Gabby Agbonlahor does not deserve a new deal, unless it is at a reduced salary IMO. He has severe limits as a forward. He cannot hit the ball hard, his heading ability is below average. Those are detractions that he cannot alter, but the main problem is his laziness which has to change. He does not make any runs off the ball to take away a defender and allow a colleague more room. His inability to read a target man’s knock downs was disguised during the Heskey partnership because nobody could read Heskey even if you were sitting in the stand. However it is now apparent Gabby cannot read any strike partner, contrast that with Weimann. Finally his outstanding ability which is to outsprint anybody away from half way and place the ball wide of the keeper is completely useless if the opponents have 8 men between him and their goal. Gabby cannot play Arsenal-style one touch around the box to unlock the defence and he cannot shoot hard enough and straight enough to score from outside the area. He is an away-day specialist.

El Ahmadi has improved – I am happy for him to stay, and I would like to see Weimann stay because he will be good again if partnered by different players, which seems likely since Benteke will go. I think also Weimann is intelligent enough to improve, if only given better advice from the management which is in need of urgent change.

OLL I couldn’t have said it better. AGBONLAHOR should be sold. If he stays I wonder if it’s because of the old boy network? He is not good enough and very very Lazy

do u think Vlaar deserves one? he has really improved this season and a million times better than last year. but worried about his injury record as he seems to miss long periods at vital times

I’ve aways said Abonglahor runs like hot and cold water, I remember him getting a bollocking from me in the Doug E stand and the twat got an hat trick, all the crowd said keep it up, I think he cares but some days gives up, could it be he thinks the team been picked wrong and shows it in his play? He has the pace but as OLL said cannot shoot, cannot head a ball, but to me he still has that something the team needs, which takes us back to the manager he is the one that’s doing things wrong and you see it I see it, then why don’t we get the backing from Faulkner and the board to give to that prick in the states. We can all see that arse is not on seats and boxes empty revenue has to show things are not right , either find better accounting company or sell.

Sorry Ted , yes he does tend to hold back in some games but I still think he can be dangerous to defender’s, at times. If you ask me its dressing room problems and why do I think that ? Simple the lads a Villa man and Fan, it must hurt to see Lambert f*,k the side up like he has with bad out of position player’s, I would say out of our squad of player’s you could piss 20 off out of the club as bottom league dross.

Jesus lads what is this Gabby bashing day? Ok so he aint Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi rolled into one but then again we aint Barcelona or Real Madrid and he aint on half a mill a week.
The lads Villa through and through, loyal and that’s a rare thing these days, something you can’t buy, something to be cherished and admired.
OK he’s got his flaws but how many forwards terrorised Viditch in his pomp? On his day he’s a f**king nightmare to play against so come on people give it a break, get off his back he’s one of our own.

I’ve got Gabby’s name on the back of my shirt. We all bemoan players with no loyalty to the clubs they play for, Gabby (and Albrighton, while we’re here) has it in spades. He (and Albrighton) has a place at Villa. Don’t forget he’s a striker, not a left sided player. So what if he’s an away specialist, we have a squad of 25 players, interchange him with someone like Grealish when a 4-4-2 is what’s needed.

loyalty only works if two parties work benteke has scored nearly half amount of goals gabby has in probarly one third games on a third of his money why does gabby not pass the ball to benteke either if you watch he will give it to nearly anybody else time to sell and get centre forwad who scores more than 5 in a season thats what they are for forwads scoring

There are two arguments here. I am not faulting Gabby’s loyalty, and yes I really would like to see a team of all Brummie born lads that can hold its own in the Prem. The city is big enough to generate enough footballers of that standard. I am with the crowd too in forgiving players who are Villa fans a few more bad games than I would an overseas mercenary.

But go back to the comments after the Stoke game and see how many of the regular bloggers were appalled by Gabby’s display.

OK the majority want to give him his new contract, I concede. But I have an idea, let’s pay him by the mile!

    Gabby’s an interesting one.
While I agree, that he’s not a very good player overall, he does offer something different with his pace.
And on it’s day, it can be devastating.

The trouble is, he doesn’t use it often enough or it just doesn’t work.
And if he’s losing interest because he doesn’t believe the team is being played correctly, I’d get rid just for that reason.

Then again, I agree with the comments that say he’s total Villa, which is worth recognising.
And that he shouldn’t be played wide.

Bear in mind, he’s probably our highest paid starter on £56k a week from memory.
Would I give him another contract at that money?
No way, unless it was mainly incentive based.

I addressed Delph in a previous article and would give Vlaar a new contract, but only if he’s due one imminently.

    Jay Dee,
While I agree with your sentiment, he’s hardly a Gerrard mate.

He lived very close to where I do now, but that isn’t enough for me.
You have to perform in the Prem and if you take the fact that he’s a local lad away from it, would you say he’s been good enough overall?

    I don’t know mate.

As for tomorrow, well I’m hoping we’ll get a preview post by Adam.
    Tough call for me.

Too be fair, Gerrard did try to get a move away to Chelsea after putting in a transfer request.

Once upon a time a well known football player from Liverpool who when he was a youngster got into a bit of grief with the son of a well known Liverpool gangster, another well known Liverpool gangster sorted it out (one that this well known football player had testified as character witness at his trial).
Roll on a few years later and this player was on the verge of joining a big London club, it was allegedly a done deal, that was until the gangster that had sorted the problem turned up on the players parents door step and told them – “Tell your boy he’s going nowhere “..
          The end.

Has any team of any significance ever came in for Gabby……I’d like to have seen how committed he would have been had Chelsea came in for £100k pw. But let’s be honest, nobody in the top 10 would want him anyway!! No spacial awareness, shit shot, shit head, shit pass, shit touch, would struggle to read a magazine and needs 150yds in behind the defence to be effective! Sign him if only for comedy value of that ridiculous tache!!

That’s why he plays for us because he’s shit. He is just a slightly better quality of shit than the other turds we have. Though from what iv heard about gabby he is a home boy I don’t think he would ever leave anyway. I think arsenal showed interest in him some years ago. No decent player in their right mind would sign for us at the moment and who can blame them.
