to improve season on season.

You’re just a totally negative prat who would moan that we hadn’t won the league by enough points if it ever happened.

As long as your happy with mediocraty vaze then fair enough and good luck to you. Me I’m not happy with it and most villa fans I know who are st holders arnt happy either. Look at the progress saints have made bottom 3 last year top 4 this year. Ok they won’t finish there but that’s what I call progress

Vaze, we all have to admit, yes, we are better than last year, but are we happy in that its nail biting games for us this year. I’m ready to wait till January and see if we do spend , its not Lambert fault, its Lerner at the end of the day, yes its progress for Villa so far but their are shite teams in the premier league, I want Aston Villa to be back among the big boys and not a mediocre team that we could turn into. I’ll be in the Villa Tavern lads Saturday before the game another 3 points for Christmas will make me happy.

It is great to see Villa finally gaining some points from losing positions. This alone is a massive improvement on last season and speaks volumes for the development Lambert and the squad have put in so far. It just shows a lot of character and I look forward to seeing the squad showing more of that same commitment for 90 mins. Nevertheless, it is all positive signs for the future.

After three seasons of relegation battles, I think a season of actual stability and a mid-table finish would be a great sign of improvement. I’m sure we’ll be up there with the big boys soon enough, but for anyone to assume we’d be top 6/8 over night is asking a lot. Of course we could use with some more signings, but for the first time in years I’m not actually worried we’re going to be in danger at the end of the season. Who knows maybe in a season, or two, we may be fighting for a 6th place spot?

It’s that same old discussion again and it’s a toughy it really is. Are we better? Are we improving? Mathematically yes, numbers don’t lie. But I’m still unsure about our football, I’ve lost all ideas of how to pinpoint what I mean. Simply we were playing better football last season. Maybe we have a little more luck this season? I don’t know, I think we do. It’s hard to say we have more fight now than we did last season (bar the christmas period during those hammerings where all the lads were hiding) it’s at least the same imo, we have a young hungry team. That hasn’t changed.

I think the main difference and a very notbale one is that our lads do have a years more experience, and I think this is helping us a shit load due to our poor play.
Also the defence is bang on at the moment, yes there are errors but this is commonplace in every team in the bloody world, the tackle Vlaar made on Monday night? take a bow son, beautiful it was, what a turn of form for him individually.

I’m not as pessimistic as I was, I tok a lot of perspective, especially after comments Big Sam made before our game against them, a lot of teams are struggling, it’s a poor and very open season, everyone can beat everyone. Mid table is an imrovement and I’ll be satisfied that progress is being made, I won’t necessarily be happy but satisfied at the very least. We use that going into January, buy a couple more cheap hungry lads and then I hope bring in some qulity in the summer, then we can really push on….I hope. COYL

You’ve hit the nail on the head we are playing anti football now but luck has certainly been on our side for once this year but we can’t keep relying in that. 2-3 losses could put us back into bottom 3 though I can’t honestly see us going down this year mainly because of our goal diff.

I find myself in a very similar place MD8.
It’s why I wrote in the thoughts last night that it seemed Albion had a plan.
What I meant was that we don’t seem to have one.

I can’t see what we’re trying to achieve and I think this is actually the reason that we’ve come back so many times.
It strikes me Lambert is playing it by ear from the kick off and then adjusting to suit.

If that’s so, it’s doomed to never get us very far imo.

You’re also correct in suggesting the league is shite and the footy has got worse.

I’ve always said that I think the result is always the most important thing at the end of the day, but the fact is I don’t find us very enjoyable to watch of late.
We create next to nothing and goals are either scraped or speculative when we do actually score.

That’s possibly harsh, as they all count.
But I can’t get past the feeling that we have a squad of young tryers, with no sign of class whatsoever, the obvious apart.
I don’t recall a Villa side ever passing so poorly either and that’s a massive worry for me.

But yes, we have a fighting spirit.
Trouble is, that’s only any use in adversity, imo.
We need much more than that.

