I was reading the Sunday People in a cafe this morning and came across this story, which quite frankly amazed me.
It’s not the fact that the club’s up for sale, but more the eye-watering amount.
I mean, if you believe that Randy Lerner is struggling to achieve a sale for the Villa at £150 million, how can Jeremy Peace expect to get the same or even more for West Brom?
That’s not being disrespectful to the Albion, but surely they just aren’t as big a club as Aston Villa are they? We have a bigger turnover, a bigger fanbase and arguably better prospects if we can get our act together.
Of course, there is one big difference, in that Albion actually make money. They made £10 million profit in the last figures.
And while making money in the real world is always a plus, is it really that important in footy land? After all, very few clubs make money and indeed, that’s not really what it’s about.
I wish Peace the best of luck in his sale, but I really wonder if these figures are at all accurate. According to the article though, a couple of seriously interested parties have been shown around the ground.
My opinion is that if Albion are worth £150 million, then Villa can’t fail to be worth £200 million.
If we stay in the Premier league, that is.
It’ll be interesting to see how this one pans out. After all, didn’t the Blues go for more money than the Villa?

The asking price is not the traded price. There are a couple of reasons that come to mind.
The coincidence of Albion being up for sale at the same price as Villa is suspicious to me, I know a lot about false markets and ramps. For a backhander, party A – trying to sell – asks party B to offer something similar but worth less than the goods party A is selling at the same price to the same prospective buyer. This is intended to give the buyer confidence in the price A is asking, because he can cross-reference it, and it appears to be the better offer. In reality the buyer is being set up, both prices are inflated.
Why are owners who have been in the game for 10 years getting out? I believe they think the current TV deal is daftly priced and will never be repeated, which means the time to sell is now before pay TV customers get their package costs for the next season and viewing figures and advertising revenues drop. Every EPL game is now shown on Mexican or Russian gambling websites in HD, so subscribers may start leaking away.
The first part sounds plausible OLL and indeed I’ve heard of this sort of thing before.
Where I’m not so convinced is that I don’t see Jeremy Peace doing Lerner any favours.
As for the second part, this is more convincing and I think you’re right. Owners can see the game has very probably peaked or is about to peak and now is as good a time as any.
It’s about £149 mil overpriced fucking Rob dogs.

Why suddenly a massive Darren bent love in ? He had his chances at villa and Fulham and wasted them. Benteke over bent all day long. Lots of players are scoring for fun in the championship doesn’t mean they can translate it to the prem.
Desperation goes a long way in how much a team will be sold for in all honesty. Lerner is absolutely desperate to get out. While Albion are up for sale, I don’t think they’d be too desperate to sell and would wait for the 150-200m if anyone would ever offer it.
Sherwood can take a lot from watching Pardew’s Palace. They play with such confidence, aren’t scared and there’s a lot of hunger in the side. They’re also still able to keep a very strong defensive line.

This is interesting, in that I’ve seen the “the result tomorrow doesn’t matter that much” argument elsewhere.
I can’t say I agree with it myself.
It’s not the result in itself, it’s more to do with how it will affect morale, particularly amongst the supporters, imo.
If we lose tomorrow I can pretty much guarantee it will be all doom and gloom.
After all, we lost to one of the best teams in the league on saturday, yet you would think we had lost a banker (which is what tomorrow really ought to be).
It’s why tomorrow is absolutely monster, for me.
We really don’t want to lose this one.
I can see why, because we don’t have this disgustingly hard run in like most think we do. They’re all winnable games, other than City at the Etihad. If we were home I’d be confident of a possible draw.
If we lose tomorrow, it’s not the end of the world. People just like to think everything bad about Villa so they can feel sorry for themselves. However our fans seem clueless in reality. You gotta wonder how one result means we’re going down, do they not realize that the teams around us are around us for a reason. They don’t get results, they don’t get points. They’re not all magically going to stop getting so many points that we’re screwed after 1 result. That’s mainly what baffles me about our fans. Biggest over reactors I’ve ever seen.

My QPR mate is VERY nervous about tonight. Let’s hope their team is as well.. The fact there’s a bit less pressure on us will help.
Vlaar is fit Andrew so I would think TS will try and use him – possibly Clark going to LB? Is the amnesty now in place for bookings?

It’s possible, but I don’t think he’ll change up Okore and Clark, unless either aren’t 100% fit. Maybe Clark and Vlaar then, as I’d guess he liked Baker at LB.

On the Bent debate – I would have him back if we could strike the right deal. WithTS playing more down the wings he’ll get a better service and just think of Benteke / Bent partnership that actually works! We should get rid Weimann to make room – ‘fraid another player that isn’t going to cut it in the PL.
We’re going to need Bent’s goals when we’re in the Championship!

just got a feeling QPR will turn us over tonight, the teams around us are picking up points against decent sides and we have Spurs and Man City next, that I can’t realistically see us getting anything from….. Sorry Randy but I think you will be needing to drop your asking price.
