Well, it could have been worse couldn’t it?
It’s a home draw and although that would normally be a good thing, I don’t know how to view it given our home form over the last couple of seasons.
On second thoughts, surely that has to be good.
Then it’s Leicester, who over the years would have been a great draw for us.
But given that they beat us on their patch a couple of weeks back, it makes this a very interesting tie.
Regardless, I’d expect us to win this one and if we do, well, who knows how far we could go?
I can always dream can’t I?
Pointless game, Leicester will put out a reserve team and will easily beat our first team, just like Bournemouth should’ve on Sunday
But they didn’t! 🙂
What are you on about ?
Ignore it Mike.
Brick is close to being banned because he’s been using multiple names for weeks now.
It’s daft really, because he’s quite a well known poster on here, who does have genuine opinions, so I don’t know why he’s doing it.
Btw “Brick”, you still owe me £50, remember? 😉
I agree with some of bricks comments to be fair Leicester will put a shit team out. It’s a up no one really wants to win unless you are mid table and nothing else to go for then u can take the risk.
Another bullshit post aimed to throw a negative at anything Villa. Yawn bloody yawn.
You sod Brick, thought you was a mate.
It would be nice for any non-Sky Six club to win it.
Spot on.
I just did a Yahoo on the FA cup and top listing was a Telegraph article saying that the cup needs a Man U – Liverpool final (I clicked it but couldn’t find the article for some reason).
That thinking boils my piss 🙁
The domestic cups give a chance for the smaller clubs to win something and after this weekend, I love it all the more.
It’s all the high powered marketing shit that has made the entire planet believe that there’s only a dozen clubs in the world that matter.
It’s worked well though
Exactly my point Badger it gives little teams like us a chance says it all really. It’s a trophy that died on its arse since 1992 even championship teams like Bournemouth rest 9 players against us. The league cup is now the Leyland Daf the Fa cup is the new league cup at best.
What rot.
Bournemouth rested players because they have prioritised promotion, which in today’s game is quite understandable.
The cup has only “died on it’s arse” because those at the top don’t understand the real nature of the game and only think about the money.
Even then, try telling Mourinho or Pelligrini they don’t really want to win it.
No, it isn’t what it was, granted, but it’s still the most highly respected, most watched and oldest domestic cup in the world!
How you can demean a cup that is the only possible route to winning something, is beyond me.
And these days I actually think a small club winning the FA cup might actually be a better achievement than any big club winning the champions league in a system that is rigged to keep the top clubs winning.
This stuff about Bournemouth ‘resting’ players would be more relevant if their so-called ‘first’ team hadn’t just lost at Leeds a few days before.
Yes but statistically they would of had a better chance with a full team. I’m not saying they would have won but it would certainly have increased their chances against us
Fair point Badger but when UTD pulled out of it years ago that was the beginning of the end imo. Yes Mourinho would like to win it but not at the expense of CL and prem title. It will be a completely different chelsea defensively when they take in city this week and I Shoukd imagine thru will beat them too. As u know Badger Morinho never loses gracefully, it’s always the refs fault etc, but for first time ever he was magnanimous in defeat. Why? Because he’s got bigger fish to fry and even he won’t be happy he won’t be that bothered either. At 2.2 Chelsea could easily have defended for draw instead they went for it and lost because they didn’t want a replay. I was certain at 2.2 that it wouldn’t be final result.
Bournemouth have consistently rotated players in the cups, and the team that played us was good enough to beat the Baggies, so I don’t think they were disrespecting the competition.
The FL dealt them a real bum hand with Leeds last Wednesday and Watford to come on Friday. The eye-opener is we are used to the Champions League teams having two complete sides good enough for their domestic league – and we believe that Villa and the rest of the PL cannot afford the depth. So it is a surprise to see a team with a 12000 capacity ground can apparently build two good sides – food for thought for our management.
Irritates me also. Does the DT really think that Wembley wouldn’t be filled if Palace played Bradford? It would be louder than anything they have had so far at the new stadium.
Disagree, cup would be even more pointless if a sky big boy didn’t win it.
Exactly a sky 4 team in CL would rather get knocked out than draw. Utd will prob win it as they have another easy draw after Cambridge and they are not in Europe and LVG is desperate for trophy. If we won it which is highly unlikely it would cost us survival and we will end up in the championship with lamberk still on his throne no thanks
It’s true though, would rather watch a Man Utd – Liverpool final than Bradford – Sheffield Utd
I fucking wouldn’t. Fuck ’em.
Good to see the romance of the FA Cup is a live and well with you.
