Villa – Liverpool: Can we win?

As we all know, there are no easy games in the Premier league and this is about as tough as they come, even though we’re at home.
So that’s it then; we’ve lost before we kick off and I might as well stop there.

But at the same time, as I’ve said a few times lately, you just never know in football.
And is it me, or have my recent “you never know” comments coincided with a serious upturn in our form of late?
Ok, I got the wins against Palace and Norwich totally wrong, but I’m sure I added the “you never know” part.
Not that I’m claiming any type of credit for it, but I’ll clutch at any available straws.

Straight onto squad news then and from what I’ve seen, Pool are in pretty good shape, with perhaps the main news being that Sturridge is available. You’d have to think that he will at least get some minutes, although having read around the odd Liverpool fan site, he’s now becoming something of a joke player because he can’t string two consecutive games together.
Couple him with Benteke, who just hasn’t worked for Pool up to now, though and it’s a scary thought. Would anyone bet money against Benteke scoring against us? I wouldn’t.

As for us, we’re better off than last week, in that Hutton’s available.
Don’t laugh too much at that.
Regardless of how poor/ineffective we might think he is, he will be well up there when it comes to the actual effort part of the equation at the end of the season. That’s personal opinion though and I digress, sorry.
The only other news I know is that Sanchez is close, but it’s probably too soon.
Not that I’m sure he should come back in anyway.

Why change a winning side?
Well, I didn’t see the Norwich game, but Garde apparently didn’t like what he saw and said we need to be better.
Which is precisely the sort of comment he should be coming out with just now, in my opinion.
Complacency is the last thing we need.

But what exactly is there to change anyway, especially against a much better side than Norwich?
It’s not like we can swap the strikers about is it?
Kozak’s out and it wouldn’t surprise me if Gestede’s thrown a wobbler and refused to play or something, such is the state of the club.
Even clubs that are massively struggling at the bottom of the Prem usually get some sort of experienced striker in before having to think about kids, is the point.
Garde’s biggest opposition is the BOD, it seems, but again, I digress.

I could argue that we don’t play Westwood, as I don’t rate him at all, but it doesn’t matter. The midfield picks itself, because there’s no depth.

As does the defence, although in fairness, they do seem to be a bit more sturdy, especially now Richards has moved to RB.
And Bunn, whether you think he’s better than Guzan or not, certainly seems so if you look at the form.

Enough of my rattle (which basically sums up a lot of thoughts that I’ve had over the last three weeks, but couldn’t relate on here) though and what do I think?

I struggle to see past Liverpool’s form against us over a long time, when we play them at home.
But they can be very erratic and their defence is as bad as ours, if you can catch them out.
And that’s where Gabby comes into it.
If there was ever a time when he has to justify what so many Villa fans think of him, as one of our own, who will fight to the end, so it has to be now.

Go and get them, mate!
And regardless of what I’ve said in previous months, I really do want him to come good.

Unfortunately I have to go for a 0-2 loss.

But you never know, do you?

Because we’re the villa, Liverpool will find their form today. I’ve witness hundreds of matches over the years like this, teams always find their form against us after a bad run. It’s always against the villa For some reason, a team can be on a 10 match losing streak, beat us 4-0. A striker can be on a goal drought for 6 years d bag a hat trick against us, it’s always the same. Tekkers will bag a couple if he plays, I think we’ll lose 1-4. Too many false dawns over the years. We’re crap, let’s make no bones about it, we’re playing championship football next year.

    Sunderland win!

TBH was hoping that Man Ure might help us out but as I watched the match I found myself cheering Sunderland on.

I used to go down to Sunderland a lot for work some years ago and felt that I had a kinship with the fans there as we both supported giant clubs fallen on hard times.

They showed some spirit and, if they carry on playing like that, they’ll stay up.

As I’ve said before I think we’re gone anyway but if we do stay up I’d like to think we did it because of what we achieved rather than wishing for others to fail.

Whatever hope we win tomorrow and I’m predicting a 1-0 win for the Villa

Honestly do you think we will win? Not on your nellie, if you don’t know your team by now you never will, lads we don’t have them players, I’d love for us to beat that shower but no, Sunderland has shown determination, but that we don’t have. Liverpool will beat us by that odd goal 2-1. Sorry but its true. Can i put the first dislike in.?

Utd were woeful today bloody typical the only time you want them to win and they play crap. Can’t see us beating Liverpool tomorrow think they will win 2.0. Though if Newcastle lose a point is not a disaster as we will decrease gap to 7 points. A draw is best we can hope for though

Nothing to do with determination it’s about quality and we havnt got any. Having said that Sunderland had huge luck with first goal and second that’s the sort of luck we will need for the rest of the season.

Our record against Liverpool at VP ain’t great but a Benteke own goal tomorrow could give us 3 welcome points.

I’m going to share this with and I promise this is the gods honest trust.
I’m not one for believing in gods or miracles but i come to you in confidence we will stay up this season.
Every single Thuraday night before villa play Liverpool and Liverpool only , I have a dream and always dream the result of a win loose and draw. This has happened now for the 4th or 5th time this Thusday except i didn’t dream the result of the game. I dreamt villa where safe on 35 points!
I don’t know why I get these dreams and I have no idea why it’s only before Liverpool but all I can tell you is I believe it.
Like some on here I’ve lost that much interest I didn’t even know we where playing Sunday and it was only because of my dream I checked who we had this weekend and just new it was Liverpool.
    I’m saying 1-1 tomorrow

Interesting to read Tom’s comment about his dream, would 35 points be enough to stop up, probably not, but I think that 17th place had 36 points last year so it may just be enough. 19 points from the last 13 games is possible, but unlikely. UTV.

We need to win tomorrow. Liverpool are a poor side at the moment.

Should pretty much keep the same team, although I would be tempted to play Sinclair or Grealish (if fit) over Bacuna.

Winning tomorrow would give our survival chances a massive boost.

if we was to pull the rabbit out of the hat and get results against the media love toys we still wouldnt get any credit like leicester did.

Of all the difficult games where we need to squeak a result, this is one of the least improbable. But no not Hutton, I haven’t forgotten Sturridge turning him inside out at Anfield. Richards had better step up to the plate at RB and show us he can keep Sturridge quiet.

Can we nick one early? If so I harbour hopes that Klipperty Klopp will screw up his team shape and leave us an opening for a second.

    Chance – slim and FA.

For over 10 years even more we not moved forwards at Villa Park, I never wanted to see us go down again, most on here are to young to have seen what it does to a club.a least t kicked up a stink when we did, today its hide your head and say nothing.

I remember Bill when we where the laughing stock of the old first division. I was there when Chelsea hammered us 6-1 (Tambling got 5 if memory serves) and on MOTD Wolstenholme sold Hately to them!

Followed them in the old third but at least we got respect from the media then and massive crowds whoever we played. We’ll survive whatever happens and we’ll keep supporting the team.

Hope they win today but history says not. Think I’ll hedge my bets with a draw 1-1.
