Will we let Gardner go?, thoughts on the Watford game and congrats Leicester

If the stories are to be believed, not only do Notts Forest want Gary Gardner, but so do Burnley and Brighton.
Burnley are guaranteed promotion to the Premier league as of tonight and Brighton have every chance.
Hence both clubs might seem a better short-term prospect compared to the Villa.

But then, Gardner’s a Villa fan and has been with us through the academy hasn’t he?
So you would immediately think that he won’t be interested in any permanent move away.

Except he’s hardly played for us over the last five years and if you look at his Wiki, his appearance record is pretty poor, mainly because of injuries.
Indeed, his average number of appearances in a season is 17, although I’m not quite sure what that indicates, except that there’s a reasonable disconnect between him and the club now.
So it wouldn’t surprise anyone, if the old loyalty just isn’t there anymore.
And what must he think anyway, as a part outsider, who obviously still has the contacts to know exactly what’s been going on at the club.
Perhaps he might feel he’s better off away from it all?

All I know is that we’re now in a position where we need experienced Championship players.
And surely Gardner is the most experienced we have in the whole squad, who by all accounts has done a very decent job at Forest?

Fortunately, he’s contracted to us until 2018, which means we won’t have to sell him without a nice chunky fee.
And only a short-sighted owner, who wants to claw money back at any cost to the club would let him go.
Hmm.

As for the Watford game, I’ll keep it brief, as most has already been said.
I watched most of the game, where I thought we were poor against a poor Watford side early on.
But we did seem to get better as the game went on.
It was still no surprise though that we conceded 3 goals, all late on in the halves.
Will our defence look any better, even if they were all to stay, in the Championship? I seriously doubt it.
At least Lescott and Richards will be gone, so there’s hope, I suppose.

And I can’t finish without saying well done to Leicester.
I’ve seen a comment that suggests we shouldn’t really care about other clubs and to some extent, I agree.
But the Foxes winning the title means much more than it being about one club.
It’s one in the eye for Sky and the 4, 5 or 6 clubs that are usually involved.
It’s proof that while money usually wins out, it doesn’t always and teamwork and togetherness is just as important.

When you consider that the whole Leicester team cost around £40 million and Van Gaal has spent around £250 million “improving” Man Utd, so I spit in the eye of Sky even more.
And I laugh while I’m doing it.

There is a downside though, because Sky will just play it up as a fairytale type story and use it to their advantage, in hyping up the fact that even a previously relegation-threatened team can win big. Where in reality, money will indeed usually win out.

Still, this is such a big story that it’s world-wide news.
And more power to Leicester.
Every club is entitled to win big once and I’m truly glad for them.
Even if only because it’s a refreshing change from the Sky created status quo.

Gardner and Baker should be first names on the team sheet next year.

Baker is nowhere near fast enough for the Premiership and I do not know how much slower the Championship is. Baker, without the ball was outpaced losing 5 yards in 50, by an Arsenal forward on the ball. That is a serious deficit.

Steer, Gardner, Baker, Robinson have all been playing in the Championship with pretty good reviews (as far as I can tell). It would be madness to let them go over the summer – so we probably will!

Sorry JVillan that is just not true and If I may say so a rather extreme reaction. Steer for instance has played over 30 times for Huddersfield and Gardner is highly rated by Forest fans and the subject (reportedly) of interest from three clubs. Our U21’s (development squad) have an excellent season with a chance of promotion with some promising youngsters that for reasons well documented haven’t had an opportunity to be blooded in the first team.

Just because Lerner has created a desperate situation doesn’t mean the solution is to consider everyone at the club a failure. I acknowledge and accept there are those that should go but it needs objective decision making not emotional reactions.

So steer has played more than 20 games at a bottom 6 side in championship, forest fans where moaning about Gardner a month ago who has only managed 16 games a year, kmac has taken charge of first twice failed miserably, yet they are foundations we should build round
We have struggled for 5 years now with
Guzan Hutton Richardson baker Bennet wastewood bacuna Gabby zog and coaches kmacand Sid Cowan’s
A championship/ league 1/2 sides would have better record in cup matches than 3 wins out thirty six,and another record for villa on Saturday if Newcastle win we will have lost to every side in league process Lerner you (edit by OOHAH)

if 48 hours was impossible, then why would such a timescale be mentioned. its just like the muppet show. i can hear Statler and Waldorf slagging off the whole club and anything that comes out of the club, ever since the damn wank bought the club.

i am going all in now with another ickle rant, off subject the newcastle game. iam already sick of hearing the press and fans of the toon, mouthing this and that. its hardly gonna be a contest, so why build it up to be anything other than a walk over.

surely integrating the kids into the game, will get the villan support behind the team, while the game in play. i don’t care for norwich sunderland or newcastle it doesn’t matter who fall with us. but i will piss myself if we beat um, nothing will make up for the worst season in living memory but beating them and watching their misery might just cheer me up at least for 24 hours

The 48 hours was mentioned where? Twitter? A bunch of wannabe’s who pretend they know things every time something pops up in the news. I have no doubt the club’s still for sale, and there’s talks. But anyone believing 48 hours was a time scale of possibility… Really are incredibly gullible.