I totally agree, while I didn’t get to see the game today, most games it looks like Villa wait at least half an hour of the game to see how the other team’s gonna play, while attempting to counter the entire time until Lambert attempts to notice their style and “attempts” to counter that.

Oohah how you do like a good whinge mate.
First Dunne, Clarke, Collins are up for crime against football then it was we couldn’t keep a clean sheet, followed by Ron Vlaar the biggest bag of shit since bags of shit were invented and now we don’t start playing till we are behind.
Just where will it all end?

It will end when we win the league so never !! I was right about dunne he was awful and anyone with half a brain coukd see vlaar was crap last year. This year he is a different player and arguably our best player now and iv given him credit and admitted I was wrong about him. Probably the best iv seen him play v WBA on mon. But surely even you can see there is an awful lot wrong with the team especially in midfield. If we had got Barry I’m convinced we would of been a comfortable top 8 team this season.

Absolutely Badger mate, I agree with all that.

That’s what I was touching on when I said Lambert seems to possibly be a litle tactically naive. It does seem we don’t have a game plan or that we have one and if it doesn’t work so be it. However, Monday night was refreshing to see him gamble on all 3 subs like that, we need more of that from him when in a situation like, sometimes it pays off sometimes it doesn’t but the change is needed either way.

I don’t think lambert has a clue and us learning on the job with the youngsters. It’s the blind leading the blind I’m afraid. Instead of playing good football he now plays mcleish type tactics hoofball to benteke and that’s pretty much it. When mcleish did this we all moaned just because he managed the scum lambert is doing exactly the same thing yet we are all happy with it. We basically Havnt got the quality of player to pass the ball none of our midfield can string 2 passes together. It’s just awful.

Sorry Oohah but the stats don’t support your argument.
McClown only won 9 matches in 42 attempts, (no attempt is the wrong word, tried not to lose is probably more apt) and had a win rate of 21.43 with on paper a superior squad.
Lambert’s won 21 in 60, got a win rate of 35.00 and at the same time had to completely rebuild the squad within tight financial restraints, so come on a bit of credit where credits due Rome wasn’t built in day.

What I find here is that some are always trying to shit all over anything.Picking holes all the time whenever they get the chance.Look when this season started I looked at the fixtures and was slightly worried thinking this is going to be a tough season but I don’t feel that now.It doesn’t matter what it is that is making us winners or losers or how it is happening.AVFC are no different from any other team in the Prem they all win and lose and sometimes you get luck.We have Sunderland at home on Saturday and I think we will win.The WBA game wasn’t much in it only silly mistakes cost us our goals. But the goals we scored were good goals. We are scoring, getting clean sheets and gaining points. We will be better this season than last and I believe the summer transfer window will be an exiting one….UTV

Lads.. 40M is a min needed in summer if Benteke is off..

A ST AM DM LB on 35-40k a week is not asking for twoo much.. the two in middle would transform us..

For two seasons i have been mentioning Mohamed Salah.. he scored again last night.. but probably out of our reach now..

Basle have a few very tasty players we should be looking at.. Stocker is a good player too..

Batshuayi should be Benteke’s replacement. Arguably Belgium’s next best up and coming striker that’s already performing. Lestienne for AM/Winger. Two Belgians that are extremely exciting to watch. Salah’s far out of our reach, though a great name but don’t think he was plausible for the last 2 seasons as he’s been in fine form and is being watched by just about everyone though Stocker would be a great signing. Honestly would be surprised if we went for a LB unless Bennett left. Feel it’ll be all about replacing Benteke if and when he leaves, and the midfield. Could look in Belgium for a DM as well, they have some really big, quick, strong players like
I have read Lambert was again seen at a CSKA game, now Honda’s off to Milan, but someone like Musa, Zuber or Milanov to play behind Benteke, Wernbloom for the midfield spot, But then my whole life could be a lie and he wasn’t there.

As for Basel, weren’t we linked to Sio once? Another young Egyptian of theirs, Mohamed El Nenny, looks quite talented himself.

Transfer periods are so much fun. 🙂
