Aston Villa 1 – 1 Swansea; Tedious and boring

So the job I had to go and do today wasn’t too bad and I managed to get back at about five past three.
Typical of my luck and my first glimpse of the game was watching the re-runs of our goal.
It was a decent goal though and cheered me up no end.
A nice through ball from Weimann and a smart finish from Gabby; good stuff.

I wasn’t cheered up for long though, as we soon regressed to our usual tactics of two defensive banks of four, which allowed Swansea to come at us at will.

And when you’re constantly being battered, it’s pretty obvious the opposition are going to score eventually, which is exactly what they did.

It didn’t take long for me to start thinking “why don’t we up the pace, close them down faster and try and stop them playing?”; after all, it’s about the only thing we’re any good at as a team, in my opinion.
Anyway, it did actually happen for a few minutes in the second half and you could hear the crowd instantly trying to get behind the team.
It was short lived though.

Anyway, going back to early on in the game where we were winning, I found myself thinking about something else.
Yes, I know, I was doing a lot of thinking, instead of just concentrating on the game, like I always try to do.
So my question to myself was “does your perception of the way the team’s playing change depending on the score at the time?”

I determined that it probably does and decided to try and analyse the game more than just try to enjoy it for what it is; a game.

Even when we were one up, I’d decided that we are genuinely a poor side.
Swansea’s goal obviously did nothing to change that opinion and me expecting Swansea to go on and win the game changed it even less.

I’m probably boring you. Which is exactly how I found the game. Boring.
Boring as hell.

Nothing has changed. We sit back and try and soak up the pressure and resort to punting the ball long for Gabby to run onto. It’s so tedious, it’s almost laughable.
And this is at home!

While I thought we were poor, I also thought I’d have a look at some stats, just to check.
I’m not a massive fan of them, but they can be indicative of a trend;

Villa first.

Total passes; 252 vs 721
Percentage of passes long; 23% vs 10.8%
Passing accuracy; 57.1% vs 85.9%

And to cap it all, we had 27.1% possession.

When you consider I don’t think Swansea were very good today, that’s simply appalling.

I’m getting fed up of being bored watching the Villa.
If Lerner genuinely watches us every week, surely he can see just how poor we are?
And has to do something?

Trouble is, I really don’t see anything changing.
