£8.5 Million Bid for Jordan Ayew Accepted

Aston Villa have had a bid accepted from Lorient for striker Jordan Ayew. Ayew is a young striker from Ghana that has often played either up front or out wide. That will explain why he had scored 12 goals in 26 games for Lorient last season. Ayew is an experienced player having made over 111 appearances with Marseille and 28 appearances for Ghana.

Skysports believes that Ayew is a direct replacement for Christian Benteke and will be arriving in Birmingham in the next 24 hours to discuss terms and hold a medical. Jordan Ayew is the younger brother of Andre Ayew who had recently transferred to Swansea.

Ayew is a good player, however his stats don’t look to great. For a £8.5 million fee it could end up being a good deal as Ayew can play in either midfield or up front. It’s unsure weather Ayew will be Villa’s only forward brought into the club. Nonetheless having watched a few international games, Ayew does look decent and will add to Villa’s squad doubtfully. He is only 23 and will certainly develop with the aid of Tim Sherwood and the other staff at the club.

Adam, not wishing to split hairs but Sky saying £12m. I believe we may have an initial bid knocked back. See Wilkins was quoted as saying would only spend a fraction on Benteke’s replacement – I think 1/3 represents a reasonable fraction!

I’ve been reading that Skysports made a mistake with the fee. It was 12 million euros. That price tag makes more sense in my opinion, as earlier it was rumoured Villa would bid £7 million.

      I could be wrong though

He scored 13 goals in 28 appearances last season for a lowly Lorient. He played in all sorts of roles for Marseille so I don’t think you can judge his goal scoring record there but he has scored against the best in France and scored in the champions league. Looks a prospect as he is only young and hopefully is just coming of age. I’ve seen French articles and agents reporting £7-8m being accepted for basically the last 24 hours. Who knows what the real fee is but his agent has been quoted saying the deal is moving through quickly.

I’m thinking this is another potentially great looking signing. Quite impressed with our new approach to scouting.
H60, I wish I could split hairs over £4M!!!! LOL!

We’re also now clear favourites to sign Cambiassio – what’s the general view should we sign him?

On change of Topic. The real Madrid vs man city game is on live here in oz.. and guess who just picked up a hamstring injury and got stretched off… Delph.

    1. It’s live on SS1 here too, that karma’s a biatch lol !!!

      1. Darren avatar

Real Madrid making a mockery of man city at the moment. 3-0 already and sterling is getting dominated by Ramos.

Only a meaningless friendly and Real Madrid arnt a bad team themselves tbh

Friendly or champions league Real Madrid will spank the manc’s.

      Really that’s funny

  6. Another Sky preference – the ‘big 5’ have had all their pre-season games shown by Sky. Just looking up when i can catch some pre-season action from Villa, Stoke, Norwich, Newcastle etc etc…

Sick of Sky they are so bias towards top 5 it’s untrue.

Time to see how Sherwood copes with the Lerner style bargain basement transfer windows.

Lambert did a few seasons….I bet Tim won’t!!!

Off topic, but I’m taking the young lad to his first match at Villa Park against Sunderland. What’s the best way to get to Villa Park from Birmingham Airport ? Suggestions welcome.

Driving? I’d take the train from Birmingham International and change for Aston at New Street…

    2. I take it that you’re flying in ?

Get the train from Birmingham International to New Street and then change for either Witton or Aston.

That, or get the train to New Street, if you have time have lunch somewhere nice (Old Joint Stock in St Phillips Square or The Old Contemptibles by Snow Hill) and get a taxi to the ground (<£10).

Cheers guys. Flighing in . Usually drive over but flights just so cheap it’s hard to beat. Let’s hope we have all our signings in by then !

I’m worried this is in with potentially Cambiasso and Adebayor loan. We really need goal scorer like Austin and a CB (Okore out til October) Thoughts?

if jordan ayew is anything like his dad then who knows we maybe getting a really good player , cambiasso for a year sounds like good business .

the express are reporting Charlie Austin will only leave for a club in the top half of the Premier League according to Chris Ramsey and is waiting to see if spurs or chelsea make a bid for him and even if they don’t he is happy to stay at QPR. sounds a bit like what i read weeks ago that austin doesn’t want to leave london.

Bham only 1.5 hrs away though. Newcastle can forget it though

  12. Darren avatar

Also sounds like Cambiasso is in talks with a few clubs but Villa is one of them, be a good signing in my opinion, down to Sherwood and the club to convince him.

We will get another striker as well as Ayew before the transfer period is done in my opinion.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Cambiasso is an old man 35 next month. We’re supposed to building for the future not the past ffs

      1. Darren avatar

True but he is still good, much better than that useless lump Cole. Would be nice to get rid of one of the dad’s army before bringing in cambiasso. But he could definitely prove to be useful

      2. Jimbo avatar

We got a lot of young potential in the squad and an old hand like cambiasso for 1 season with all his experience to pass on, no brainer

Don’t blame him though sounds like he’s happy to be a bench warmer if he goes to Chelsea do we really want a player who’s hearts not in coming here

Didn’t know Okore was injured (again?). What is it with our CH’s? Guess Senderos will be staying then!