Nah, let the kids finish out their season against Blackburn or Arsenal. No need to throw them into the mess at this point in time. I’d love to see Newcastle go down.

gullible is believing lerner knows his as hole from him gob hole no difference as both are full of shit. i didn’t believe the 48 hours as far as i don’t believe their will be any sale in the foreseeable future.

the home fans are sick of seeing the same players failing to act like footballers, bacuna couldn’t cross the road. guzan or bunn couldn’t catch a cold. hell i don’t want to see the kids dragged into the messy reality of this season. but cruel reality is some of these under21 are better equipped to perform than some if not most of the current first team.

for the last home game, blooding a few not all but a few might at least get the fans onside. to be fair i saw the first team try least weekend but like every game this season was found wanting in ability.

plus as you say seeing newcastle go down will be nice. won’t make up for the season they served up. but putting in a performance to shut the gobby barcodes up would go some way in the right direction. they owe this to us and norwich and sunderland. i hope they do put in the shift

I have some faith in Lerner in the area of trying to sell. He no doubt wants out even probably more-so than fans want him out. But I trust in Hollis, definitely. No reason to think he’s lying about being in talks to sell. Season’s not even over yet.

I get the blooding in but I still think they should let the U-21’s finish out their season and try getting them promoted. I don’t think Black cares about the fans at this point.

the timescale for any sale has to be hurried along. otherwise this jeopardizes the future of aston villa further. we have wasted to many transfer windows to miss another one. new manager and players need to be recruited and geld before the start of the next campaign. which we all know starts sooner than the premiership.

when i say youth i am just talking about the traore, grealish and maybe involve green with your playing gestede.with sisohko out suspended when not try kinsella. black needs to try something different. he has got the players trying and giving their best. but unfortunately this wasn’t enough to beat watford, adding some skill to the 1st team is needed as well as effort

I get where you’re coming from on the transfer business, but sales of the clubs can only go so fast. Tends to be at least a 30 day period of going over the accounts and whatnot while also the non-disclosure agreements being in place, much why even the media has to call them American’s, Chinese and British.

Ah, I get ya now. Usually our fans want an entire 11 of youth playing. I simply can’t see Black doing it, he went off the mickey claiming he picks the team, not the fans, so I think he’ll do it out of spite.

Just demonstrates the difficulties involved in keeping fans informed (of any potential deal). If Hollis says nothing there is criticism and if says anything the fans criticise because the outcome takes too long with no further information forthcoming.

Non disclosure agreements mean that neither buyer(s) nor sellers can say anything about the deal. I’m afraid it’s a matter of patience.

Personally, I believe Hollis is a pretty straightforward guy (unlike Lerner) who will tell us what he can as soon as he can.

FWIW, I also believe there is a real chance of a sale going through this time unlike the previous media claims

We should build the team around Gardner, Grealish and Traore imo. Robinson hasn’t really succeeded in the championship by all accounts so id rather see Hepburn-Murphy given a chance next. As for keeper I’d rather go for Sarkic or Seigrist as Guzan is awful and Steer and Bunn havent really set the world a light!

Full on agree Siegrist should get his chance, but will be surprised if he’s at the club next season. Think his time at Villa’s just about over and Steer will start, if not Bunn, though I’d prefer we got rid of Bunn, even if we had to keep Guzan to do so. Plenty of keepers could be available good enough for the Championship. Definitely will be interesting to see who the new manager would want.

Congrats to Leicester and their fans – well deserved too!

In particle physics they talk about every particle having an anti-particle. I’m beginning to think that Villa is Leicester’s anti-team.

Leicester has a team that cost next to nothing, so not unlike Villa in that respect, but they had qualities that the Villa players and management team wouldn’t recognise if they came up and smacked them in the face –

Togetherness, team spirit, a never say die attitude and more than a little skill. Having a manager that knows what he’s doing and an owner that allows him to do it is also something of an advantage.

Villa had none of these. Total shambles and a season best forgotten.

The way I see it rightly or wrongly there’s been a devide in the club, how many times have we used players that could or might have been better coming in ?, the second side has been running on its own from the first team, that to me brings into question if its them and us, all that is down to bad management imo,

Did the widely disparate fortunes of two clubs hinge on an injury, a strategic mistake by Sherwood and the ensuing 16 mad minutes at Leicester at the beginning of the season?

We will never know but history shows that the future is often shaped from the smallest decision.

According to BBC Sport Live –

‘Aston Villa’s Jordan Ayew has been contacted for his observations as the FA investigates an incident at the end of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Watford.

Reports suggest the Ghana international, 24, climbed over advertising boards to confront fans.’

I suppose that he’ll want to sling his hook now. Pity, he was one of the only half-decent players we’ve had in the squad. (Big sigh)

The Birmingham mail are saying a deadline of the end of May has been set for appointing a manager.
In other words after the play offs to see if Pearson or Bruce actually want to join us.
Also when villa were in dialogue before with a potential purchaser they let it be known that they were in a period of exclusivity when one group were given sole access to the books. That deal fell through.
There has been no mention of exclusivity this time round just that Hollis is in ‘Extensive Talks’
I hope not but I think a sale is a very long way off.

      Hitchens 60 May 5, 2016 at 9:45 pm . Reply

Not exclusivity at this stage Steve as I guess Hollis is looking at ‘bids’ from all three who have been given access to company data – exclusivity may well follow for one of the bidders. It is reported all three have signed non disclosure agreements which effectively gags them and Hollis so don’t expect any further info unless (a) exclusivity has been granted, (b) a deal is done or (c) you see a lot of white smoke reflected in a large mirror!
