Aly Cissokho is set to move to Porto on a season long loan deal. Cissokho was brought in by Lambert last season for £3.5 million from Valencia. Cissokho started as Aston Villa’s first choice left-back, but wasn’t favoured under Sherwood because Cissokho isn’t a very attacking left-back. With the arrival of Jordan Amavi and Sherwood liking Bennett both Cissokho and Richardson don’t have a future at Aston Villa. Luna has already left for Eibar on a free transfer.
The 27-year old has reportedly flown into Portugal and is set to finalise a season loan deal with Porto. Cissokho played for Porto in the 2009 season before moving to Lyon for a €15 million the following season. The deal reportedly includes a permanent transfer clause which can be activated at the end of the 2015/16 season.
I did think that when Cissokho joined Aston Villa that he’d be our solution for at least two seasons, unfortunately it wasn’t the case. Cissokho was obviously not our worst left-back at the club for the past few years, some say that he was one of our more solid left-backs throughout the years. But with the addition of Amavi, it seems as though there is no place for Cissokho and he is clearly not rated by Sherwood. I’d feel as though Cissokho would be the perfect back up to Amavi.

Sorry people but Sherwood’s got this one wrong, well according to the stats on Talk sport anyway. They have us down last season as scoring only 2 goals from crosses and Tekkers found the net 15 times in 33 games so what he (Sherwood) is saying don’t really add up and smacks of sour grapes to me, he’d been better keeping his trap shut on this one imo.

I’m with BWS on this one, I think it was a last throw of the dice by a desperate Sherwood to try and get Benteke to stay. I don’t blame him in trying anything to get him to stay, but he was basically labelling Benteke a one trick pony which he clearly is not. Hope to God that Sherwood’s going to be more than just a one trick pony himself, this season will give us the answer!

I think what Sherwood said to Benteke, should have stayed between Sherwood and Benteke, it is grossly unprofessional for Benteke to start spouting about a club that took a punt on him when he was going through his car jacking misdemeanour.
He sounds like he thinks he saved us on his own, Sherwood galvanised the whole team not just Benteke…. Benteke should shut up !
I’d agree that whatever was said should have stayed ‘private’ – as far as I can see nobody from VP has come out with any public comments about Benteke, so why he’s gone public with this is beyond me.

if you analyze benteke statement and it hasnt been altered, there is a bit of bitterness and venom there, which brings me back to he was one of the ones told to find a new club, if we are contemplating spunking £100,000 a week for adebayor i feel that would of kept benteke here. i think we will have to wait for one of them to write a book before we can find the truth of it.

Pretty much every podcast I’ve listened to this week leading up the season have also been slagging Villa off too… Apparently Sherwood has signed a lot of questionable, risky signings and Villa are surely doomed for losing of course Benteke, but also the great English powerhouses of Delph and Cleverley. The same Delph who was good for at best one season and Cleverley who was never our player and rarely made a difference during his tenure. Also now that Lerner is staying all the supporters are despondent and besides themselves – personally I could care less about the sale of the club as long as money was made available. To be honest, I’m happy to have Lerner stay on – I can’t imagine what a world of trouble we would be in if we where sold to a Chinese owner before the market crashed.
I think it is fair to be cautious about Sherwood for the longterm, but I honestly believe the club is in a better position today than it ever has been in the last few years. For me, Fox and the restructuring of the club as a whole is making the difference – clear intent and direction.
Problem is Sherwoid has stated that all this season is about is avoiding relegation so you can’t blame them

– Early 70s we got promoted from Div 3, what a fantastic time that was
– Early 80s winning the League, European and Super Cups
– Next season, it’s going to be a cracker

The late 70’s were pretty good too: Saunders’ team weren’t quite ready for the Big Prize, but could never be taken for granted by any of the then-top sides. I remember it as a time when no visiting team wanted to play at VP, and on their day Villa were capable of beating anyone.