Iv only watched 2 fa cup finals in last 25 yrs villa v chelsea and Liverpool v West Ham which was a good final tbf other than that I can’t even be bothered watching and don’t care who wins
I could say the same about the CL, never watch it, no f##king interest. Give me Bradford turning over Chelsea at the bridge any day over that over hyped pile of shite.
Makes me laugh with the English teams resting their players in the fa cup cause in Europe the teams there don’t they try to win all trophies so it’s a sad excuse in this country the reason Messi and Ronaldo have high goal scoring records is they play most games not like sterling who needs rest all the time the English teams are a joke you play to win all cups not pick and choose
The win against Bournemouth and the delph contract have both helped deflect some attention away from Lambert. First half they were the better side and we are still in big trouble. We still need to make another signing or two desperately.
I agree with Mike that we still need some more signings however Delph feels like a new signing to me because I’d just about written him off. Any player just looking at the money would have waited for the free and filled his pockets so I’m pleasantly surprised.
Always said we needed some creative mid-fielders and I’m really looking forward to seeing Gil and Delph on the field at the same time.
Just want to know is that really a light at the end of the tunnel or just another oncoming train?
The game’s about the glory. We could do with some more silverware. Home tie, draw could have been worse. Hopefully the Bournemouth game will be somewhat of a turning point and much needed confidence boost.
Arsenal will be a tough test, but I’ve been impressed with how the defence has performed this season. You never know, keep them quiet for the first 20 mins, crowd will start to turn on them and sucker punch on the counter attack. Surely Benteke is due a goal!
No chance against arsenal think we will have a good go but will still lose. They have turned a huge corner after city result imo
Leicester hey, bet that put a smile on Lerner’s face, Oohah for Christ sake mate chill out Badgers bang on what’s he saying, yes we did have a bad support for the FA cup in the 90s that was big clubs chasing money not the honors, they divided the league by what they did but its changed again interest coming home, me its put back my interest and I still will support the underdog if Villa are not in it. That’s disgusting only 2 FA games you’ve been to hope Villa gets to Wembley and you cannot get a ticket and your tele breaks down.
Before all this weekends Giant V Minnows games which we a real throwback to past times the best game (enjoyable ) I have seen for ages was Walsall V Preston the other week….a proper game of football with all the elements that the PL does not have. Having refs that dont blow up for nowt helps to keep the game going. All the euro type passing games that we have taken to the extreme recently are just so boring….lets hope when our new saviour takes over and we have as much money as Man City we dont play as crap.
I just want to se us in Europe again! And the FA cup will do that. Being in Europe means were more attractive to potential new players and if you win the Europa League bang Champions League here we come!
Headline B’ham Mail –
GOSSIP: Aston Villa in for Rolando?
F**k me things are looking up.
Is that an holiday place bws
I liked him in grange hill
You’re dyslexic BWS. I’m afraid the gelled tumbler is staying at Real Madrid.
DS I’m a member of The Nation Dyslexic Association or as we like to call it – DNA.
still love that old joke about the dyslexic that believed in Dog!
Or the dyslexic that went to a Toga party dressed as a Goat. Lol
Charly Zog tweeted “Can’t wait to put the new blues(everton)shirt on”which he later deleted but someone saved the tweet before Zog deleted it.Evertons money has come from Etos sale which was completed today to Sampdoria. How much is Nzogbia worth do you think?Seems we will Defo get more in utv
Obviously Everton enjoy struggling,Rolando another defender????
Yeh we’ve been linked with him ive read that today he’s a bit slow Rolando.utv
Everton aren’t getting a fee for Eto’o, they’ll be getting money in the future for his performances at Sampdoria. Although I guess they’ll be saving his wages and signing N’Zogbia on loan.
jaydee i heard this story about everton, but i didn’t believe it cos basically hes pants. but if everton take him i bet we would get another able body in, before the deadline. they say it comes in threes, delphs resigns the new amigo and ??
N’zog out the door, fifty grand a week saved! The world’s most expensive footballer leaves Villa. How so? Earnings divided by match-day touches!
Herds gone aswell frees up two spaces so probably another 2 to come
Mate I wouldn’t bank on it, I’d say 1 on loan & that’s pushing it.
Not if Everton buy Nzogbia it will be a permanent deal
Anyone having a meal with Lambert at belfry ? Where is chef ?
Ah, you mean “Vince”, aka “Brick”, amongst other names?
Being sensible.. a club would be MAD paying a fee for N Zog.. i would happily give hm away FREE just to get him off the wage bill..
