After last week’s poor show against Newcastle, where I basically spat my dummy out and couldn’t be bothered to write anything, I determined that I’d try to look at today’s game in a more positive light.
I didn’t really need to as it turned out, because straight from the off the Villa were very good to watch.
We took the game to Hull and played with a really high tempo, something that I’ve often said is our best asset.
We were quite simply too sharp and fast for the opponents; so much so, that they looked a bit shell-shocked, in my opinion.
Just when some of us were slating Gabby and Andi Weimann for a lack of goals, so they turned around and proved us wrong.
Gabby took his goal well with a sharp turn and shot, which reminded me of Kenny Dalglish in his heyday and Weimann did well too, after a nice ball in from Richardson.
So two up at half time (it could easily have been three if Westwood’s free kick had been an inch to the right) and we were cruising towards what I thought was going to be a 4 or 5-0 job.
So what on earth happened in the second half?
You might say that Hull massively stepped up their game, but I don’t believe that was the case.
My money says we totally took our foot off the gas and let them back into it.
So much so, that they looked more dangerous than us.
Perhaps it was a case where our lads had just run themselves into the ground, in which case I’ll forgive them.
But I doubt it myself.
I reckon it was down to Lambert wanting to protect the lead; a poor tactic.
Whatever, there were quite a few positives.
The defence looks pretty solid overall.
Cissokho gives me loads more confidence about our left hand side.
And young Grealish just scares the proverbial out of the opposition.
Mr Potato head had obviously done his research and told the players to take him out.
If the kid can stand up to the “treatment”, I see a great future for him.
The biggest positive of all?
That’s 7 points out of 9.
Better than I expected, if I’m honest.
TBH I don’t mind if Cleverley comes. He is probably better than most of our midfield and just gets a bad press because of Man U fans who think he needs to be the next Paul Scholes or he’s useless. It’s not exciting but then neither were Senderos or Richardson, and they have started well enough. It seems a lot of money but maybe not if you look at some of the transfers that have taken place.
but he dosnt want to come to us thou when he signs he will give the usual pr bullshit of how villa were his first choice and keane was a big influence yawn yawn
If he didn’t want to come to us then why is he hiding out for a payoff from Utd and why hasn’t he signed for Everton?
“If he didn’t want to come to us then why is he holding out for a payoff from Utd”
So holding out for a payment form Man U means his keen on coming to VP? Hows that one work out? All it says to me is he’s a mercenary little f**ker.
Maybe he’s holding out for a payoff from Utd because we’ve offered him less wages than others. Which would tell me he wants to come to us otherwise he’d sign for one of the other clubs that are in for him and earn more money.
All footballers are the same BWS. They will sell their souls to the highest bidder. Cleverley hasn’t asked to leave. Utd have changed his boss and his boss doesn’t want him. He has a contract that means he can sit on his bum and get paid at his normal wage. If Villa offer less he is right to demand that they pay the difference and it happens all the time.
I know we want players who want to play for the club, but we have flirted with relegation for three seasons and are up for sale. Add to that we won’t pay high wages and you have enough reasons to say no full stop.
If he comes, he will do his best, and if he does well good for him and us. If he doesn’t come well hey ho. If he comes and is crap that’s all that would bother me.
Everton don’t want him that’s why his agents and utd r just saying that so it looks more attractive to us. Pray we don’t sign him
I love your ITK knowledge. Fair play to you for having such reliable info all the time.
To be honest DSVilla in a sence he maybe the player we want, but not at a demand for pay offs to come to us, it smells as B W S said, Steven Ireland sarga allover again, what’s stopping him not wanting to give us his worth? And sitting on the bench if he is angry, we want a player that accepts our ideas and wanting to be here, it looks wrong to me.
I can’t even begin to compare him with Ireland. Ireland seems like he blames everyone else for his failure to deliver on his talent. I haven’t seen anything in the media that suggests Cleverley is anything like him.
I guess we may find out!
Holding*
To be fair.. a lot of players wait for pay offs.. Cleverely isn’t the only player after Ireland to do so…
If you could get a million into your bank account you would def want to get it..
I would prefer the money spent on someone else but rather have him come in then no one..
I hear what your saying Lionheart but its morally wrong in my eyes, you either want to come and play for a club and earn your money by that, not pay offs, if it goes on then it should be stopped legally.
Bill players are money making machines guaranteed his agent told him what he’s entitled to mate.
