So this week sees us in cup action as we welcome Leyton Orient to Villa Park for the Capital One cup second round.
This is a competition i personally look forward to and feel it is our best chance of winning something which is probably what 15 of the other premier league teams think too!!
There is some good memories to be had when it comes to Villa and the league cup. Who can forget the 2 legged semi-final against Tranmere Rovers and more recent was the breathtaking 6-4 win against Blackburn. There is some bad memories too but i’ll leave them for somebody else to mention.
So our opponents, Leyton Orient. Promoted from league two last season and already they are showing they are a tough nut to crack in league one. They’ve had some decent results including a fine 3-1 win at Oldham. They will come to Villa Park full of confidence having not been beaten since the first day of the season, a 2-1 home defeat to Chesterfield. They beat Plymouth Argyle at Home Park 6-5 on penalties, after drawing 3-3 to progress to round two of the competition
I’m hoping we give some fringe players a run out including Okore, Cole and Bent who can hopefully give Lambert something to think about for the weekend game.
Despite us going out the past two seasons to lower league teams in the cup competitions i feel we have more experience in our team as well as more quality. Providing we go into the game not underestimating our opponents our quality will shine through and i predict a comfortable win.
Prediction.
Darren Bent first goal and Villa to win 4-1 pays 40/1.
not being funny but this year, we could actually do sumat in this cup. aslong as we avoid the mighty dons JOKING (please don’t edit me was ajoke) experience players with a POINT to prove, solid all round team. big players important players to return to the fold.
ofcourse we need some luck along the way. but how a run in this cup, could repay and mend some broken villa hearts. VTID

Ermm sorry mate but I’ll think you’ll find you’re wrong and it wasn’t the now re-branded reformatted second bite at the cherry, make sure the so called bigger teams are still in at the latter stages to appease TV and its advertising CL but the European Cup and was a knock out ‘CUP’ competition.
Can’t agree with you on this one Oohah. Knockout cups are fun, and everybody looks forward to the draw for the next round. The problem recently is too many EPL managers think like you. It is one thing putting out your bench-warmers to start, it is another thing not caring about the result enough to make changes you know will fail.

I was thinking that THIS is the year to fluke a route to the FA Cup Final.. even losing to Sky 4 would mean a Europa league place.. and Europa league winners go into the Champs lge..
Ok it is a pipe dream but maybe with a takeover it is ours and many others only realistic route to play in the Champion Lge IMO..
The only thing I’m interested in is the prem I switch off at any non prem games. Just dosnt appeal to me anymore. I would err rather lose 10.0 tonight if it means we beat hull 1.0. Premier is all that matters. Admitingly the Uefa cup is more of an attraction now the winner gets a CL place. But that was put in to help teams like Liverpool or utd who might miss out on top 4 as it’s a trophy they can realistically win.

That’s the point OOL the top 4 have killed the cup competitions. Utd but out a shite team last night where just having Rooney on would made a difference. Proves my point cup competitions are for little clubs nowadays like small Heath

Last year we had a good start to then looked what happened. Iv never got into cup competitions esp against lower league teams. Since the prem started the fa cup and league are virtually not worth winning. Granted before the prem I always wanted us to do well in cups but even small Heath have won this tin pot trophy which says it all. And no I’m not one of those fans that will go to wembley if we get there. I didn’t even bother v utd game and I could of got ticket. Plus I hate wembley complete rip off. Should of had stadium at NEC.
We are a long long away from a top 4 finish and for us fans that have fuck all to cheer about it would be nice to get a cup run even if its a Micky mouse cup.
Exactly that’s what we’ve become where having a decent cup run is all we can look fwd to. We are as small as small Heath if that’s the case

It’s my opinion bill I just can’t get excited about the league cup. If we were in the final would I want us to win it then yes. But even when we Leeds in 1996 I couldn’t get excited about. I d rather have the old 42 game premier season bk and scrap cup games. And def scrap international qualifiers they are as boring as fuck

Looks a strong side (apart from Baker). I’ll be very surprised if we don’t win. Looks like a well balanced team selection, solidity plus a bit of flair. Quite exciting really! Good luck lads. I, for one, would like to see us win some silverware.
