New CEO maybe coming in: Surely no imminent sale?

It transpires that Randy Lerner was in the country today and while there were suggestions that maybe he was over here to sanction some much-needed transfer funds, someone in the previous thread called it spot on (ITK Lionheart? or a pure guess?) in that he was indeed here to have talks with a prospective new CEO, in Arsenal’s chief commercial manager, Tom Fox;

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/aston-villa/11044183/Arsenals-Tom-Fox-close-to-being-appointed-Aston-Villa-chief-executive.html”

Now it makes sense that we need a new CEO, but does it make sense that we would look to appoint one when there are suggestions that we’re close to being sold?
I’d suggest not, as if a sale was imminent, surely a prospective owner would want to look to bring his own man in?

Or could it be that Lerner is working with a prospective buyer and the latter wants Fox in?
I doubt it personally.

Which probably means that any dreams we might have had about a big fat transfer pot in this window have er, gone straight out of the window.
Ah well, it was a nice thought while it lasted.

As for Fox being American, I’m not sure if that means anything.

My friend always says you must cut your cloth according to what you can afford…
Fact is were not a mega rich club and we are where we are simple…

I do question some of lamberts tatics but, he can only work with what he has.
With the budget he has I doubt if to many more could do alot better..

Feel free to give us your masterplan on how we will improve with ANY manager working under the same financial constraints! Any sentence without ‘WANKFEST’ will do for a start.
DONT give us your Villa related problems…..give us your Villa related SOLUTIONS.

hardly the solution isn’t Pinocchio at spurs 🙁 top players and managers go 2 teams on the up not teams finishing in bottom 6 and reducing wages over the same period. spurs av spent well over 100 million last season alone.

if we had thrown our hat in the ring, u think he would av chosen over villa over top 4 challenging spuds lmao

Pochetino is a cheque book manager in the same mould as Redknapp. So how on earth would he cope with the financial constraints in place. He also downed tools in the same way as MON and Pulis. We dont need a manager with no backbone. At least Lambert has proven (twice) that he can retain our PL with virtually fuck all to spend. We will be moving 5 or 6 places up the table this season……mark my words!

And from what i read this tom fox fella knows how to strikes deal. Hw comes from the most profitable premier league club. I hope he can make the correct discions to improve us financially.
with gradual higher league positioning you can build a team to compete top 4. With good scouts, youth systems and first team coaches surley anything is possible! Some of you guys are so defeatist. Man city may have been built in a day but Rome was not! Of you want to help the villa then start supporting.

Oohah just say Lambert would of spent the money he has been given on 4 quality players. Say 3 of those players get injured, where would that of left us? Bearing in mind it’s only really now that we gave a 25 man squad as we’ve always been low on numbers.

True but the only 2 quality players vlaar and Benteke have been injured long term and our reserves surely wouldn’t be any worse than the dross lamberk has signed.

Oohah – what you seem unable to grasp is that the managers you keep mentioning would never have come to Villa under the restrictions being placed on the club by RL. When you come up with a realistic suggestion it would be worth debating it!

Don’t really think you can say Vlaar is quality especially when you point out he makes at least one mistake every game, is worse than Zat Knight and is out injured for a third of the season. How have you come to the conclusion he’s quality? Surely not on the basis of the World Cup and Stoke away?

Joe Bennett reported as joining Brighton on a season long loan – sounds like a sensible move as we have cover at left back with Stevens, Baker and Clarke (you can argue about the quality!) Also Ladbrokes reckon that (with our fixture list early season) PL as first EPL manager to get the sack at 7/1 is a good price. That’ll cheer up OohAh lol

7/1 not much chance of it happening odds are quite long. Lambert always seems to do just enough and even if he was sacked so what we will only end up with Roy big bollocks!! Pointkess

    A plan?
    How about;

    1) Ignore the EXTRA £30 mill a year we have coming in from Sky for a second.
2)Forget the £10 mill max spend in this window.
    3)Sack Lambert.
4)Go back to the original money that Lambert has had (£20 odd mill a season, even though we’ve pretty much balanced the books, having massacred the wages).
    5)Get a new manager in.
6)Re-introduce the EXTRA £30 million into the equation, with Lerner sticking say, £8 mill in his arse pocket and the manager gets the other £22 mill.
    7) Buy some decent, experienced players, around/approaching their peak, not has beens.

    Works for me.
Now tell me why not, eh?

It never ceases to amaze me that we’ve balanced the books and this EXTRA money seems to just get constantly ignored.
We ain’t spending it, so it can only be going to one person.

Yes, on the face of it, Lambert might be doing a super job in the face of adversity.
But I’ll bet he isn’t doing it for the love of the club.

    Cynical? Moi?

JD, nearly 30 isn’t out of the way for a defender these days.
I see what you’re saying though, in that he doesn’t look up to a full season.

Either way, he’s going to go for the best overall deal he can get, which is a time/wages balance.
And no doubt we’re not going to offer him the wages 🙁
He’ll be on a free, after all.

Oohah, selling Vlaar isn’t good news in my eyes.

Delph is our best midfielder I would think that’s why people rate him! He is in a pretty shot team with some terrible players around hI’m, linking up with Ben net, Kea, tonev, weimann, gabby, none of them have great movement, vision, or guile, stick inestia in that team and even he would look average! With better players and better movement around him he will become a far better player, last season was his 21st proper full season and he improved massively so if he can improve by even half as much this year with some better players around him then we have some player on our hands!