Even a loan deal is good for us.. just get him off the wage bill..!
don’t forget martinez had him at wigan and he wasn’t too bad there, maybe he thinks he can get a tune out of him, good luck and riddance i say
Too be fair he can’t be much worse under Martinez than McGeady has.
what have you heard andrew, is there anything in this. sounds promising if hes tweeting shit like this
Just the normal tweets and stuff going around. Seems Everton want him on loan.
Shows how desperate Martinez is getting if he’s interested N’Zog who costs a lot, offers something but produces absolutely f**k all. Perhaps he can get him to perform for the last 6 games of the season so Everton avoid relegation 🙂
We might still be needing that ourselves!!
Unfortunately it only works for Martinez for the most part.
Can’t argue with that DS except when has N’Zog ever performed for us?
He has been pretty awful from day one. I’m sure the injury hasn’t helped but it’s disappointing all the same. I must admit I was reasonably happy when he arrived. Thought he would go a long way to replacing Young/Downing (not both of course!).
Waste of a squad number and wage. Maybe Martinez might get something out of him.
OLL,
“So it is a surprise to see a team with a 12000 capacity ground can apparently build two good sides – food for thought for our management.”
In fairness, I heard recently that Bournemouth have a wealthy Russian board member who has piled the money in, although further research reveals that they pass FFP rules.
A wealthy foreign owner is a Sine Qua Non Badger, but we are supposed to have one, aren’t we? Eddie Howe was asked about a target being offered £30k a week and he laughed saying nobody the have gets half that. Villa have paid ordinary players silly money, when they have stopped earning it.
Sine Qua Non?
Like a pre-requisite, do you mean?
The difference is Bournemouth’s is supposed to be spending, big time.
I don’t know the facts there, tbh.
Talking of ordinary players on silly money, I see Bent scored two tonight, which makes it 3 in 2 games.
Both sound like tap-ins, but my point ihas always been that that’s what he does and you have to get the ball in the box for him
Something PL doesn’t see/just won’t have.
Read into that what you will and of course, it’s a lower league, but regardless, Bent has scored more in 2 than Villa have in how many????
Not arguing there, just something I thought worth mentioning?
If u notice whenever any of our players get a new extended contract they suddenly develop a loss of form or get injured for long periods strange that
So who’s that down too?
It goes back to what I’ve been saying, in that there’s something not quite right at the Villa.
I suspect Lambert can’t get a grip of the squad, which is why Keane was brought in.
But he proved too much of an opposite, imo.
TBH that seems to go back rather further than Lambert.
In many ways Lambert’s ‘man-management’ is similar to MON’s: favourites get picked whether or not their performances deserve it; others get left out in the cold for no apparent reason.
Oh dear it just gets worse. Another 5 year plan Ffs according to fox. Means another 5 years trying to get 5th (whoopee) which teams like saints and West Ham are going for now. This is the end another fuckwit commercial manager http://www.espnfc.co.uk/aston-villa/story/2268789/chief-executive-tom-fox-believes-aston-villa-can-close-the-gap-on-the-premier-leagues-leading-clubs?
I see Darren Bent scored 2 for Derby tonight.
Oh well, who needs him when we’ve just beaten Bournemouth reserves!!!
I’d expect gabbie and weiman to score in the championship too. Forget about Bent he won’t play for villa again. Think the Sinclair deal may not dead yet .
I agree Mike, but the point is you have to put it in the net and it shows Bent still can, if you hand it to him on a plate.
I don’t know about Sinclair, but if Lambert does have something up his sleeve, I’d guess at another one we’ve never heard of, myself.
Blimey bents banged a couple in tonight ffs
Seen sum shite players at villa over the years and Insomnia is right up there.
Well some good news for the Lambert out brigade, he has just been given a vote of confidence by Fox and Lerner. As The Doc said on hearing the chairman declare
“I’m right behind you Tommy” “I’d rather you were in front of me, Chairman, where I can watch what you’re up to.”
I’m in Oohah’s camp about Fox’s latest statement, Far enough forward for the entire playing squad we have today to be gone, because they won’t get there. So how about some ambition, top 6 by 2016, ie next season, then Fox?
Agree what a ridiculous statement to come out with. And we thought faulkner was bad. Lerner can’t get fuvk all right
So Lerner is not a motivated seller we are doomed So lerner is not a motivated seller now Ffs http://www.insidefutbol.com/2015/01/28/randy-lerner-not-motivated-to-sell-aston-villa-at-present-says-ceo/186002/?