    1. Riddog avatar

Yes he is out until October, that’s why he didn’t go away with Denmark. I really feel we need two more on top of Ayew and (hopefully) Cambiasso. We need an out and out goal scorer and ideally a RB or CB. If could afford another on top would love a no. 10. Can anyone see any of this happening though?

      1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
        OohAhPaulMcGrath

        Not a chance I’m afraid

I see Talksh**e are at it again. According to their super sleuth ITK Lorient have turned down Villa’s offer for Ayew but then it was on the Hawksby and Jacobs show(er). Interesting comment elsewhere that should Ayew come then Villa would not pursue their interest in Adebayor. Get your prayer mat out OohAh.

hhmmm some news on Jordan Ayew

express reporting :JORDAN AYEW is to have a medical at Aston Villa tomorrow ahead of a £12million transfer, Ghana international Ayew scored 14 goals for club and country last summer and his arrival would end Villa’s interest in Tottenham forward Emmanuel Adebayor.

sweet i like the sound of that no adebayor . but

talksport reporting Contrary to reports, Warren Haughton reveals Aston Villa’s bid for Ghana international Jordan Ayew has been rejected by Lorient.

The west Midlands club are thought to have bid in the region of £8m, but the Ligue 1 side want around £11m. He also suggests Lorient are unhappy with Villa’s terms of payment, calling them ‘completely unacceptable’.

ie paying over a number of seasons

so one saying deal is on other saying no deal lol

    1. Hitchens 60 avatar
      Hitchens 60

I think, on balance, I believe the ‘bid accepted’ reports as they come from more reliable sources than Gobsh**e and include a direct quote from Ayew’s agent. Since when did Gobsh**e ever have anything positive to say about Villa!

    2. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Yet we were stupid enough to let Liverpool pay over 6 years for benteke. Pathetic

  18. marvin avatar

Oh i’m sure the internet has it’s scouts out waiting for Ayew to come popping out of a plane, train, or automobile…

    1. Hitchens 60 avatar
      Hitchens 60

      ?

      1. marvin avatar

If Ayew is coming I’m sure we’ll hear about it if he is seen in a terminal. A thousand people on twitter will be posting and re-posting and re-re- posting that their friend’s brother’s sister can verify.

In short if he shows up for a medical we have a deal and the rumors are true. Given the amount of press it is hard to believe a bid wasn’t made but I think it is some ways off still. I assume the agent is just trying to push it through and pressure Lorient by going public. Realistically, if the club is serous and not using it for leverage on another potential signing, it probably won’t be until next week until a deal is done – so don’t wait up.

Not challenging the story Ardent but can’t see TS allowing Clark to go to the Baggies can you?

    2. AV this was also doing the rounds a couple of weeks ago with 4 million being the fee. I can’t see it happening with Okore out injured until October apparently but never say never. Personally for 4 million I’d rip their hand off!

      1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
        OohAhPaulMcGrath

I like Clarke but him and baker are too injury prone they always seem to be out injured. Okore us another one and sendross. It’s ridiculous that all our ch are injury prone something is not right with their training and rehabilitation imo

Often wonder about the guys who are on frequent sick-notes; do they really want to play, especially in a team that’s losing more often than it wins?

      1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
        OohAhPaulMcGrath

Problem is there’s no real competition. At a top 4 team if u lose ur place through injury you have to work hard to get bk in with us that’s not the case.

    2. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Agree we are lucky to get half a dozen games with them playing together. Also Richards is injury prone to so no idea how that will pan out

  23. Dave67 avatar

Could sign tomorrow and hopefully more to come.

  24. Andrew avatar

My guess is he’s a replacement for Weimann. Seems we still want another striker bar Ayew so that’s my guess. 13 goals, 7 assists for Lorient is pretty impressive.

    1. Darren avatar

I was just about to write the exact same thing. Ayew is head and shoulders above Weimann in my opinion and his ability to get team mates into the game, set up his team mates, run past players and score goals is a great combination for a second striker.

      1. Andrew avatar

I think Weimann’s vastly underrated overall but that’s for another time.

But I agree, I think signing Ayew means we won’t sign Adebayor. Neither are a striker like Benteke and I think that’s the kind of striker Sherwood wants.

Although think Wilkins is playing down how much we’ll spend to replace Benteke.

        1. Andrew avatar

Using that experience we signed him for to do so to play down how much we actually have.

        2. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
          OohAhPaulMcGrath

I agree also Andrew I liked Weimann always though he could do well over time

  25. I’d love to see destro and Austin come in. We have Kozak who will be like a new signing and he is our target man. Id like to see 1 or 2 wingers and/or 1 or 2 att mids come in. Not Ashley young though. I wouldnt mind Townsend to be honest but not for 15m.
