I think Lerner is selling too, but I don’t think that quote tells us anything more. The ‘decision’ he refers to is clearly whether Lerner will sell or not. Lerner has said he will address the rumours at the end of the season, clearly implying there is a decision to make. Lambert is saying we should respect it whether he stays or goes – which I just think means Lambert doesn’t know, or at least isn’t willing to reveal, what Lerner is up to. I don’t think it’s any sort of hint at the outcome of that ‘decision’.

His ownership of Villa mirrors the mess he made of things at the Cleveland Browns.

He sold them when he either lost interest or gave up after failing season on season, and as one Cleveland journalist said, ” The biggest constant among those Randy hired was a lack of judgment, bordering at times on a lack of professionalism.” Ring any bells?

Randy ran the Browns from a distance, as he’s done at Villa, always a recipe for failure.

Lerner actually still owns 30% of the team he’ll sell in 2016. So he still is an owner of the Browns.

Will be fines, point deductions and transfer bans for breaking FFP rules depending on severity. I read this somewhere a while back.

As for hidden messages in the press conference, I won’t be reading anything into it until we are told factually what is happening at the end of the season. Sale or no sale, Lambert manager or not…..I’m not bothered one bit until we hear facts

don’t really understand this ST ruse … if a new owner or the existing owner comes or goes will it not still be aston villa playing at villa park? ..
if the risk of watching a poor aston villa team is too much i would say you shouldn’t be bothering with season tickets full stop. such is peoples conditional attendance of games.
no matter who is there, there is a risk we could lose all our games at home or indeed quite a lot of them like this season and you will have no recourse for a refund what soever.

its a no brainer, you want to see Aston villa play nice football and winning games.
thats not even close to being guaranteed. so don’t buy a season ticket.

no conspiracy, no elaborate ruse .. same conditions as any other team.
If you dont want to sign up to watching Aston villa play at home with the risk of them playing rubbish, don’t ever buy a season ticket!

Has Lerner or Lambert or any manager guaranteed results for season ticket holders somewhere? have they gone back on that? because i thought everyone in the premiership tries to win their games but such is sport and human nature some are better equipped or luckier or wealthier to do it and some aren’t ..

So who is kidding themselves with this notion that Lerner/Lambert or anyone can guarantee any kind of season ahead of time?

if you are buying a season ticket based tabloid rumours, PR releases, pundits opninions or manager/owner hopes and targets for a season .. you deserve to be parted with your money… this is sport .. not science.

however i would like to think, you are doing it because you are villa fans and you want to see/support Villa hell or high water ..

Some fans have had enough and even though they are st holders a lot are starting to waiver. Renewing is the only leverage we have on the club to protest against what’s happening. Once st are bought club won’t give a fuck. Hence the reason they sacked mcleish

Tbh if that happened there would be an almighty backlash against the club. Apart from a minority of the Lamberk sheep who remain, pretty much every Villa fan wants the disastrous trio of Lerner, Lamberk and Faulkner out of VP.
I don’t see it happening, I think we’re on the verge of a new era, IMO an agreement is in place pending us staying up and Lamberk knows he hasn’t got a leg to stand on with the new owners given how shit his record is. I think he’s trying to get Lerner to convince the buyer/s to keep him on but providing the new owner has ambition Lamberk will never be seen again in our dugout and for that I will be eternally grateful.

Nice piece although short. Funnily, it’s refreshing to hear Lambert talk like this and it’s genuinely honest.

Unfotunately for all that honesty he’s not a good enough manager for our club and everything from back to front needs changing so the sooner the better.

I welcomed the Lambert appointment and even after the horrible drubbings of last season- after the way we finished the campaign-I personally felt it fair not to jump on the band wagon calling for his head, however, as I said in a post I submitted on this blog after just a couple of months of this season, we’ve gone backwards footballing wise and are more in danger of relegation then we were last year.