I did post earlier that a player may have an argument for compensation when sold against their will dependant on the wording of their contract. Money in football is so obscene anyway and (as PL observed little or no loyalty) so why wouldn’t a player hold out for whatever they are legally entitled to. If he comes to Villa on a ‘lower’ wage then he would be looking to be compensated for loss of earnings following (effectively) a termination of his existing contract. I’m not sure I would compare him with Ireland – he is truly unique 🙂
I’ve just read we’ve made a 4million bid for Jason Puncheon
Smells of desperation if true.
I dare say Giddy, what I’m saying is his heart not with the club, why have him? To sit on his arse if he wants, no its not acceptable by me, not that he would bother.
Bill I agree he’s already stated Everton would be his preference yes smells of ireland.they want rid of him full stop so he’s wanting compensation for it so he’ll get it wherever the destination mate.
EvertonPodCast claims Express believe that Keane has the upperhand on Martinez about convincing Cleverley to us over Everton.
Great thanks roy u should of stayed in the telly u useless twat
Ps also why is keane involved in this he’s not the manager and hopefully never will be
Lambert probably told him to talk to him.
ha ha dont make me laugh probably the other way round
Because out the two Keane is more audible I guess.
Links to Sinclair, Young, Puncheon (reportedly just handed in a transfer request) for wing spot and Spearing and Cleverley to replace KEA. I’d be okay with Young, Puncheon and Cleverley I guess, other 2… No thanks.
L’Equipe claim Andre Ayew’s rejected Hull, and is set to sign for either Villa or QPR.
We need a central creative midfielder.
Where exactly is Puncheon going to play?
I think we will end up signing somebody just for the sake of it, not because its necessary.
Like all of his signings, their won’t be any thought behind it.
On the wing, and hopefully Weimann won’t ever be considered a winger again. Play Weimann as a support striker/striker and he’s so much more affective.
none of those are coming andrew all bullshit rumours. The only player, if any, we will sign is unfortunatel cleverly
According to Sky the Cleverley deal has fallen through.
We have tabled a bid for Real Sociedads Sergio Canales AMF
Playmaker
Thats more like it!
He came on for the final half hour in Sociedad’s 4-2 win over Real Madrid last night!!
SSN breaking from BMH reported it about 10 mins ago
Puncheon scored for Palace v Newcastle, he’s put in a transfer request. Doesn’t matter if he played just last night.
Does that mean our attention has now deflected away from that useless manc twat.
Two different players, so probably not.
I so so so hope you’re right.
Another bullshit bid for a player we’ve no chance of getting. Like Dempsey last yr
Also L Equipe say Andre Ayew app turned down a move to Hull we have been linked with him
Canales bid reported on SSN; Does that mean Cleverley deal is off for now?
GRR being moderated – must remember to swear more 🙂
Stoke City want Sinclair. So hope they sign him.
The problem I hav with cleverly is not just the price, 8 mill is ridiculous for such an average player but he is just a sideways and backwards passer we hav loafs of them and u tink Westwood is just as good as him, what we need is somebody who is gonna look up see a run and make a FORWARD pass!! Last year Benteke made so many good runs and the ball just kept going backwards to be hoofed up again! We need a playmaker which cleverly isn’t and from what I’ve seen of Cole he won’t be the answer either.
That’s where Canales would come in, but we have 3 CM’s, at times we play 3. We need a 4th currently.
I feel that we all going to have a shock, it will not be who we thought it might or could be, its probably be someone from over the water, my nails have been eaten. 🙂
Nice to see you still get exited on deadline day Bill shows your passion for our club UTV
Sign a player god damn it lol
Midland’s Agent claims he’s “heard” 5.75m is the bid for Canales.
This is getting a bit exciting, is Randy going to flex his plastic ????
I am off to the pub to watch SSN !
Andre Ayew’s agent reportedly offering him around Serie A as he prefers a move to Italy. D’aw.
Balague also claims Canales will never leave Sociedad for us. But he’s usually completely wrong.
As apposed to you of course!
I’m getting more and more confident that we will sign no one!
I’ve never claimed to be in the know.
He claims to be in the know, claimed Alonso would stay at Madrid, same day he was a Bayern player.
Also had a “colleague” tell him Falcao joined United on a 4 year deal before he made the loan move first.
I think not on this occasion more chance of knitting fog than him coming to us we are being used as always to get his price up for someone else
Guillem Balague that Spanish bloke of Skysports says ‘No Chance Villa will sign Canales’
Guillem Balague @GuillemBalague 8m
No way whatsover that Canales leaves Real Sociedad to sign for Aston Villa
