Amavi to Sevilla is OFF: Shenanigans or a serious problem?

According to Spanish sources, the Amavi move has been knocked back after the player failed a medical which showed that the player has a significant risk of the cruciate knee injury that he suffered while playing for France, re-occurring.
Now it’s well known that Sevilla will try any trick in the book to get a player’s price down (and why not? it’s good business sense, something we’ve sorely lacked recently) and if so, you’d hope we’ll give them short shrift and not even entertain the idea of them getting him on a loan or even at cut price.
And indeed “significant risk” is a matter of judgement that might well mean they’re trying it on.
For any expert in any area, you can always find someone who thinks the opposite, after all.

But my worry is what if this is all plausible and Amavi does have that significant risk?
Even though there is supposed to be a fair amount of interest in the player, surely this will see him being valued at a much lower worth?

All in all, this is a fairly big bombshell, as surely we were banking on getting a good few quid for Amavi, which in turn, must have made his sale pivotal to our spending plans?
I don’t want to be the doom-monger that some of you paint me out to be, but the fact is, this could quite easily put paid to any more spending in this window, because if as we suspect, we wanted another two or three players in, the sums are beginning to not add up

You would have to hope that Sevilla are indeed just playing their usual games.
But even then, just the talk of this will surely mean any other interest will wane, at best.
If we were in a better financial position, I’d have liked to see Dr Xia tell Sevilla that we’ll never do business with them again.
The trouble is, I suspect our hand might already have been forced and we’ll have to let him go on the cheap.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens.

i think we should all remember, it was first game in which loads of changes were made probably in both games. its about giving them minutes of real game time.

i would love to throw the book at richards lol only if it was made out of concrete

signing off for the evening. glad i was able to watch that game. cheers to YouTube lol

great coverage of the games last nite. i watched the kid game like bill. so i scrolled back and got the posts from the other game this morning. i feel like i watched them both now πŸ™‚

i think it was a good night. two injuries out of about 30 players isn’t too bad. if they aren’t too serious. players should be fitter. i really have my concerns about micah richards. love to hear what bill thought about him.

he did little defensive, was beaten by attacker a few times in a one on one. he drifts out off position. he went on one of his mad runs into opposition half, but they took the ball off him easy. samba sounds like a more capable replacement , plus two youngsters bedeau & toner came on towards the end both looked better defenders than richards

    Hi Nath,
Well Richards we can do without he lost the ball more time I can count, to be fair he did cover for Hutton who went on the attack, last night showed me how important a wing man needed, McCormack and Hogan both in the box to receive them balls, thinking about it with Terry and Chester a pretty sound defence, i hope.

Flicked between the games – impressions

We played the more cohesive football at Telford
McCormack looked up for it which has to be good
Agree with Langford on Samba and Bill on Richards
    Thought Vertout looked decent

According to claims in the French media, Aston Villa defender Aly Cissokho is on the verge of joining Yeni Malatyaspor. The Frenchman has already been linked this summer with another Turkish side, as newly promoted Goztepe also held an interest.

RMC Sport have reported Cissokho has travelled to Turkey, and as long he passes a medical, he’ll sign for Malatyaspor. It’s expected the Aston Villa player will complete his transfer soon after three seasons at the Championship club

Season long loan and then he is a free agent – if he performs well and we get promoted, might get him on permanent for nothing.

great news Johnstone signs πŸ™‚ he will be a good signing. he is playing for his future and when we get promoted we could attract a better keeper/ or sign him permanently on free like hitch says. winner all round

also i managed to watch the other friendly / on that you tube channel. was a better performance than the kid game. i thought Callum O’Hare did very good and Keinan Davis led the line really well. davis is a type of forward that is needed to play the fancy football everybody dreams about.

looking forwards to the shrewsbury game. manager will have to pick a squad, so we will get a indication of the players likely in and those that are not in his plans

Agreed Nath thought we played the better football at Telford.