Lerner is the overall cause of Aston Villa’s decline over the last 4-5 years no doubt, with poor managerial appointments and so forth but, the football we see on the field falls at Lamberts feet solely. Poor tactictal and transfer decisions have seen us fall miserably into a position where I know that we’ll be beaten by Palace the week before last and Swansea this weekend.

As a through and through Villa fan, I honestly don’t have any major gripes with Lerner and in his defence I think the Lambert appointment was him listening to the fans, the majority of which wanted him (Lambert). He’s released funds for every manager he’s appointed and although not the ever present, media friendly owner everyone wants I feel he’s tried his best with us. Wether or not it’s time for him to go is his decision. I don’t feel he has to go.

imo, all we need is decent manager. Some people say quick fix, but I don’t think so, I think there are a number of managers out there who could have worked with Lamberts constraints and done a much better job.

As for all this takeover talk, I’m not convinced, a lot of posters here touching on the whole thing being PR work to cover up for the absolute dross we see on the field each week, and I’m inclined to agreee with these thoughts.

I’ve just read three different versions of this story, all on the Evening Mail site and written within about an hour.

    But here’s the version that puts all the headline article into some context;

    http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/randy-lerners-message-clear-insists-7029863

Which just leaves me even more confused about what’s actually going on.

The one damming line I read (although I’m not sure it’s in the article I linked too) was that “Lerner had a short conversation with Lambert.”

A short conversation has to be a worry for Lambert either way imo, as it surely means Lambert is about to be sacked or Lerner is selling.

Although I suppose it could have been something as simple as “I need a piss, I’ll catch you later Paulie”.

Whatever, Lerner hasn’t come over for some piddling little reason like wanting to watch a game, has he?

God knows what it is, but something’s definitely afoot and it’ll do doubt prove more interesting than the load of shit we’ve had to witness on the pitch this season.

Spin has been one of the growth industries. “In line with expectations” is classic director speak in response to a question as to how the firm is doing. It could be heading straight for Carey St (bankruptcy court) but if the directors expect that is where it is headed – use the phrase.

I suspect season ticket sales are well below break even. The Villa’s current awful form is the prime reason but not the only one. A world cup summer brings more than the usual musical chairs amongst players and coaches – reason to hold fire until the smoke clears. There is one more factor now – the number of alternative ko times to Sat 3pm. If some of those ko’s means ST holders cannot attend they soon question the value of a ST. Especially so if they expect the home games will rarely sell out and they can buy a seat the day before.

Sky and the other TV rights holders have sold on coverage of all EPL games to companies abroad who deliver content over the internet. As a result if you do not mind commentary occasionally in Russian or Spanish it is possible to watch nearly every Villa game on computer if you have a high speed broadband. this also chips away at the willingness to stump up in advance for a next season so full of uncertainly the only guarantee is Villa will not be challenging for a top six EPL place.

Agree OLL. I can go to my local and watch about 90% of villa home and away games and it’s usually in English. Not that it matters anyway as commentators talk bollox most the time and the action is most important. Why pay the best part of a £100 to watch the pile of shit served up virtually every week where I can buy a couple of coffees (teetotal) and suffer for a few quid. Having said that teams like derby have already sold 17.5k STs for next season. And a lot of prem clubs like Newcastle are always sold out regardless of where they finish. The sky tv broadcasts killed it for me as before sky virtually every home game was 3pm sat or 7.30/7.45 on a wed. I always knew I could make those times. But when it kicks of 5.30!on sat or lunchtime etc who the fuck wants to go them times not me that’s for sure. Sat 5.30 fucks up going out arrangements and sun lunch is the middle of the day so can’t go anywhere not so bad at 4pm. Also who knows what division we will be in lose tomor and we could be in big trouble. Having said that the city away game and spurs game won’t be that difficult as city are out the race and spurs season over to. So plenty of chances to limp to safety. I don’t know one mate that’s renewed so far they are all waiting to see what happens. As far as I know not one will renew under lamberk and Lerner.
