In non-made up news by Talksport news, Tjarron Chery missed first day of training with Groningen and expects Villa to meet their asking price.

I personally think this guy could end a great signing. Groningen fans are upset he is leaving. He was in the top 5 for involvements in goals in the eredevise last season and apparently has that killer unlocking defence pass we don’t have. And a great free kick. I’ve read he would of been in the Dutch international setup a long time ago but has been too lightweight until he bulked up in the last year or two. Could be the perfect time to buy in my opinion.

Kinda sad you feel embarrassed by this. Actually pretty highly rated, Liverpool target in fact. 21, already a Swedish international. Players gotta start from somewhere, no? But then you’d rather us pay what, 8m for a crap Premier League Left Back?

In case you missed my post earlier, I will repeat it here!

10 reasons why buying cheap or taking players for free RARELY works
        Senderos
        Cole
        Tonev
        Sylla
        Bennett
        Stevens
        Helenius
        Bowery
        Lowton
        Westwood
NOT one of the above would get regular gametime in a top 10 PL team. I repeat, our supposed transfer targets are embarrassing and not befitting of a club the size of Villa!

That shows nothing about whether you can or can’t buy stars for cheap. Fact is, you can. And you can build an entire club on it.

All that shows is we did a crap job of it, which no one is arguing. Whether that was bad scouting or purely down to Lambert I don’t know.

Andrew, Wilkins is just coming out with the usual bollocks that all new-comers to any club come out with.

That statement means absolutely nothing, so why mention it?

This all depends on whether you believe the press. We must have bid for about 10-12 players by now if the press are to be believed.
If you take loads of punts you will be right at some point.

I’m not asking for 12 – 20 mil signings, just proven players x 4 in the 6-8 mil bracket. Keep Benteke and Delph and I will be happy. Its not too much to ask for is it?

Andrew…I dont mind risking a couple from the ‘bargain basement’ to integrate with proven players, in fact I’m all for that. Some of the ones I have listed above may have turned out to be decent PL players with quality around them. But no, we threw them in at the deep end and flirted with relegation. We may have dented their confidence as well, which is totally unfair on them!

I agree, but the fact is today is the opening of the transfer window, you’re getting upset because of a few links to players that may or may not happen, but we have 2 months to go still. We could very well spend 50m this summer for all we know, but just because we’re linked to some good youth doesn’t mean its the end of our season already.

But we’ll see better signings than under Lambert who was just clueless.

Andrew, this is the problem, that I don’t believe you see.
How can anyone improve our income if we have nothing to sell anyone?

The Prem is becoming more and more like a business everyday.
So who’s going to buy into a club that has been failing and shows no sign that it will do any better in the future?

The club HAS to invest, if it’s to be viewed as a better prospect.

While I’m still in the frying pan and fire camp, something has to change.

Thank him for the goals, wish him the best and move on. Nobody likes a transfer saga, get it sorted and use the funds wisely. There will be more Benteke’s on the continent wanting to ply their trade in the premier league. Even Austin at £15m would be good business as he’s got a great goal tally at all his clubs.

The Liverpool link surprises me though as they’ll have to change their style to accommodate him. Their last big hit man (Andy Carroll) wasn’t really a success.

Some tend to judge before a ball is even kicked Badger, but then some are stuck with that mindset where they just love to criticise and moan.

I don’t think Sherwood would of ever took the job without reassurances. I don’t think Wilkins, who for me is a wonderful bit of business, would of joined us and neither do I think Richards would of signed to be fighting relegation every season. Add that to Lambert saying we’re now in a better financial position than we have been for a long time (he said it on a sky sports interview a month or so ago) and I think a few may be surprised on how much we do actually spend in this window.

By the way, whatever happened to the various ‘ITK’s’ who used to pop-up on here at every transfer window or every time there was supposed to be something happening at the club?
Most of them proved to be ‘know-nothings’ in the end, of course, but one or two used to get some real clues out of VP a few days before anyone else, and were at least quite entertaining!