Langford – any news from your mate. The Mail seem to imply that Elmohamady (sp.) is likely to move to VP – even suggesting he might have been here for today’s friendly – but then it is the media!

our activities are slow in transfers. i don’t have any inside knowledge on this situation. but i believe its the fair play regulations. as i believe we are 1million under this rule. so unable to spend on transfers. until they sell. but nobody (clubs) wants to buy our crap πŸ™ they know we are desperate and they are playing the waiting game. knowing villa will have to reduce or miss out on their incoming targets.

this is very frustrating. but its also proof we have been a soft touch in recent past,to other clubs and players offering them much more wages than they deserve and longer contracts as well.

Morning all! Only 21 days to go before we tear this league to shreds!

More than happy with Johnstone. I’m convinced the he’ll do the business. What a defence we have, the best in this division my a country mile.

My man…as I said last week, said that Elmohamady was in Brum for a medical last Sunday. I actually saw the Hull City tweet saying ‘Elmo_27, wishing the players good luck for next season’. Havent heard from him since! I am guessing that the Amavi saga pushed things back a little. Hull were also waiting to replace Elmohamady, they have now done this by loaning a Chelsea youngster! My guess is that the Mail has probably got this right! Perhaps the Cissokho move is now funding it?

Mitchell Clark – 18 years old and Welsh international at U19’s. Member if Academy squad but also played for U23’s last season and has been at Villa for some time – all according to OS

His pick up and run from defence to earn the penalty was very impressive.

england reached 4 finals in youth competitions this summer. suliman also defender is representing england this weekend hopefully. we should build villa with a MADE IN GB stamped on it. or better made in west midlands πŸ™‚ i believe its what us fans want. we don’t mind a few johnny foreigner, but we want our own out their fighting for our causes

And no, I’m not saying having home grown talent isn’t a bad thing. It’s great, but they’re just nowhere near as talented as their foreign counterparts for the same price.

        finally we agree on something

i don’t mind a few none British, but i want to see young local lads progress through the villa set up. go on to represent england. πŸ™‚

i also am angry about offering long lucrative contracts to players like richards. who gave him a contract worth the amounts hes on and the length, he was a good prospect at manchester city years ago. done very little since. i expect not many clubs were in direct competition with us to sign him. so the sensible thing was to offer a 12month deal with clauses of better improved deal if he impressed.

we are aston villa and used to produce our own players. we could and should start producing again. to stop wasting money on players wages like richards. he has done little in 24 months and i doubt will contribute anything for the rest of his contract. i could name more or foreign ones

i think watching the two friendlies we have talented youth. i think this is where we should be were we focussed on. players like davis and green are almost 1st team. grealish has been around that spot for too long. he must start to realize this before he misses the boat. also O’Hare i havent seen before and he preformed really well on the right wing.

we seem to have quite a lot of center backs strength coming through, better already than richards. if they are training with terry and samba that will bring them on lots.

iam liking the squad steve bruce is building. we need to get rid of alot of players. i can see more than green shoots now. the future will be claret and blue

another reason to get the production line of home grown superstars in full flow. have you seen the size of transfers happening in premiership. 55 million for a fullback that was at villa on loan. he is never worth 55million. currently somebody is going to get really hurt playing this game. i can see in the next 5 years to ten some big clubs going to the pan chasing a impossible dream

Has all the hallmarks of an investment type ‘bubble’ – continued and unchecked growth in income at the current rate must be unsustainable as are the ridiculously inflated transfer fees. Wages may be a different dynamic as we do live in a world where ‘entertainers’ are able to command huge incomes.

Would be interesting to hear OLL’s views

got my beer chilling all ready for this game today. πŸ™‚

back to my johnny foreigner bashing. before the premiership their was hardly any foreigners in the english leagues. teams had one or two but these were not on ridiculous amounts of money. if my memory serves me well, the league had rules, you could only field was it 3 foreigners. this was around the time we had the irish players staughton houghton mcgrath even some irish players were halted by this rule. but football was played to better standards than today.

we should aim for 60 70% english players, not go down the route of thinking foreign players are better. we invented the game for goodness sake. i could name loads of foreign that were failures. does mean not having a British passport means they are sure for success. english might cost in transfers but this isn’t my suggestion i said PRODUCE them. once we are producing decent standards we could sell for 100% profitts, instead of paying 55 million for a full back that only real quality is speed
